As many of you probably are, I too am an iPod collector. It's hard to explain the feeling of getting a new iPod, eventhough you know there's no need for it:rolleyes:

...my iPhone is pretty much the only thing that gets use nowadays, but I still find myself trying to find a way to get the next one :D

Here's a thread to that you can creatively show your precious collection. I for one have my collection displayed as such...

3/21/08 EDIT: Some of you expressed interest in the stands my iPods are displayed on. I have some of these for sale if you see this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/446018/

3/22/08 EDIT: I've added a pic of my collection up to date and removed the previous picture.

I guess it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

Can't really tell if you're being overly sarcastic though...or just really nice!

His is a first generation iPod, and your is a second generation iPod.

This picture (not mine) shows all the (pre-2006) iPod boxes:

iLounge has an great article detailing the history of the first 3 generations of iPods here.

Wow, the boxes have gotten a lot smaller. Guess they include less too.

Very impressive collections! My iPods number only 3 (or 5 if you count the ones I bought for my wife), but as I search for the perfect pocket media player my total collection is now at 15 (I think).

What you need to add is a photo of the headphones and charging cables you got with all those iPods. ;) I'm personally curious to know if any of the early earbuds still work.

Well done, regardless!

OK...just out of curiosity...if I were to somehow locate the original, first-ever iPod with FireWire 400, still sealed in the box, could I connect it to my iMac running OS X 10.5.5 and actually load music on it? I'm not sure about iTunes since that didn't come out until later if I do recall correctly. :apple:

There's no reason why it shouldn't work.

iTunes was first released in early 2001, months before the first iPod; it needs at least iTunes 2.0.

I can confirm that first gens still work properly. I occasionally take mine out and use it for the fun of it. The mechanical scroll wheel is the best. Personally though if you had one still sealed in the box I'd leave it there, those things fetch a serious premium. You'd be better off getting a gently used one eBay. That's where mine came from. I polished it up and put an InvisibleSHIELD on it.
