If your iphone 3gs is rattling when you tap the back or set it on a table then it is defective apple is saying, get a new iphone.
it isnt because of the auto focus camera.

im going today

If it makes calls, takes pictures, plays music - it's NOT defective, just noisy. I'd like to know your source of information/who told you Apple is replacing these phones.

i talked to a product specialist, and they said its defective and i could go to the apple store without an appointment and get it replaced or have them ship me a new one..
they said this problems is documented..

You need to start recording these conversations. My local "genius'" favorite phrase is "Its within spec."

Duck tales without a link.

Go to an Apple store without an appointment and get a replacement? You heard those words, verbatim?

^ thats what they told me..

an iphone shouldnt be noisy, a loose button can make noise but thats not the case. my other iphones are rock solid.
if you guys cant replace because of stupid "geniuses" then call apple support and tell them they could not replace it instore. thats what they told me that they may not be aware of the problem yet.
im not making you guys do anything, just a fyi.

Is it the vibrate switch? Does this only happen on vibrate or on vibrate and regular mode?

no this should have nothing to do with the external buttons at all. you can hold all the buttons and set it on a hard surface to see if you have that problem. good luck.

I was going to Apple store today to return a case anyways, so I figure I'll bring it up, however I will do it quietly, with as few people around me.

So help me God, Schneider...

haha lol, well i never had problems at apple stores before so i hope all goes well for you. if you bought your iphone in the last 14 days bring the box and all that with you so you will get a new sealed iphone.

say you have spoken with applecare and they told you to come.

I got mine at launch day, then had it replaced once already for a broken connector.

At this point, I'll just let it be. My Apple store is only 10 miles from my house, so I'll go when its on the front page of MR.

I was always wondering why it is only the iphone's auto focus mechanism that was supposedly causing the rattle. My other phones all had auto focus but none of them made any rattling noise which leaves me to believe that's how the iphone's camera was designed or it is defective...
