Dale, I like your new signature stating that you are the "ringleader of the internet." It's cute. You should keep it.

As for the thread, if what you want is recognition or status, then your true intentions are not what they should be. I had hoped that your efforts were aimed at creating a lasting thread that has value to the community, not at aggrandizing your own position within it.

That is just out of line!!!!!!!!

Dale -- you should post the first topic and let's get this going.

I keep slipping back one page. This is a repost of #71.

Let's see if we can finalize this and get something up next week.

How about splitting what has been suggested into seperate posts. One for the Topic and one for the Photos?

For the Topic:

Welcome to the Fortnight Challenge Topic Thread

The purpose of the Fortnight Challenge is to help photographers of all skill levels to improve and evolve their photography. Anyone who is willing to take a photo or offer a comment is welcome to participate.

About the Topic Thread:

• This is a collaborative topic thread to be posted every six weeks. Participants will suggest and discuss topics, and a poll at the end will determine which three are the most popular. Those three will constitute the next topic schedule. Any forum member may post a new topic thread upon seeing that the current schedule of topics is about to run out. The last week of the running Challenge is a good time to do this. That will allow plenty of time for discussion.

• Topics on the schedule will appear in succession as active Challenge threads for two weeks (one fortnight) per topic. Any forum member may post the new fortnightly challenge thread once the current one has expired.

For the Photo thread:

Welcome to the Fortnight Challenge Photo Thread

The purpose of the Challenge is to provide a venue where photographers of all skill levels can work to improve their craft by shooting along a common topic for two weeks - one fortnight. Helpful comments and critiques are key to reaching the intended goal - better photography by all.

About Your Photos

Shoot for the topics listed in the Topic thread. You may shoot for upcoming topics on the schedule, but post photos only to their matching Challenges.

You may post as many photos as you wish for any one Challenge.

About Your Comments

Comments are critical to the success of the Challenge. If you post a photo, add a comment to another one. If you are only viewing, please add your comments, also.

Comments should be meaningful, something that the photographer can use to improve his/her work. Explain why you like or dislike a photo. Spend a moment looking at a photo before commenting on it. Try to answer the question "I like this photo because…" It really helps the photographer.

The current topic is (whatever)

The active Topic Thread is <insert link>

Have fun!

Change the title to Fortnight Photo Challenge?

Change all references to Fortnightly?

Dale

"Rules" look fine - let's get 'er going.

As to the title - to say "Bi-week" challenge would be clumsy compared to "bi-weekly". So I say use "fortnightly" and be done with it.

I'm sorry you feel that way. You should know I wouldn't say anything like that without good reason.

I second the motion that you go ahead and start the thread, Dale. However, I do hope that you'll not connect it with yourself or with anyone else when you do. Let's make it a community thread like the others.

Add this?

There is a Flickr Pool for the Challenge. Feel free to add your contributions if you wish.

Fortnightly Challenge Flickr Pool

If the consensus is no, I'm going to lock it.

P: I'm not clear on what you mean by "connecting" myself to it. Do you mean the Challenge link I had in my sig? The "Cat Herder" thing? It was an inside joke. My name is on the POTD tutorials, but I did create them. The POTD link in my sig is to point people to my tutorials. iGary and Arn created POTD, and they are credited for that every month.

May I ask another idiot question? Is the flickr group a place to post the same images that we would be posting in the challenges, but not other images? I use flickr quite a bit, so I've joined the group and would love to have such a repository - makes it easy to go back and revisit images without scrolling through old threads.

I vote no, I can definitely see it being a good thing for Flickrers, but I'd prefer keeping the challenge and grouping of photos associated with it here.

Here's my version of the highlighted text, I think it's more clear:

This is a topic brainstorm thread posted every three challenges (six weeks) for the Fortnightly Photo Challenge.
All forum members are encouraged to suggested topics for the challenge.
The most popular three will be chosen as the respective topics for the next three consecutive Fortnightly Photo Challenges.

I also think headings should be bolded.

No such thing as an idiot question. All questions lead to better understanding and therefore are good.

You have it right, I think. The Flickr Pool was a place for users of the Challenge who had Flickr accounts to share their Challenge submissions with a larger audience.

TheReef: I will look at how that fits in what we have so far later tonight or tomorrow.

I vote no on the Flickr thing. K.I.S.S., remember.

I also vote that we finalize this thing and get to it! ;)

It just so happens to be Saturday (here anyway) and if we had started on 1 Jan we would be starting a new Fortnightly Challenge today. Let's get a topic thread up and generate three topics and just see how it goes. We can always tweak, and 4 pages of thread is too long here.

As us USAF aircraft maintainers are fond of saying; "Let's kick the tires and light the fires"

We need to get going and see what happens. We can start with this and refine it as needed.

It is posted Here

Thanks Dale.

Thought on the flickr suggestion - it is not a mandatory part of the challenge but rather an optional added forum for keeping a library of all challenge photos - at least, all of those who choose to put them there. Seems like we should give it a try and see who uses it.

Yes. The Flickr Pool was just an option for Flickr members who wanted to share beyond the Challenge in MR. I can only add what I already host on Flickr and the same goes for you. It was users choice.

Which gains people who aren't Flickr members nothing, and seems to tie this site to another for the gain of a few people. For someone who wanted to simplify the language, you're seemingly advocating complicating the posting.

This is a thread for the community- just because YOU host on Flickr doesn't mean the community should sanction it.

Here is the suggested opening post for the photo thread. It is open to suggestions. I'm not sure about the last two lines that are in bold (for editing only). Stating the current topic is obvious, but I'm not sure how to include or link to the schedule which has the upcoming topics. Ideas?
