No option to buy the ad free pass
Agreed, I see no way to opt out of ads, I’ll keep playing my ad free old version.

What is it with these dam developers that can’t give us an app to purchase so we don’t have to deal with ads? So tired of this crap!

I had the ad free old version, my ad free purchase transferred over to the new version. Try force closing it then opening it again.

I didn’t see this:

Since I paid for the ad free version, I have no ads...but, what about those that didn’t, or new people? There is no way to go ad free for them! That is total B.S.!

Why do we need a sequel to a board game app? Just update the original.
Updating the original won't bring people back. Releasing a new app means many of the people that download the original but haven't touched it in years will download the new app to check it out.
It seems easier to get people to open an updated app that is already install than to somehow reach them and get them to download a new app. But you're probably right. Or they just want to abandon the paid, no-ad version without upsetting people that paid for it, so they release a second app without the option. I'm kind of glad I just naturally stopped playing Words with Friends. I don't really miss it.
If you look at the requirements, it requires iOS 10, the old version worked with iOS 7 or 8 or something older. They rewrote the app with iOS 10 and newer in mind.

“...Or they just want to abandon the paid, no-ad version without upsetting people that paid for it, so they release a second app without the option....”

This seems to be the case, but, why not take people’s money for no-ads? I think what iMerik said is true...It also is not all that different, a flatter look and different sounds, (don’t like), with more game playing options. It’s not like it’s totally changed.

I too bought an ad-free version many years ago so I don’t see ads but I still think the app is awful, as are most if not all freemium games.

I have not and will not ever pay for expendable in-game currency or bonuses so I wish there was a way to hide anything to do with the in-app purchases.

I agree wholeheartedly with this statement! Let’s give Apple feedback about this...I can’t stand to use Scopely apps, deleted them, you pay to remove ads, but, you still get bombarded, (bombarded every time you access the app, sometimes every turn), with ads for tournaments and in-app purchases, I complained to Scopely, but, they won’t do anything about it.

* Sometimes, with apps with ads, you can’t press the little tiny (X), no matter what you do you open the ad up.

***Let’s tell Apple we want to be able to opt out of notifications for ads for in-app purchases and tournaments with all Apps:

https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodtouch.html

* I only want notifications for my turn, that’s it. *

I also don’t want to be interrupted with a pop-up after taking my turn(s) asking me to start a new game, I have to click “not now” to get rid of it.

* Another app VPN app, also bothers me with extra notifications I don’t want.

We need more control over notifications, let’s tell Apple to force developers to make this happen. We need to be able to minimize notifications.

Works fine for me, are you sure you have the latest update of the app? If so, which iOS device are you using?

Then why do I see new reviews complaining about too many ads?
I think I do. Maybe I'll look again. I use it on my Mini 4 and 2017 iPad Pro.

I deleted WWF apps from all my devices when they finally were open about their privacy policy, and because they never addressed the issues I pointed out in my several 1 star reviews over the past several years or so.

I wish Newtoy never sold it it was a great app originally.

I have friends that are playing the new Scrabble Go, but I will not ever get a Scopely app again, the experience is continual bombardment with ads, buy in app purchases and tournaments etc., all I want is a scrabble app where I can play scrabble with others online, I would pay for an app with no ads or tournament’s or inapp purchases, this no longer exists. The old scrabble app, which was like this, was disabled.

Too many people just don’t care about ads and obnoxious b.s. so their apps can be free.
