Why would anyone want to buy an iPhone at a store? Everything about that process and experience is miserable at best.

----------

No it isn't. By what bizarre logic?

Its an iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 cost 650 yesterday, and by all logical trend was set to drop to 550. And it did.

Get a clue troll.

----------

Oh yeah you know what you're talking about. You don't a thing about "big screen" sales figures, which are miserable, nor do you know anything about Mainland China sales. Nor do you have any vision when it comes to the importance of China Mobile. Nor do you have the slightest clue about the profits Apple is raking in.

All is well, except in your deluded brain.
And I take it you do? You can live in denial all you like and if you think I'm an Apple hater then you are very, very wrong!!!!

And by the way, by big screens I mean the screen size of the Galaxy S3 and S4 which should be deemed the new standard.

How come we don't hold "selling like hotcakes" in the same disdain as "Safari is snappier" and "Steve wouldn't have allowed this"?

It's a stupid idiomatic expression and is the default phrase for ANY product Apple announces. Sales records are always broken. Is that a result of the product, or better supply chain management, more simultaneous market launches and more widespread carrier adoption? Use your brain.

I don't know if you're an Apple hater or not. You're a nobody as far as I'm concerned.

But even nobody's can know what they're talking about. You don't. At all.

Why do we care what "Steve would have done/not done" in such high regard?

This is a man who opted not to have treatment at a stage of pancreatic that would have more than likely saved his life, right?

Just keep that in the back of your mind when you think Steve had all the right answers.

VZ is selling the 5 (not 5C or 5S) for $99.

Unless I am missing something, if you are upgrading from a 4 or 4S, the 5 makes more sense than a 5C (same price, capacity, screen size, performance, but less fruity and toy-like).

I am not sure if apple thought the 5C completely through here...

5 is being discontinued. What is left is old stock.

Once the color arrives most of the 5 stock will be depleted.

How is any of that related to people deciding they like a product and will buy it? And that is what keeps happening with Apple's rollouts. Yeah, they miss once in awhile, sure. Think back to the original iPod rollout. You could just tell that Apple was onto something huge. And yet, as with the iPad, and the iPad mini, there was all this pooh-poohing in the media and on the Street. It sells papers, and it galvanizes the markets. That's all it does. It does not deter people from lining up to buy the thing if they want it. Hundreds of millions of devices have rung up on the cash registers since the iPod (or the ibook even, what the heck) and still we have the death knell every time Apple does a launch. No wonder a lot of the regular MacRumors members just stay away from the forums during launch periods! This recycling of the shadow of death gets pretty old. ;)

You're comparing the iPod which was a game changer and the iPad which was a game changer and a new product segment to an iterative release of an existing iPhone. Totally different scenarios.

You'll always find someone on the Street willing to poo poo anything. Sometimes they're wrong, sometimes they're right. Sure, Apple's roll-outs are hugely successful, in the United States.

The problem is that there's not much additional market share to get here and nobody in the UK, China, or Europe are going to shell out 800 dollars for last year's phone in a plastic case.

Margins are down. A year ago Apple had the bulk of the smartphone profits worldwide, now it's more like 50/50 with Samsung capturing the rest.

Someone posted a link yesterday to the thread about the first iPod Keynote. It was complaint after complaint, and a lot about it's pricing. Not to mention a lot of "Another MP3 player? How about some innovation like the old days Apple!?!"

I guess the more things change the more they stay the same.

Haha, check out the thread when the unibody MacBook Pros were announced. People complaining about the price, the glossy screen, innards, black chicklet keyboard, etc. As I've said before I can't remember the last time Apple announced a new product that people here didn't complain about. :D

In fact the more trolls complain, the more successful the product becomes.

I'll be selling my iPhone 5 (that I paid $125 for in December) for $330 and getting a 5c for $100. I get paid $230 to get the same phone, but plastic. Someone tell me how this bad

How is even remotely possible, in your mind, that this isn't the biggest iPhone of all time?

There is not a single possibility that this comes in as anything less than through the roof, record setting, out of inventory everywhere launch. No amount of forum trolling will affect it, I assure you.

I am not a troll....just an Apple fanatic who is devastated at the direction the company is taking since Steve Jobs died. If you read my post properly I never said it would not be a success, I said that it would not be a huge success in China and that Apple is losing ground there, not gaining it which is supposed to be a key part of their strategy!!! People were expecting this release to turn around Apple's fortunes in China but all the signs are pointing to that not being the case. Open your eyes, take off your Apple tinted glasses and read again!!!

To be fair, the glossy screen does suck. There were times when I was trying to work outside and all I could see is my reflection, even with the backlight set to maximum. It drained the battery down in an hour.

I think you all underestimate the market that will buy these iPhones. In a years time they will be seen all over High Schools, College Campuses, and along the sidelines of little league games. I will bet money that not only will the 5C sell like hotcakes, but they will outsell the 5S. You can archive this post and hold me to it.

Sorry dude I think you're wrong. If you take a look in the iPhone section..there isn't 1 thread of having an interest in the 5C. Even in the iPhone UK thread there's no interest in the 5C.

Wow… Who said that the 5C would be priced for emerging markets, already? We were way below the mark, most estimated the price would max around $400 to allow such a phone to be bought on those less-rich markets. But no.

The iPhone 5S is still over $800, a.t, while the upper model is more than $1K. With that much money you can buy more functions and keep decent portability in the form of an iPad, or even a MacBook Air that has more memory and storage.
The iPhone 5C goes past $650 after taxes.
The iPhone 4S is still over $500.

Just attached screen captures are some will not trust this.

Oh, they will probably sell like hotcakes, but on my end, I still can't find a compelling reason to spend so much on a soon-to-be outdated phone, even less increasing my monthly fee from a $40 full-featured smartphone plan by more than 60% and remain tied for three years.

Maybe profits are the goal. Not market share. The Mac and its OS was never going to outpace Windows, and iPhone with iOS probably can't compete with Android and its 1000 different models of phones. Maybe they are not out to be the biggest, just the best. The best at making money.

I wish Apple would get the models in the store the week before so you can figure out which one you want to pre-order.

Indeed it appears to be the case.

And you have a better understanding of the desires of the consumer market and sustainable pricing levels in China than Apple, who has been entrenched there for several years? Apple's greatest strength is market research and they very rarely miss the mark.

When they misss it's usually big time.
