Well I'm officially not getting it today. Apparently it's on the dock and will ship today. The really funny thing is that when you call them, the recording still says if you order by the 26th you will get it by the 29th. I can understand demand outpacing suply, but Apple should make a point of getting copies out to the people who ordered it first. My order went in within an hour of the anouncement. Apple dropped the ball, again.

Calm down, little guy.

heh, indeed. . . i was all pumped about getting panther last year and was happy when i got my copy. . . until i started running it and then ran into all the problems! im still excited that apple is putting out a new OS, but I actually think im going to wait until 10.4.1 until i get it. that way all the major kinks of the first release are worked out. . . that i have finals next week and dont want to mess with a non-functioning OS while im trying to study and get ready for final exams!!! but be happy for apple and realize that being the FIRST to have it isnt always the best thing. anyway. .. ill still be at the realse party at one of the apple stores near me!!!

You showed so much promise.... :( Has it really de-generated to this?

Listen to her attitude and tell me she wasn't being condescending and asinine about it?

As a new mac user i've put up with a lot of crap from Apple. them not getting my powerbook to fedex on time to make the 2 days shipping that i paid extra for, sure it arrived on the day they said, but it could've been here 2 days earlier so i forgave them for that one. Now Tiger is delayed again for me, something i've been looking forward to since before WWDC last year. All these people with stolen copies have theirs, all these people who preordered have theirs, i preordered on the 12th and haven't recieved mine, yet people who preordered after me will get theirs on time, and people going to apple stores will get theirs before me. As a college student with not a lot of money, i spent about 1/3 of my income last year on apple, who continually can't ship something when they claim they will. I'm pissed off, it's that simple. So now i don't show "promise" in your eyes. ok i'll take that, it is afterall your opinion, now you've heard mine.

Well Im not getting mine today... cause it came yesterday. :D I only ordered two weeks ago. How does Apple determine who gets it first, is it by geographical location?

My order status page says "Processing Order" -- will ship on or before April 29. I called Apple today, and they said that the information they have indicates I should receive it today. What gives?

Like I said, I am attacking the Fed Ex dude today.

No offense, but this is one you're not going to win. While I agree that you are within your rights to be upset about not getting your copy, ranting against another (very well respected) member isn't going to win you points here.

Besides, it could be worse. Amazon (from whom I ordered about a month ago) tells me it will arrive at my house on May 11th  Which will give me just about enough time to cull through all the posts about "Tiger effed this or that" so I can be prepared.

i'm not trying to win points, so... really.. i don't care i guess. I'd have to say she got pissy with me first telling me i shouldn't be upset. so... wait what were you saying? Because you didn't make any sense.

Ordering from a third party i'd understand a delay, especially one with such a big discount as they were giving.

In the mean time i'm heading over to Tiger Direct to pick up my copy of Tiger. Maybe they'll have a copy for me.

She sees one piece of software not being delivered and thinks it's not a big deal. You on the other hand correctly identified the wider principle: that trust (a major thing in business) has been violated.

You are in the right. If seeing trust being violated doesn't make you angry then you are not a very good person. I think BV earns the "concrete bound mentality" certificate of the day.

i'm waiting until school is over to pick it up. Plus all my disk for apps are at home.... so i'll just wait a few weeks

So yeah, I ordered from the education store on the 14th, and today got the "unexpected delay" e-mail. I'm really curious how widespread this is. I really don't need Tiger urgently, but like many other people who have posted I would prefer that Apple stick to its promises about shipping dates. Sure, they have a track record of shipping hardware later than announced, but that's a totally different case: simply duplicating a DVD is a much easier task than waiting on IBM's processors, for example.

thanks, at least someone understands. Maybe i'm a bit more upset than i should be. but no single software release has actually made me this interested in getting under the hood and trying things out. For one i already have a few applications i want to write using CoreData, can't do anything without xcode 2... which requires Tiger.

But as you said, the trust end of this is totally not cool. I have a hard time believing people a second time, i gave apple a second chance to not screw stuff up and they did it again. so like i said, next time i'll just steal the OS and maybe buy it later. I don't spend my hard earned money on something to get screwed repeatedly by a company. Sure they might make great products, but i am really having a hard time trusting them anymore. this time i think did it, i'll go buy the software elsewhere next time. maybe even buy hardware from a 3rd party.

after saying all that, i am looking forward to Tiger simply out of a hobby. That hobby is learning and programming. I don't care about pretty ripples in dashboard or whatever. It's having new ways to solve problems. so yea, i'm excited about finding new ways to do things.

You don't have to get all pissy about it. Sheesh.

I'm not getting it until I get the FCP Studio - I don't want to have to deal with quicktime issues or have to buy a qt pro key on top of everything else.

Because Apple is always so good about making sure they have enough product to ship on release dates

How can this be a surprise to anybody?

DXoverDY - don't get me wrong, I can understand why you're upset; you should've seen me when my iPod delivery went south and I had to wait 3 extra days. Perhaps just be a little calmer about it to others on the board.

I'll frame it and put it on the wall. :)

Maybe I'm just cynical and jaded, and have had enough experience with Apple not to pin my hopes/work schedule/hobbies on a first release operating system being in my hands on a given day.

The Fed Ex guy didn't have anything on the truck for me.

Oh well, I'll have a fresh copy from the store tonight, I'll return the other when it arrives.

It's all good.

And don't mess with my girlfriend. I may be a flamer, but we're in love, OK?

wow, that's bit extreme - I'd think the hassle of returning the FedEx box, paying for extra shipping, driving to Clarendon to wait in line, a long line (I was there for the Jaguar Event), drive home just to have Tiger to install less than a day early wouldn't be worth it.

Have fun :p

I'm definitively will not get Tiger today...

Well, I finally received my Shipment Notification by e-mail (although the Apple Order Status page has been in "shipping-mode" for at least 10 hours). So now I got a reference number that lets me track it with TNT. Unfortunately, TNT has not even registered to pick it up (although the shipment has been registered), they have to work seriously overtime if I were to get it to day (it's now 17:10 (5:10PM) local time), and TNT normally close at 16:00, don't deliver on Saturdays.

Somehow I don't see how I possibly can get it until Monday... :(

From your signature, it looks like you need a couple of copies anyway. Did you get the family pack?

I got an email from apple saying that they wouldn't be able to ship it to me on the original date and that it would ship the 29th. Except that fedex said they shipped it on the 28th, and it is in Raynham MA On FedEx vehicle for delivery, which means i should get it today because that is about 45 minutes from my house

Why does Apple release it on a Friday?

Haven't all the Store Events been on Fridays? I know Jaguar was...

It might be because they figure more people will go to the store late since its not a *school night*.
