I've read all the success stories of people buying unlocked phones (either the AT&T ones and the T-Mobile Contract Free ones).

Just ONE QUICK QUESTION please: I won't buy the 5S from any Apple store but from the store at apple.com. If I buy the T-Mobile Contract Free at apple.com and bring it back to my country without using it in the US, would it just be a matter of replacing the T-Mobile sim with the nano sim I use in my country at then I'm done?

Thanks!

Goodmorning to everyone!

At March I bought the iPhone 5 Verizon model from the Apple Store of Montgomery Mall at Bethesda. I have read all the 30 pages(!!!!) of this topic and I am confident that the T-Mobile will do the same for me. One quick question. Recently I replaced my iPhone 5 Verizon with another one at an APPLE Store at Birmingham UK. They gave me the same(iPhone 5 Verizon) but the status at their machine said LOCKED. The weird thing is when I popped in my local gsm card to activate it, it asked me to which carrier the phone will be locked I chose Verizon Wireless and that's it. I'm using it with one card from UK and one from Greece and it is like it is unlocked! Anyone knows something about it? Should I call Verizon and request a full unlock?
P.S (Mods if this is not the correct topic please move it elsewhere)

All Verizon iPhone 5 and 5s are GSM SIM unlocked. You should be able to swap SIM cards even if purchased on a contract.

Unlock AT&T iphone 5s

Hi guys,

I need to unlock my new iphone 5s (carrier locked version). What can I do?

Also, if somehow it is not possible, what are my options?

Thanks for the help.

Cheers!

Right now the IMEI unlocking sites are having problems unlocking iPhones. I suggest you sell it and buy an unlocked one.

Thank you for your reply. I am able to swap GSM sim cards without a problem! But my iPhone status is locked according to the apple store info and various online imei checkers... Can anyone with an iPhone 5 CDMA Verizon model confirm the unlocking status with http://iphoneimei.info/?

This guy obviously has no idea of what he is talking about. I am here at the Apple store in Victoria Garden. The sales person clearly said the T-Mobile contract free version is UNLOCKED.

well that person is dumb cuz i just bought a 32 gig gold 5s and what do you know not unlocked

If your T-Mobile iPhone 5s is not unlocked then you didn't buy it from Apple online or the Apple retail store. All T-Mobile sold by Apple are unlocked.

Your post has been reported.

5s being here in Perú, destination: Miami.
And I saw this:
$749 +
$52 taxes :S
= $801

Plus the currency exchange, it would be very expensive.

I think I'll send the $749 to my cousin there.

The $749 on the web page. Includes the taxes?

Thank you bro :)[/QUOTE]

Hi everyone,

I know this has been mentioned here numerous times, however no one seems to give a clear response. If I order the T-Mobile iPhone 5s from the Apple Online Store for full retail, then take it to Europe and to the following steps, respectively:
1) Open the box and take out the iPhone
2) Pop out the SIM tray
3) Throw the T-Mobile nanoSIM in the trash (or anywhere suitable)
4) Put in a nanoSIM of a local provider (Orange in my case)
5) Turn on the iPhone

Will it work? Is it completely and definitely true that I do NOT have to activate it with T-Mobile in the U.S. beforehand? Has anyone had experience with this yet?

Thank you so much for clear answers!

Okay. Enough already. I am an international airline captain. I have a Tmobile 64g 5s.....purchased from Apple online. I've had a TM account for over 10 years starting when they used to be Voicestream. I activated the new phone at my local TM store. Flew to Hong Kong next day. Installed my 3 Hong Kong nano sim. Worked fine. Since then I have flown to Australia and used my 3 Australia nano sim. Italy Tim nano sim. Germany Orange nano sim. Netherlands Orange nano sim. Great Britian 3 nano sim. All worked fine. The phone was unlocked out of the box and worked perfectly for talk, text, data and hotspot. Good news, right? Here's better news. As of November 1, T-mobile USA introduced global access. They have a deal with 100 countries for $.20 per minute incoming and outgoing roaming talk time and UNLIMITED roaming data and text. With this new deal I no longer have to recharge foreign sims. In fact I've tossed them. My TM phone is now usable in 100 countries plus the US for $60 a month. I have unlimited data and text/picture plus $.20 per minute from any country outside the US talk time.

My iphone order shows preparing for shipment, but it doesn't say tmobile any more.

Just in case there are continued doubters...I just got back from South Africa where I used both of the iPhone 5S's I purchased "device only" from Apple with Vodacom South Africa SIM cards. One of these was a T-mobile iPhone and the other was an AT&T model. Both are used in the US with T-mobile on thier $30 prepaid plan. Absolutely no issues with using the local SIM cards.

How is the data speed when roaming globally? Is it Edge speed or better?
