my 320m runs stable with shader at 1400, trying 1500 (skyrim) and is there anyway to increase the vram?? since its shared??

i don't think that 1500 shader is going to work...its just too high...(also i have heard that raising that clock to the maximum will burn the gpu)

about the ram you can't increase it in any way besides of the gigabits.raising the memory clock doesn't do anything because the bus speed(1064mhz) its limiting the speed at which the information travels between the ram (which is also 1064mhz) and the gpu. which means that upgrading the the ram in mhz for a new one( like from 1064mhz to 1333mhz)its no impact and also because the motherboard doesn't support more than 1064mhz rams.

about increasing the vram, the only 2 ways you could do it that i know of,would be through BIOS options, and steel, not every pc BIOS have this option available.since macs don't use BIOS but EFI you can't modify the vram like you would in BIOS.

the other way, only works with GTA4(maybe it also works with other games.i haven't tried this yet...) you can increase the vram by making following steps:

1°- create a .txt file inside the main folder where the game is installed.
2º- open that .txt file and write: availablevidmem 3.4 (this will give you 1GB of vram +/-)
3°- save the file with the name: commandline

e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icVMczpm4sU

if you want more or less memory you only have to raise or lower that number (3.4).you will see the increased vram on the graphic options of the game.

i think this little hack works because the game has its own independent system or something like that.

(maybe that's the reason for the game to be so heavy despite its graphics, because e have seen other games with equal good looking graphics and much more lighter. imagine 2 systems running at the same time.(windows and gta4 system)it will be needed, a lot of ram and everything else.
kinda like running the ps2 emulator pcsx2.its 2 independent systems running at the same time and because of that the games seem to be a lot heavier then they should be taking into account the graphics...)

hope this helps=)

lol i tried 1500 FAIL... though 1400 is fine
and stable means little to no crashes... sorry if that was confusing

@jaks i will try to replicate it on other games, ty

edit:lol, i dont think skyrim has a console that powerful

What driver version are you guys using? Just tried with the newest from Nvidia (296.10), and i only get 4324 points 3dmark06.

i think that score isn't about the driver.but that driver also gives me blue screens so i use 285...whql

Really useful thread.

I'm new to OC'ing and I've set the parameters proposed by OP, but I'm concerned about safety. What would be the maximum "safe" core/shader clock frequency w/ the latest nVidia Drivers (296.10 whql)? Any ideas?

Btw, mine is a MBP 13'', 2.44GHz.

the ghz of the cpu doesn't matter. i also think that, the driver version doesn't matter too because it has nothing to do with how much the gpu can handle a OC

by the way,i have tried that driver version and it gave me blue screens while gaming and on youtube.other people have complained of this problems as well.i use 285...wqhl driver version.

as i said,i am running my games with a OC of 630 core / 1400 shader using a program called EVGA PRECISION
(increasing the memory clock doesn't increase performance)
i don't experience the problems that usually appear when the OC its not safe,in other words, when it's exceeding the limits of the gpu.
the problems are:
-visual artifacts like flickering image and/or strange colorful geometric shapes,(consider this as a warning)

-crashing game like sudden image breaks or frozen image and repetitive sound(or not)for some seconds, followed by a black screen and then coming back to normal but with very poor performance like low frames and lag(this happens because the gpu is forced to make a reset to itself lowering the clocks and lock them at a very low frequency as a measure of safety, so the OC doesn't cause damage to the chip)when this happens you may be(or not) arming your graphics card and you will have also to restart your computer so everything comes to normal again.

-other things that may arm your gpu is high temperatures caused by the OC.
i recommend to keep temps under 80ºc (although it can handle 105ºc (not sure) before it starts to throttle or resets itself) while gaming.
you can use a program called "LUBBOS FAN CONTROL" to make the fans spin at their total speed before starting the game, to keep the gpu of getting hot too quick and to keep it of reaching high temps. i use this method with the help of a laptop cooler and i can keep the temps at 70ºc +/-(note: when i set the nvidia's control panel configurations for quality rather than performance, the eat increases for 75ºc or even 80ºc depending on the game and ambience temperature)

-you should also restart the computer after playing like about 4h

try this clock settings.do everything as i say and you should be fine.

if after 2h of gaming,no issue occurs, you may try increase the clock's mhz! increase 5mhz at a time for core and 10 for shader.
(despite of 2 mbp 13 have the same gpu it doesn't mean their chips are 100% equal! i saw a mbp 13 with a gpu just like mine (geforce 320m) reaching 645 mhz on core while mine only reaches 630mhz!)

if these clock stettings are too much for your gpu,try lowering the shader clock 10 mhz at a time to discover where it will be ok.

hope it helps;)

Wow, it sure helped. AWESOME answer. Thank you very much!

I've experienced BSODs with this driver version too, but only when visiting video streaming sites and/or webs with some kind of flash banners. It hasn't happened yet when gaming (I will really only use my Boot Camp partition for that purpose), though I created it yesterday and haven't had time to try it thoroughly. I thought it would be better to keep the last driver version in terms of performance.

I OC'd it yesterday with the nVidia Inspector program, and it bumped my framerate in Skyrim about 5-7fps. I will try to force it a bit more, knowing now what signals to take as an alert. I had Lubbos too, I'll get my old notebook cooler and give it a go. Thank you again. Really useful :D.

you welcome;)after all, thats the way to make this world a better place!by helping each other.

peace.

edit:i changed my nick name from jaks to L41N(LAIN)

i also want to say that you guys can use a program called throttlestop to undervolt your CPU
( i managed to undervolt my core2duo 2.66mhz from 1.1500v - max operating voltage to 1.0625v) to have it running a little bit cooler and you can also increase the multiplier.(i managed to increase it from 10x - multiplier to 10.5x)to have it running a little bit more powerfull.

read the tutorials and information about throttlestop before using it.
