Darn I'm screwed, I always lay my phone down and touch that spot with my finger when I make a call. No wonder my calls all drop. I better go buy a Droid...thanks OP!

How is this relevant?

everyone's trying to find an excuse to make themselves feel better for buying a defective phone for 200-300.

so what? it's a defense mechanism.
leave them be.

i havent had any problems or dropped calles. your the one wishing its a problem. get a life.

haha i've got one. i'm sure better than yours if ya wanna get into it.

i've got the week 26 batch phone. so far so good, it's doing everything i need it to. except sometimes i've got a problem with the prox sensor. that's it though. i'm satisfied with it. i'm just saying there is a problem and i will acknowledge it, but i won't let it bother me since it works.

but it's got a problem, jobs and co addressed it during the press conference,
they know and we know it's there. dream on.

But seriously... What's the difference if you can get the same attenuation by touching it? I mean really, this is exactly what Apple said. By holding any phone, there are varying levels of attenuation... Then they said they didn't think people would care that the same attenuation can be achieved by touching with a single finger... Jobs litterally said that in the press confrence. Why would you do that other then just to replicate the problem?

Hold it certain ways and drop bars? Yes, we know.
Touch it with one finger and drop the same bars? Who cares?

All you're doing is sensationalizing a non-issue. If you're not happy with it, please return it and stop perpetuating this idea that nobody is happy with it. I'm thrilled with this thing.

What exactly is a " db "?

How many db's must you lose to go from 4 bars to 2 bars?

What equipment did you measure the losses in?

What standard was the RF Spectrum Analyzer calibrated to/with?

What certification level is the RF anechoic chamber you had the UUT's in when testing?

I apologize for the questions, that't the RD design engineer in me coming out! :D

EDIT: I see you joined the forum this month? Is this a new user name created just to cause trouble in the iPhone section? :D :D

I didn't do the test, check the anandtech link from the other poster, also consumer reports and there was another poster on this forum who also did some tests using the iphone's own meter and confirmed what others had posted plus some cool info, like the fact that it wasn't until there was low signal that it would actually lose that much reception. It was a good read, but of course since it was about the reception issue posters started derailing it.

And I joined last month. :p

Exactly, the issue isn't how you achieve the signal loss, but how much is lost when compared to other handsets. In this case it's quite significant, but it's part of the design that apple chose because it also allowed them to make it thinner with a bigger battery and faster processor.

I couldn't so I cancelled by order yesterday. I had the guts to go back to the AT&T Wireless and do it in person.

It's not sensationalizing it to point out how EASY it is to kill the phone signal. Face it - Apple shipped the IP4 with 2 Sev 1 bugs(antenna, prox sensors) and didn't tell the users. I laugh at all those idiots who lined up all night to be the VERY FIRST ones to get this broken device.

The iPhone4 antennae problem is unlike any other phone. Why do I say that? Because you have to actually grip other phones. The ip4 dies with a soft touch.

See this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TclSVCPzEs&feature=player_embedded

All data transmission freezes completely when the line is touched. Now this is because the 24db drop in signal put the phone in the No Service range. If they had perfect signal, this would only slow the data not kill it completely.

Anyone who wants to try to argue, please post a video of any other phone in existence losing signal with a touch.

Why is this important? Because this proves that Apple has a hardware flaw on it's hands. They are trying to lump this in with other phones as "just part of the business", but thats not the case.

P.S. Only the first 1:20 is relevant, the rest explains how invisishield solves the problem.
This is only an issue if you're in a 2 or 3 bar zone. Most places give me 5, so it's a non-issue. If you don't want a signal loss, then simple: just get a free bumper or return the phone. We're frankly getting sick of the posts regarding the antenna 'issue.' You know the fix already, stop whining about it.

Soooo- Who are you? Why are you here? I saw a puppy just outside my house... perhaps you'd like to come over here and kick it in the face while you're out trolling and picking fights.

It IS over sensationalizing to insist that using something incorrectly shouldn't cause it to work improperly. Very few people are talking about "killing" their signal... just dropping bars. You are sensationalizing the issue to incite reactions... I don't know why- but it's petulant and rude.

Go back to youtube.

You tell him! And I doubt he ever ordered an iPhone 4. What a troll.
Mine works perfect. I'm in a strong 3G coverage area and I can't even drop one bar with my finger over it. I'm going to do a video on it real soon.

Uh but I did on Saturday AFTER feeling reassured by the MR that the antenna issue was "not a big deal". Little did I know that the proximity sensor issue existed. Fortunately I came to my senses and cancelled the order the next day. I told the AT&T rep that Apple will have to get it's act together. He sort of nodded with resignation.

Oh please. Forum space? Really? Who cares?

Well maybe one day you will, when you post a question or need help but no one sees your post because it got bumped to the fourth page by 12 threads asking about people's favorite color bumper or posting videos of people fingering their phone.

Yeah! That's right since your phone has no problems that means any one else just lying and never even bought the phone. Those mean android folks, making stuff up to hurt apple.

It's funny how events go in this forum... denial runs heavy in this forum.

-Someone complains about the antenna
*Someone regurgitates crap like an infant saying all phones lose signal when gripped, because Apple says so

-Now someone shows that it's not about gripping, but a design flaw that can be replicated with one finger
*Without any better argument, these infants come back and say "don't hold it that way", because Apple says so

Funny I keep having to use this analogy. If you bought a new car but your passenger door doesn't open, do you ask your date to crawl/squeeze through on the driver side every time or ask the dealership to fix it? If you would rather have your passenger crawl from the driver side every time, more power to you. Otherwise, quit telling people to "avoid the spot". The phone is designed to be used in multiple orientations... you really expect EVERYONE in the world to avoid the spot during their normal usage habits, twisting and turning the phone?

I don't get why people feel the need to explain that I can't possibly be happy with my phone. Is it the huge financial commitment? Get real. I could go out and buy any phone I wanted tomorrow without a moment's thought, and there isn't a product on the market I'd rather have.

Is it that I only use my phone under ideal conditions? Sure, I get five bars at home and four at work so most of the time I have great service - but at lunch today I had three bars when I wasn't touching the phone at all. I tried all kinds of reasonable grips covering the gap, plus simply placing a finger across the gap, and I only got it to drop to two bars. Even with a "death grip" I still had service.

I'm sorry it doesn't work for everyone, but it works just fine for me. Why is anyone trying to convince everybody that the product is fatally flawed when there are so many people perfectly happy with it? I just don't get it.

what a piece of garbage this phone is

rumor has it the next iphone v will come out sooner than a year.

Everybody's just missing everyone else's point here;

All most of us iPhone 4 owners want to do is defend ourselves against this fandroid rhetoric that's being flung at us. I've been approached by strangers who want to pick a fight and tell me why my phone sucks. It doesn't matter to them that I say "It's not bothering me" because that just means I'm Apple fanboy apologist... that my choice in phone makes me an idiot. Im being judged personally... BY MY PHONE?!?!?! This crap needs to stop!

(almost) Nobody's pretending that attenuation isn't going to be a problem for some people. Nobody's pretending that the proximity sensor hasn't been causing problems for some people - hell, my wife's iPhone 4 has the proximity sensor issue and I just can't replicate it on mine.

I've been following these threads a LOT and I'm convinced that MOST of the emotion here is being brought out by a handful (I'm seeing the same names across multiple threads) of a**hole trolls who are going around insisting that we're all lying about the problems we're not having.

The result is that everybody gets all worked up, things get compounded and reactionary. Everybody starts making blunt blanket statements and generalizations and yes, it's really getting ugly.
