I wasn't thinking of upgrading, but the increased battery life of the 13" (I have a unibody MacBook from early 2009), would make me think twice!

Tomorrow will be an interesting day

Agreed. I can't remember a more anticipated release.

I'll be holding out for a quad-core beast, so if these new models aren't offering it up then I'll still be on the waiting buzz.

My current (2009) MBP 13" with OWC Data Doubler/SSD and 8GB RAM does remarkably well. Still, I'd love to have the AG HS screen and extra cores to power through my day.

Might be partly due to the fact that, once these news MBPs are released, along with the current Airs, Apple's roadmap for the next 12 months or so should look much clearer. SSD boot drives becoming standard across the board, increased resolution finding its way to the iMac, etc.

Anyways, it's harder to wait for "Thursday" when it's actually Friday! :p

so THIS is how they got it 300gs lighter...

Talked to my good source, this is what they said...

Macbook Pro:
- This will be the last refresh before the all new design.
- This release will be minor, everyone is looking at the next design, likely to release late 2011.
- Redesign will be more Air-like.
- Redesign's big feature will be a really high screen quality (makes the HD screen talk for the refresh questionable).
- Redesign will be fully SSD, 256 and 512GB options.
- Light Peak (called HSIO in-house for High-Speed Input/Output) possibly not coming out in the refresh...at last check, they will still working on the cables and they're not ready.
- Tinkering with the keyboard and trackpad but not sure what and when changes will occur.
- No idea about Liquidmetal.

iPad2:
- Camera.
- Thinner and lighter, with a flatter back.
- No Retina display, probably the same display as the first gen.
- Possibly a less glossy screen.

iPhone:
- Delayed until September.
- White will be an option.

Yeah I know, and it's another week wait for me for the new MBPs to arrive at my workplace. So soonest I will get one is next week.

Boyz, as a fellow Kiwi, just feelin the hurt from Chch. Hope your whanaus are sweet. Troubled times...

8GB standard = no avenue for Apple to make overpriced RAM upgrades?

Right, there's no "card" just a GPU that's either integrated as part of the CPU/chipset that's soldered to the motherboard, or GPU that's a discrete chip that's also soldered to the motherboard.

Odd to hear, though, that it's "facetious" to point out technical inaccuracies here on MacRumours. I'd think that most posters would appreciate gentle guidance when they make misstatements.

Don't get me wrong, I like to make sure people use correct technical terms too. However, saying point blank that the usage is completely wrong and then not even correct them, how are they supposed to learn their mistake?

Intel Lightpeak to be called "Thunderbolt" by Apple

Macbidouille (French) also reports they've been provided with full specs of new MBP 13'. Stay tuned, I'll keep you informed (I got an obvious language advantage, I'm French ;))

Of course, it will be possible like they offer it now. You just have to pay more.

256 GB SSD is very expensive.

Has no one used Google translate on that french site? I have. The listed the update price for a 256GB SSD on the 13" to 280$. That feels cheap to me.

The "3rd" USB port is the lightpeak port. That's my bet.

+1

This is my first time following an apple release. I'll be buying a MBP day one in all likelihood. It blows my mind that such a major product can be so close to release yet not be officially known about. Is this par for the course?

Same here, except I will wait for reviews, benchmarks and so on.

What's interesting though of the many rumors I've seen, on foreign sites and whatever else, I've read the 12 hour battery on the 13" MBP being the most consistent rumor, from "pictures" and listings, to several other rumors... so I dunno, it could be.

I believe it.
Why would battery technology not have eveolved the last year?

Is there really a dramatic difference between i3 and i5? *n00b alert n00b alert*

Forgive me for my ignorance but I'll be getting an MBP in March/April and all the talk about the i3 not being good enough has got me wondering.

That sounds very wrong to me.
