again?

So you post one thread last night on how you have noticed an issue with a noise, one that cant be heard unless you're basically holding your phone close and paying attention to now its a defect? Link would help, otherwise this just goes into the long list of complaints that everyone has to have to make themselves happy they payed 600 dollars to get 2 phones. If you get another one and your screens yellow i'm sure we'll be hearing back from you.

I hear a rattle only from my silent switch in the silent position, since the switch seems to stay in either position, I'm not worried about it.

Every iPhone 3GS rattles when you tap on it. Why is that a defect? My freakin' 3G rattles when I shake it... and it's not my silent switch.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about because I have the same issue with my iphone 3gs. There is a slight rattle that you can easily hear from arms distance away when you set the phone down (sounds like its coming from the top right of the phone.)
I've wondered if this was standard since I bought the phone, but because I hadn't read anything about other users having the same issue on here, I hadn't called Apple since other than this issue, my phone works perfectly.

I just called Apple and the very friendly rep immediately said "Oh! that's not good, nor right. Your phone will be replaced." She told me that I could expect a new phone in 3-4 days.

so just for the heck of it, i called apple canada and told them the rattle problem. He said it not something normal can exchange it for me. I didnt want them to put a hold on my credit card for $700+ so ill book an genius appt and see how it goes. Plus i have battery issues and heating so we'll see

and to add to this, i think almost every iphone 3gs has a rattle, cause i checked my sister's and she had it aswell. It doesnt seem like a defect but w/e my battery sucks so ill give it a shot

I'd suggest before anybody runs to the apple store, you see if you still hear the rattle while you're pressing on your silent switch to hold it still. My rattle turned out to be my silent switch, only in the silent position, but it works just fine.

Same here, and I am not taking it back for such a pointless issue.

I cannot believe people are exchanging their iPhones for a rattle that you have to hit in JUST the right place to hear, and it's BARELY audible and only in the QUIETEST of settings. If anyone is talking, even at normal level, you can't hear it.

Oh, and the phone still works perfectly.

I can't believe Apple. You know what, honestly...if I were Apple...oh my God, I don't even want to think about it. Let's just say customer service has it's limits, and 293847239532 phones being swapped for pointless non-defective issues like this would be way past my threshold of customer service. It goes into customer STUPIDITY.

Feel better now?

well i had them send me a new iphone, the guy was a little pushy but he sent me a new iphone. i'll report back.

he tried to tell me its the compass and the vibrator thats making the sound but he still shipped it..

as for the yellow tint he said people where complaining about the white screen on the 3g so they made the 3gs "warmer" lol thats ********, why would i want a yellow screen?!?!
so he said all the 3gs's have yellow screens. you just need to get the right person to talk to. btw it was the second time i called.

Deny it then. Apple seems to have the most insane exchange-happy customers when it comes to slight imperfections. I value my time enough to not look for issues in items I buy and only take time to return stuff when functionality degrades.

Well, to your point, you are correct. To his point, I am not anal about my phone. It has no case, no screen protector. Its just a phone. I knew about the rattle and went "eh, its the AF camera component, no biggy."

After hearing its (supposedly) a defect, I got interested, and now seeing I think Schneider talked to a moron, I dont care anymore.

I just thought its a problem, and I'd like it fixed. However, if its within spec, IDK.

He is wrong: It can be heard no matter how I hold it, nomatter how I shake or tap it. Its a loud noise. If Apple announces its a defect, I'll be first in line for a replacement. If it stays "within spec" I'll go on about life normally.

No offense to you, well, maybe, but...that's a load of crap.

So it bothers you ONLY if Apple announces it isn't within "spec"? If they announce it's a defect, it suddenly hinders your experience? But if they DON'T announce it as a defect, everything's fine? Which is it? Does it bother you or not?

I'm just tired of the main cost of an Iphone rising and rising because of 15,000 unnecessary exchanges. iPhone 3G's rattled and so are the 3G's. Is it a big deal? Mine does it if I shake it in a quiet setting, but the phone still works perfectly...

Correct. Defective means it has a defect, a flaw, a miscalculation, a problem. If that rattling s*** in my phone is normal and wont break my phone later, I dont care. If it is a problem, and may create further issues, I'll get it replaced before that problem can come to fruition.

And when did the phone increase in price?

And is it really that hard to edit your post to refrain from double posting?

It's reasons like this why I've contemplated selling my 24" iMac and iPhone 3GS and saying to hell with Apple and crawling back unwillingly to Microsoft.

Their products are amazing, but their customers are getting dumber by the nanosecond. And it's their insane need to feed into people's paranoia and "demand" to great customer support. There. Is. A. Limit.

No one cares what you do with your purchases. No one at all.

my silent/loud switch rattles when it's on the silent position....that's all, and it did it on my 3G too. Until it falls off or rattles all the time....fine by me

Y'know, you just proved that these INDIVIDUAL Apple reps don't really know anything. Unless it is official Apple policy (which this isn't, BTW) they seem to just make it up as they go, including regarding this so-called rattling "issue".

I think the reason that you've declared victory and believe the rep that you spoke to that offered a replacement for your iPhone, is because they told you what you wanted to hear. You wanted a replacement, you got it.

I don't think that as these reps are going through their troubleshooting screens (while you're talking to them) and ending up on a page telling them that this rattle is a defect and warrants an automatic replacement. I just think that some reps will tell you to get it replaced (because they don't know what else to say), and some will tell you that it's normal (because they don't know what else to say).

I think that until this becomes official Apple policy, this is a non-issue.

My 3GS

Works great, but a yellow tint to your screen? hmm mine seems to be cooler then my old 3G and more so like my old original Iphone. Butttt, no clicks or clacks or strange sounds coming from mine.:)
