As a favor to the few MacRumors members who would rather listen to music than read my first post over and over, I edited the first post in this thread and put the charts at the top. :)
That was great. Now all you have left is to list them in reverse order so that the newer tracks are at the top of the list.

;)

In place of the discovery download, you can download the Q3 Financial Results Free!

My Question-- Were Q2 Quarterly results available?

That's funny, but it seems like a good place for Apple to easily make this available to investors. Now the question becomes "can you really say you have met the challange of downloading all the free itunes, without downloading this too?" Obviouslly, at 51 minutes and 54 seconds this is going to be a big download to keep around just to say you have all the free downloads.

Still no love

I show that the song from Phoenix is still not free, even though it is promoted on the front page as the "free download." Bummer. I didn't get the Motorcycle song the week before last either.

Oh well. Maybe they'll fix it by the end of the week. :(

The iTunes Music Store UK reportedly now has free tunes too. Does somebody want to post the details and the iTMS URL whenever one is offered?. Does the UK store have Discovery Downloads too?

While I was waiting for Apple to get its links right earlier today, only the artist name was known, not the tune. I put my guess: "Let Me Out" in the first post as a placeholder because that's the only song I knew by that artist. It seems I predicted correctly. I can't tell why they have so much trouble with the links each week. It can't be a simple cacheing problem, can it? Time to hire a new webmaster?

Today the free tune is by an artist who is also new to the store. I haven't noticed whether that has been common in the previous weeks. Have most of these artists already been in the store before their tune was given away?

Today we passed the half-way point in the free iTunes giveaway for the year: number 22 of 43.

Odd, no Discovery download this week?
Not so far, and it's already mid day! I think we should stage a protest march to Apple headquarters, demanding our additional freebie. After all, they've trained us to expect it!

It looks like both free songs are working now, at least they are for me. Last week they did not work until the evening hours (pacific time)

free single song:

Discovery song:

looks like you're right, although it's weird that for me anyway the link works but no song is listed. the album is even listed as "Awakening into Awareness - Discovery Download"

maybe this is Apple's method of keeping us on our toes now that the DD word is out.

It's the end of the day Tuesday, and the Discovery Download has been identified, but still contains no music! Note that it says "Total Songs: 0".

The fact that the link in the above post is pointing to something gives me some hope that the lack of a Discovery Download is just another iTMS error, and will soon be corrected. I like having two free songs each week, I discover lots of new stuff that way.

I have noticed that a lot of iMixes include songs that were freebies. That's good evidence that people are listening to them and like at least some of them.

I really wish Apple would get the discovery download working. It is already Thursday night. If we hadn't discovered what should be the discovery download this would be more tolerable, but knowing what it should be, but having it say zero songs for download is really annoying.

I was out of town from August 15 to today. Can anyone tell me if last week's Discovery Download ever became available (Awakening into Awareness)?

It never became available. Nobody got it for free. Somebody ought to give a bad performance review to the Apple employee in charge of Discovery Downloads.

The Discovery Download ("Homesick") works fine this week. Earlier in the day, though, it was in a confused state. iTMS showed the price as $0.99 but when I clicked ADD SONG it still said
The item you've added to your shopping cart is free for a limited time so download it at your earliest convenience.
In my shopping cart, it showed as $0.99 and I was curious whether I'd be charged if I clicked to download the song. Maybe you can tell by whether it says GET SONG or BUY SONG, but I didn't try it. After all, 99 cents is too huge a risk! So I waited until it claimed to be free before downloading.

By the way, does anybody else think Homesick is really by Simon and Garfunkel and Kicking the Heart Out (last week's free download) is really by the Beatles? Maybe there are some recently discovered old works and there is a grand conspiracy to sneak them into the store under the names of newer artists. ;)

The song "Homesick", last week's Discovery Download, could be found by picking the "Folk" genre on the store's home page. Yet the album the song is on, "Riot On an Empty Street", is shown as "Rock". To see how Apple classified a similar sound, I looked up "The Essential Simon & Garfunkel" to see which it was. It's "Pop" ... sigh.

Note also that Apple spelled "Street" wrong in the album title. In the iTMS, it came out "Riot On an Empty Steet" by mistake.
