the 15 inch however does get i7...that's the only thing going for it though, the same slow 5400rpm drive, slower GPU (Radeon HD 6490M), and sadly the lack of standard SSD for OSX boot up....

Where have you read the specs for the 15 inch? I've only found the 13 inch specs...

WTF ? The 6490M seems to be slower than the current GT 330M. Why on earth are they refreshing the MBP after over a year with a slower GPU ? I dont get it.

Aww, was hoping for more GPU speed in the base 15".

Seriously considering a 13" Air now. I like the direction that Apple is going though!

256mb wont hold the texture cache for WoW (or almost any modern games), so these new macbooks will struggle to run WoW on even medium settings, however my early 08 macbook pro, with the 8600m GT 512mb runs with all settings (bar water that i turn down one notch) on highest runs fine.

And Starcraft 2 will probably need lowest texture settings.

love the apple logic on this one, lets save a few pennies and raise our profits by cutting corners, people will still buy it because its pretty, :apple: are becoming more abut brand than quality/performance than ever before, im not a happy mac owner at the moment.

Uh...what are you talking about? The GT 330M at 256 MB of VRAM will perform things like WoW and SC2 just as well as it would with 512 MB of VRAM UNTIL you plug in a 30" Apple Cinema Display, then the VRAM difference will be shown in droves. I also severely doubt your 8600M GT's performance especially since even Blizzard recommends you use that card on lowest settings, if at all.

I wasnt disappointed with the refresh until now. The new GPU in the 15" is slower than the current 330M, its basically on par with a 320M. So you now have Graphics perfomance which is on the same level with the 13" MBA. Ridiculous!

http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6490M.43843.0.html

There they say the performance is slighty better than the HD6370M which is below the 320M:

I was reading the same thing. I can't believe it!

maybe apple brought back the $1599 15inch mbp and decided to add a dedicated, but weak card? Maybe the 1799 model will feature the 6750?

It doesnt make any sense at all, given the 6490M is actually slower than the Intel HD 3000 which is integrated into the CPU. This doesnt add up! Why add a dedicated GPU if its performs worse than the integrated one ?
Also the 13" MBP will now have the exact same performance in games and GPU intensive applications.
