I just searched for the word "rock" in ifile and this is what I found. I assume that I can delete the three files that start with "com.rockyourphone" and the one listed as .rockapp.consistencyChecked. Is that all that there is or are there more rock files hidden somewhere?

The "Rockapp consistancy checked is the file on the root I removed also. I didn't recall the name correctly, Sorry !

That's ok - I appreciate the help anyway. You didn't have to remove those other three files I mentioned too?

I continue to judge $19.99 an excessive price for the amount of usage I would get from it -- especially since it is entirely possible to tether by USB and BlueTooth with simple, free hacks -- and I question whether it is truly the price point which would maximize their revenue, but I recognize IntelliBorn's right to charge whatever price they want.

That's my thinking. I'd buy MyWi at $5 in a second. Not for 20. Perhaps if I would use it more than 5 minutes a month, but I just don't need tethering all that often.

I haven't bothered to put a different tethering hack on since updating to 4.0 and haven't really needed to. I'd like the ability to make a wifi hotspot in a pinch, but those pinches are so few, I just can't justify it.

I'd imagine plenty of other people would buy it at a lower price point, whereas many will just forgo it at the higher. Sure, charge what you want. You just won't get as many sales, imo.

Not that it isn't a killer program with really no competition.

Ditto. If I were a heavy user of the feature, it'd be worth $20. For light usage (I racked up a whopping 30 MB of tethering last month, and won't use it again for another four weeks until my next trip), it just isn't worth it at that price. But at $5-$7, I would've bought it without hesitation. Even at $10, I probably would've caved. Instead, I went with iTether and TetherMe at $7 total for the pair.

People will pay a fair price for convenience. But MyWi's gone past the point where it's an impulse buy, and moved into the realm of "do I use it enough to justify it?" It's a pity, because I do think they'll make less money that way, rather than more.

cool. It'll be nice if they can pool their resources together.

come on 4.1 jailbreak!!!!

I need not have feared. Rock isn't even cold in the ground yet and the parishioners of San Cydia are still hating on it. Heck, even St. Saurik couldn't resist getting one last dig in on Cydia. Basically, he did everything right, Rock did everything wrong. I'm sure there will be plenty of futures posts that begin with "Do you remember Rock, that piece of..." or "OMG, this software is as bad as Rock was."

Even though Father Freeman doesn't set the prices, people will still bust on him for 'allowing' the developer to charge $20 for MyWi. Or, since Jesuit Jay has a monopoly, he might increase the percentage he takes off the top and force the developers to raise their prices. Nah, this couldn't happen could it? Comrade Jay is doing all this for the good of the jb community, right, not for any capitalistic, free enterprise reasons? Say it ain't so, Jay. Simply replace Rock with Intelliborn and the same people will continue to rag on 'em, with no string to pull on in site. I'm looking forward to it.

I take it you don’t like Cydia.

I don't care one way or the other about Cydia, I simply used to try and counter the Cydia worship on MR. Now that it's the only game in town, it will be interesting to see if complaints begin appearing.

As with all products, as the price increases, demand decreases. The optimum pricing strategy is to maximize price * demand. I suspect that if they dropped the price to $9.99 they would more than double their sales, resulting in increased revenue. Of course the reason they went with their current pricing model is that they wanted to extract another $9.99 from their current customers; perhaps they judged that they would get enough repeat customers to make up for a decrease in new customers.

i cant upgrade mywi in cydia it shows up as an ugprade. shows as package officially purchased but then when I hit upgrade it says connection refused. anyone else having problems?

good news but...

this sounds like good news , however, cydia is already super slow and takes forever to load, so now with everyone using cydia it will be much slower !

20 dollars puts the mywi app firmly in the committed user and not casual buyer category. It is a great app idea that priced itself way out of any budget I would consider for something I would use only once every blue moon. I miss bluetooth on the iphone4. If I had to pick on one part of the 4th apple phone over everything else it would be bluetooth. It isnt often I get a situation where I want to send a file to someone else, but when you just took a picture and want to share it with someone nearby, the whole email or mms only option really stings. More so when everyone around you can send images to each other via bluetooth and me with my cutting edge kit has to sit and say it cant do it. I would like bluetooth back, but as with mywi, if it were a high priced app I wouldnt bother. Something so useful as bluetooth or wifi hotspot capability would likely sell in high numbers at a low price. Its easy to write off a couple of quid on an app as worthwhile, whereas higher priced stuff needs justification.

High priced apps for my phone only do one thing, they make me more concious of the fact my phone is either limited or flawed (by error or design) and instead of buying into a rectification, I instead look around at what other companies are doing. Apples limitations and lockouts to the hardware constantly serve to help the Androids in catching up, while developers trying to maximise profits on apps can also add to that mentality.

Dont get me wrong, the developers of these apps deserve payment, they did something we cannot do. I don't begrudge them that payment. No doubt a huge amount of people bite the bullet and pay it willingly, but I think there will be a higher number still who just wont bother at all and just complain that apple failed them instead.

I am having the same problem. I also can't seem to download anything from Cydia? is the apt.modmyi.com down? I keep getting POSIX: Connection refused. Anyone else having the similar problem?

I just hope the change the root/mobile user password functionality in Rock finds its way into Cydia. That will help with two things. First, with making sure sshd is locked from the get-go (assuming someone installs OpenSSH), and second, if someone forgets their root password, it can just be changed without issue.

I deleted these files and dirs after I deleted the Rock app:

/.rockapp.consistencyChecked
/private/var/lib/dpkg/info/com.rockyourphone.rockapp.list
/private/var/lib/dpkg/info/com.rockyourphone.rockapp.postrm
/private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.rockyourphone.rockapp.plist
/private/var/root/Library/Caches/Snapshots/com.rockyourphone.rockapp
/usr/lib/librockextension.dylib

Just because I wanted to do it right, I used this command first:

dpkg --purge com.rockyourphone.rockapp

That command got rid of the second and third files and possibly other files or dirs I did not know about.

I manually deleted the rest.

Did you run that command in terminal on your phone? I can't even get terminal to run at all.

I ssh'ed into my iPhone from the terminal app on my Mac. I could have used MobileTerminal or iSSH on my phone directly as well.

Terminal works on your phone? I try to run it and my keyboard pops up for a second and then it goes right back to my springboard?
