Hm, I am ready to switch to SL as my everyday OS, but I need virtualization software. But still nobody (Fusion, Parallels, VirtualBox) has 64 bit kernel extensions. :-(

interesting that Windows 7 went RTM (Release to Manufacturing), which I think is the equivalent of Apple's Gold Master, two days ago, yet will be released a month after Snow Leopard (which isn't Gold Master yet). goes to show that doing everything in-house (hardware + software) allows you to get products to market faster. Microsoft has to share Windows 7 with many third parties first...

They also have a mind boggling number of languages to write for and test. Give them credit where credit is due.

Yeah but not all of it is written by them; take Maori support, that was written mainly by the Maori language part of the New Zealand government. You find that not everything in Windows is actually written by Microsoft employees.

The BIGGEST disappointment for me with Snow Leopard is the lack of Blu-ray playback support. I have nearly 200 Blu-ray movies and can't watch a single one on my Macs, even with an external USB Blu-ray player. Yet Windows has been able to play Blu for quite a while, even on Boot Camp on my Macs. I'm willing to pay the extra couple dollars they tack on to the price of the OS for this support.

they added blu-ray support to the new version of final cut pro that was released a couple days ago, maybe something is coming out soon to support that hardware-wise. have faith! ;)

I also experienced much freezing and glitching in the last build, especially with Safari. I am happy to report (after losing a few dozen open windows this morning due to a freeze) that this build has been much more stable for me. No freezing or in safari so far at all.

You know you can open the browser again, go to the History menu option and select "Reopen all windows from last session" to restore them. Gone are the days when a crash meant you lost all your internets, I mean tabs.

Hmm, so does this mean it's possible that my 1st gen 13" Unibody Macbook won't support it? Is there a way to check? I was able to install a 64bit version of Windows 7 in bootcamp if that means anything...

Try typing this in Terminal:

ioreg -p IODeviceTree -w0 -l | grep firmware-abi

On my Mac Mini 2009 I got this:

| | "firmware-abi" = <"EFI64">

Kinda disappointed, I got this:

| | "firmware-abi" = <"EFI32">

Though I'm on a 2007 MacBook. Last version before the keyboard Command key design change.

A question to all of the folks using SL, do videos still play when they're minimized into the dock? It was one of my favorite features in Tiger, and I was kinda disappointed when it was taken out in Leopard, anyone know if it's back?

I never needed this so I had to check ... but yes QT continues to play when minimized. It also does not autostart videos as it did before ( even when you go full screen ).

Not everything in Mac OS X is actually written by Apple employees, either. (iCal at one point was developed by a third-party French corporation, and the bulk of Mac OS X was from NeXTstep, Steve Jobs's post-Apple OS from the early 90s.)

i thinks its a really sweet feature! :)

minimized windows show below the "line" and open windows show above it.
It's a nice evolution of Expose, but it debuted about three builds ago.

NeXT was absorbed by Apple so by the time they were working on OS X, they were practically Apple employees. And I'm pretty sure that the development of OS X under Apple hood was much more extensive than what NeXT did.

I actually know the guy who was in charge of developing the geotag thing for iPhoto, and he had his own company work on it, though he told me that they were "technically" Apple employees during the course of the development. Apparently Apple forces developers to sign these agreements of employment. So basically, everything is developed by their employees. Sorta.

Does the wireless indicator work fine in this seed? I know last seed has this problem where it would say "not connected" while there was a connection. It would happen particularly after returning from sleep.

I haven't experienced that problem since I upgraded to the latest seed, it appears to be fixed. :)

Just thought ill share a list i made in my head. dont know if there 100 % right, so please tell me if there not.

I'd say that iTunes will be the next of the ramp when the update it to using Quicktime X; the Cocoa/64bit thing isn't really my concern - what I'd love to see is iTunes taking advantage of the new and improved modern CODECs that Apple has delivered in Quicktime X.

OMG! I got so excited about this update! Sort of when a "one more thing" happens. I think it's because of shipping charges or DVD material charges. I know, I know that 10 bucks seem expensive but as the guy above, it's Apple. Anyway, it's not THAT expensive. Just my 0.02 cents.

$10 is a drop in the bucket.... come on. If your at working age $10 is nothing.... if your living at home with Mommy then just ask her... because its probably the least amount of money you've borrowed in a long while.

All this debate over $10 is just depressing.

You can now scrub through Quicktime movies by scrolling left or right on the trackpad. Hope this is new. :)
