Pretty cool.

Hope it gets funded.

I always wanted a magsafe like connector for my iPhone and iPad.

Discuss.

Went ahead and pledged for 2 myself. Doesn't seem like it's MFI verified. Hopefully they can get it MFI verified by the time they ship.

I really like the idea of ZNAPS. But I am doubting that it all will work out for various reasons:

1. They say their lawyer thinks it does not violate apple's magsafe patent. Check it yourself if you want: http://tinyurl.com/ou2svcz
Not all descriptions clearly refer to a cable.

2. What about the Apple "MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter"?
That is exactly the same. I don't know if it is covered by the patent above or if their might be another patent.

3. Znaps states they are located in Toronto, Canada.
There is no company registered with that name (znaps / snaps). Even the FB page does not mention the type of entity, nor does their web-page (www.znaps.net).

4. There are no information who registered the web address www.znaps.net as it is hidden behind => godaddy.com => domainsbyproxy.com

5. Is there any information about the founder Phiona Pui Woon Leung or the team?
I could not find any.

6. Design aspects like the pins for power not connecting before the pins for data (like in every USB plug).

7. MFI is never going to happen + impossible within the time frame.

8. Very short videos, no close ups and no video about a data transfer with lightning connector and iTunes (so far).

Now somebody already copied my entire comment on the kickstarter znaps comment page...

Roger Sharp wrote as a comment on the kickstarter campaign:

@ ZNAPS: Very Well Done with the video!
So now we can tick off the doubts:-
a) Phone charges and data syncs : TICK!
b) Phiona is a real person: TICK (@22 xxx Avenue, Toronto)
c) ZNAPS is an incorporated company: TICK

For absolute completion - show how strong or weak the magnetic connection is - 30 seconds would do for that :) We don't expect to dangle the dog with it. (well I don't), and it should part before the phone gets ripped from the owners hands, but it should hang on with the phone vertical and 18" of suspended cable. Can it do that?

Next Project: Aux? if the 3M does not get reached. Please register your website with more transparent credentials. This would inspire more trust.

Where is the information about b) Phiona and more importantly c) the company Znaps?
I ckecked again but could not find any company registered under this name in Canada nor Ontario (Canada).

An interesting comment appeared on kickstarter:

Charles Harris
Hello Everyone,

Myself and my partner have a patent pending on this device. An unpublished provisional patent was filed over a year ago and is now non-Provisional and we recently requested for publication since Znaps has brought a similar/nearly identical product to the publics view. We have been very aggressive trying to work with Znaps but have been unsuccessful up to this point. We have sent them copies of our patents, videos of our original prototype and any proof they have requested. We don't believe they speak English because they don't seem to want to communicate by phone. The issues at hand go much deeper than just the patent as we continue to dig for information. We felt it was necessary to bring this into public/backers view.

And here is a link to the patent according to Chris Harris. The pictures are really familiar. https://www.dropbox.com/s/jlihfn772ayz12q/62027184_AsFiledP1.pdf?dl=0

Now their webpage states shipping in March/April 2016.
I am sorry for everyone who funded that project.

This is the norm for Kickstarter campaigns. It's a shame that so many backers don't understand this. When you fund a project, that's exactly what you're doing - you're not purchasing a product.

I think most of us understand the risks with Kickstarter and support the philosophy behind crowdfunding. That being said, Znaps is looking more like a scam with each passing day and comment from the creators. These multimillion incidents are going to keep hurting the honest campaigns.

To be fair they did send out test units (that were widely panned) and then they did send out email notices quoting all of these negative reviews.
They still might not make it to market but at least they're not pure vaporware and they're not hiding their flaws.
