I have the issue on my phone intermitenly but just lock the screen by hitting the sleep switch on calls. Easy quick workaround until software fix.

Not enough Kins have sold and not been returned for a anyone to say that it wouldn't have these issues.

Leo Laporte likes the Kin. He said he is going to buy one for his daughter starting college because she does not want an iPhone. If Leo likes it and he also likes his Evo, then surely it must be something special :)

I experienced this issue for the first time this evening. I was making a call in low light. Not sure whether that had anything to do with it or not. It only happened when I moved the phone away from my ear slightly. Very annoying. This is my second phone since my first was replaced due to yellow spots. Really beginning to wish I wasn't so impatient for new gadgets & that I'd waited a while.

I'm having the problem too but only intermittently. For the most part it doesn't happen much. Tweak the software please Apple, it's an easy fix. I've muted a couple of people and it's a bit of a pain.

I did that the first day my friend had his phone when I borrowed it to make a call. However after that, it never happened again. It either fixed itself, or after a simple restart it worked fine.

I pre-ordered and received the phone one day before the official launch. If there is no fix, or even an acknowledgment from Apple regarding the proximity issue by this Friday 7/16/10, I will be returning the phone.

Don't hold your breath.

For those with the issue, Apple will roll a tweak into the next up date that will tame your cheek.

How do I know? I sent an email to SJ last night. He didn't reply directly. Sneaky guy, told me it would be all better in a dream I had around 3:15am :)

I've been one of the fortunate ones with my ip4 so far. As a recent apple convert since buying the iPad (which has had more problems than middle eastern politics), I was somewhat expecting a few teething issues. The proximity sensor really got me good the other day however. I'm on the phone with my mother, it puts her on hold and dials one of my buddies... When I flick back to my ma she's still talking (did not even realise she'd be on hold!). Get off the phone and realise it's also renamed one of my buddies contacts to some gibberish. Later on I go to call my girl... No contact entry for her. Needless to say she didn't believe my story of why I didn't call but :D

I've reset all settings tonight... Here's hoping it's smooth sailing from here on out. Here's the real kicker though... If it isn't right, I can't even return it for a refund! As part of the "early upgrade deal" with o2, I had to waive my 14 day return window. And I paid for the privilege. Man I love Europe.

I've done the reset all settings and it didnt help. I still have the issue of random buttons getting hit by my cheek while i'm on a call.

You obviously don't have an iPhone 4, or make many phone calls. Pressing the sleep/wake button ends the call.

Um, no, it doesn't. Pressing the sleep/wake button between the time you initiate the call and the time the call is up and running ends the call. But once the call is active, the button does what it's supposed to.

Wow, smh.

1) dial 611
2) wait for the automated voice to answer
3) press the sleep/wake button located on the TOP of your iPhone 4 and see what happen's.

Simple enough?

REALLY!!!

Why would you even state this when no one who has ever had an iPhone and yours being in that group has ever been able to do that! Its things like this that get people confused.

DON'T STATE THINGS THAT ARE NOT TRUE PEOPLE! How hard is that?

Simple enough?

Yes, simple enough. Either there is a terrible misunderstanding on one of our parts, or our phones are different from each other. Which is it?

Maybe it's because I'm already on 4.0.1? ;)

I hope this is software related. Speaker gets accidentally turned on 80% of the time. WTF?!

I'm on my second phone and they both have done the same thing!

Its gotta be software, according the Apple Genius here in Fresno, CA. (and we both know these nerds really don't much) says he heard through his nerdy apple grapevine that they are aware of this and there is suppose to be a software fix.

Of course this comes from an Apple store employees... so don't hold much weight on that!

I would insult you but I'm trying to become a better person. Ok buddy you have speaker phone activated, which ultimately defeats the purpose of locking and talking with the phone to your ear. Now please make another YouTube video with the speaker phone off.

Have a nice day

Your friend,
Bill

I returned mine the other day- too many muted and hung up calls. I'm not buying until it's fixed, and I might try out the new Androind Samsung next week, while I wait.:D

Nice workaround.
I just tried it and it ended the call :D
Thanks, at least this time I didnt end it because of my face but my finger :D

No Kidding!

Where the hell is this damn fix Apple.... They said they would release a software update for the Antenna Issue (which we all know is BS) but I am hoping an praying this is an easy fix and when we get the 4.0.1 this will all be resolved!
