Well I transferred MyWi and My3G licenses over to Cydia (new look to Cydia this morning).
Going to try and delete Rock App. Wish me luck.

Edit: Seemed to go fine. Both apps remained affter deleting Rock App and both show in packages in Cydia. Both apps open fine, it required a reboot to use MyWi.
Edit 2: Went thru the file system of iPhone 4. Except for 1 file (which I removed) Rock is completely un-installed.:)

How did you do this. Just upgrade those apps in Cydia? What was the one file that was left over and where was it located?

About damned time. Eliminating the dangerous Rock.app and Rock Extensions, bringing Rock Exclusives to the Cydia store, and bringing Rock's backup feature to Cydia all seem to be positives. If this creates more collaboration and gives Saurik more resources to put into Cydia development, all the better. Frankly, I can't see any negatives to this merger at all.

MikePA:

I don't believe anyone blamed Rock for the exorbitant price of MyWi; we are all aware that developers set the price for their apps, not the distributor -- although in this case it should be pointed out that the two were one and the same. I continue to judge $19.99 an excessive price for the amount of usage I would get from it -- especially since it is entirely possible to tether by USB and BlueTooth with simple, free hacks -- and I question whether it is truly the price point which would maximize their revenue, but I recognize IntelliBorn's right to charge whatever price they want.

Most of us objected to the requirement to install Rock.app because the app was buggy and did not honor APT -- making it a dangerous installer which forced countless people to restore their phones. That you did not experience this represented luck on your part, not disproof of the fact that it was happening. Despite its useful features, it was quite simply a bad app.

I'm here. I'm overjoyed. It'll be entertaining to see what all the Rock haters will do with their venom now.:D I can't wait to see what happens when the blessed St. Saurik still charges $20 for MyWi.:p

Lol:)
I think that price is up to the mywi dev not up to saurik to charge what he wants. But looks like Cydia is improving.

I need not have feared. Rock isn't even cold in the ground yet and the parishioners of San Cydia are still hating on it. Heck, even St. Saurik couldn't resist getting one last dig in on Cydia. Basically, he did everything right, Rock did everything wrong. I'm sure there will be plenty of futures posts that begin with "Do you remember Rock, that piece of..." or "OMG, this software is as bad as Rock was."

Even though Father Freeman doesn't set the prices, people will still bust on him for 'allowing' the developer to charge $20 for MyWi. Or, since Jesuit Jay has a monopoly, he might increase the percentage he takes off the top and force the developers to raise their prices. Nah, this couldn't happen could it? Comrade Jay is doing all this for the good of the jb community, right, not for any capitalistic, free enterprise reasons? Say it ain't so, Jay. Simply replace Rock with Intelliborn and the same people will continue to rag on 'em, with no string to pull on in site. I'm looking forward to it.

Wow, I wondered why it loaded faster.
Where's MikePA.
He's not going to be happy about this:D

Besides also wanting to hear your thoughts on the acquisition....Applejuiced was quoting more specifically on the loading and crappy buggy installation w/ Rock, which you always defended that it didn't cause people to restore and blamed other apps for it:rolleyes:

So how much did Saurik pay you for Rock?:D

This news is pure win. Let's do some math. Cydia = stable, Rock = fast, Cydia + Rock = fast & stable :p

How the heck did you do this? I tried to remove rock app and it wants to remove mywi as well. I guess I could let it do it and then go back and try to download mywi again - maybe it won't install rock back. I still want to remove all rock remnants from my phone though.

Yes, I think you gotta remove everything and install them thru Cydia instead.

That will still leave remnants of Rock though, right? I know I can remove them via SSH (at least I think I can) but I'm not sure where to look. Hopefully someone will post that info here.

As I posted before, update your licenses to Cydia (go to the changes page) Both My3G and MtWi have been updated only for license transfer.

AFTER you transfer the licenses, ensure both apps are showing in Cydia under packages as paid and licensed.

Remove Rock via Cydia.

Open both apps to make sure they work (MyWi required a reboot)

Done !

And to those who didn't carefully read my first couple of posts on this which had 95% of what this post has, I sure hated retyping all this ! :(

The leftover file was a single file on the root drive about license certification or something like that.

my rock apps came up immediately in cydia (an available update). so...cool. 1 less icon for my iphone...

Same for me, just needed to read the changelog history to figure out both were specifically updated so we could transfer the licenses.

Thank you. I read your post (#19) and it wasn't clear what you did at all. All it really said was that you transferred your licenses over but it didn't say how you did it. I checked Cydia for changes several times this morning too and it didn't have any updates for mywi until I checked again just now.

And does the one file you removed from the root have rock in its name?

Yes it does, it was left right on the root drive.

Another good thing is now you can buy an app an have it run on multiple devices instead of having to purchase them for each device like on rock.

This is great news, especially the stuff about implementing the Rock-style backups. The developer of pkgbackup will not be happy with this.

BTW, it’s easy to manually do what pkgbackup does for anyone who cares. You can also save the icon layout like SBOrganizer does via manual means. One day I’ll write a script that does both of these functions.

I just searched for the word "rock" in ifile and this is what I found. I assume that I can delete the three files that start with "com.rockyourphone" and the one listed as .rockapp.consistencyChecked. Is that all that there is or are there more rock files hidden somewhere?
