Given Apple's inconsistent handling of the free iTunes in past weeks, we can't tell whether or not to expect them today. I'll keep an eye out for them, so check this thread later.

It's actually not a "song". It's more of a commercial for a forthcoming album. But it's free. :)
 
SilentPanda is correct. I was in one of those rotating adds at the top. I actually didn't notice that it was free before I clicked it.
 
Sticky threads are mostly reserved for announcements that everyone needs to be aware of: site rules and forum rules. But your point is well taken since the other recordkeeping thread, the MacRumors Members Photo Directory, was made sticky (by another moderator, before I was one). I guess the distinction is that the Photo Directory is now considered a feature of the site.

I wonder how long Apple's freebies will continue? I posed "The Challenge" as a game for 2004. Will we still be doing this in 2040?
 
Makes sense... we might just need to start a new thread each year... I never really use the thread because I enjoy finding the freebies on my own... plus it lets me look through the new catalog. Which could be bad I suppose... :)

I can only hope I'm still alive in 2040...
 
Latest iTune is free...

The latest weekly tune shows up in the music store as .99 and it went into my shopping cart as .99 but when I browsed the store for awhile and came back to my cart, the tune was listed as free. No "discovery" tune yet...And the weekly tune is now posting as free.
 
I think Apple needs to increase the staff assigned to getting Discovery Downloads posted prompted, and stop letting little distractions like this and this get in the way of their more important business - giving us the free music we are entitled to by right of birth. Simply a matter of fixing your priorities, Apple.

Don't think anyone else has done this yet so I'll give it a go. I haven't found any other free songs other than these - it looks like it is just a weekly song.

To get the list all I did was go through my purchased music in reverse order working out which ones weren't the US & Discovery downloads, and before you say, I haven't bought any recently :) Let me know if there are any mistakes.
 
Apple continues to confuse us (or at least me). There was no Discovery Download yesterday, and today there is one, but you can't get to it. The song is "Something More" by Sugarland, from the album "Twice the Speed of Life", but clicking the link produces the message shown below.

It could be that this song will become available before next Tuesday, or be next week's Discovery Download instead of this week's, or be one of two Discovery Downloads next week. If Apple can't put the comma in the right position in a date ("October, 26 2004") then it's no surprise they get the Discovery Downloads mixed up now and then!

Update, Wednesday evening: The free tune is now available, but clicking on the album link still produces the message "The item you've requested is not currently available in the US store."

Well at least Apple got it working this time. Better late than never - like with that other Discovery Download in the middle of August that never became downloadable. For anyone having trouble finding the Discovery Download (Something More by Sugarland - the link on the first page of this thread doesn't work), click here.

Thanks for the correction, Elan0204. I fixed the front page. The link from last night worked for a while, but doesn't this morning. I wonder how long this link will last? :confused:
 
I'm sorry to hear that, SilentPanda. Maybe I was lucky to have missed one near the beginning, so I got it over with early. It's like getting the first scratch on your new car. :(
 
Yeah, the iMix I'd been using to find the Discovery Downloads seems to be missing the last couple. (It has the Single of the Week's, though.)
