I was playing with zooming in to take a photo and past 5x zoom there’s a little preview to show what you’re zoomed in on in the whole pic.

I’m surprised by how good the beyond 5x zoom is. Previously going beyond the max optical zoom just resulted in a crop so there was never much benefit to it, but now they’re clearing using the Neural Engine for scene detection and image enhancement. This is particularly noticeable with text when using a stabilized camera (eg tripod.)

cool thing!

btw is that 2x just the digital zoom? if so, can one disable this? thanks

edit: found it already. it is optical zoom, but everything between 2x and 5x is digital.

I do wanna get a tripod for taking night photos of the sky.
