just got off the phone with apple and i'm more frustrated now than before. they can't fix it. insist i go to a verizon store as its the sim sim sim.....

oh, and i was told by Daren at Apple that we are a small number of customers out of the billions they have and that overall its been a very successful day.

its starting to be NOT so nice to look at anymore....

I'm sorry for your luck. Seriously, the two guys I spoke to today were more helpful to me than anyone at Apple or VZW ever have been. They kept calling me back until my problem was solved.

I would keep calling back. It's the only way.

Just got off the phone with an AppleCare senior advisor who had seen the issue already today. He said this issue requires a "high priority activation escalation" be submitted to engineering by a senior advisor, and that they are treating the issue with the highest urgency. He will then call and have me do a restore once that goes through.

I'm guessing someone is manually changing a bunch of values in a database somewhere and we just need to get our signals through to be prioritized.

EDIT: 30 minutes later I did a restore and the phone is activated and working. Yay!

Perhaps you wouldn't mind emailing your apple contact and asking them to document what the fix was? Then, post here what the fix is so we can direct these 'tards at VZW and Apple what needs to be done to correct the issues we're having.

Thanks Jumpie -

That's it! That's what he told me! He had to complete an "RTA" to get it done urgently. Well, 1.5 hours later he said fixed! Restore and resync.

There ya have it, folks!

I was told by Apple this update really wasn't an update per se but more of a glitch on how 7.0 was listed in iTunes for new phones.

But, who knows.

Well, instead of complaining on Twitter, call Apple's free support for your shiny new phone and tell them what the problem is. If they can't help or don't know, seriously, tell them to call the Boise Support Center because they know. Trust me. I have the tech's email. And, no, i'm not giving it out.

My phone is syncing right now and has a Verizon as the carrier.

Jumpie, could you do us all a favor and call Apple back, give the tech your phone number, and they can look up the Case # for you so we can use it as a reference? Thanks!

I managed to get a restore going through iTunes, this should work now?

Edit: It tells me my sim is no good every time. Can't seem to get around this.

Eff this, I'm done wasting my time- putting the SIM back in the iP 5 and activating that phone for the time being and let this dust blow over- I can wait...

From what I am reading here, this is an issue for those who paid full price at an Apple store, not at a Verizon store? Or is it also failing for those who paid full price/month to month contract at Verizon?

Any idea whats up with this? Does it with both the SIM that came with it as well as the SIM that is activated from my working 5. WTF MATE?! Server getting hammered perhaps?

Happened to me as well. What happened is that Verizon customers who were strictly going from a 5 to a 5s and was purchasing the phone for full retail, it seemed to not like that.

For the record, first level people seem to have no knowledge of this issue. The ONLY thing he understood was the term RTA, didn't know anything about a cell center (or anything) in Boise. Its a big company so this is understandable I guess just calling back in again now LOL

30 minutes after my previous post I did a DFU restore and the phone is activated and working. Yay!

Out of nowhere appears mine is working as well?!?!

EDIT Confirmed working! w00t!!

Many thanks CaptainValor!!!! After an entire day of futility, DFU did the trick. Gobs of gratitude to ya!

How I fixed the issue.

1. I called Verizon Technical support and quoted internal ticket number: 6504781

2. Level 1 tech knows nothing, I escalated to Level 2

3. They filled a form requiring:

phone number (to be used, does not have to be Verizon)
IMEI
Serial
<Agent may ask for ESN or number beginning in 99 - but is not required>

4. Issue is escalated to another department

5. Phone working without DFU or carrier update. Was quoted 12 hours, worked in minutes.

I have this agent's email and have requested more specific information. I will post when I get this.

Just got off the phone with a senior advisor.. Explained EVERY little detail and she had nothing lol Finally I walked her through the process and it activated..

WTF! :D

DFU restore, and phone is working now.

But ... my iMessage won't activate.

Le sigh!

Mine did this yesterday too. I seemed to be the only one at the Apple Store and the Verizon store I visited that had this issue. According to an employee it only affected IMEIs that started with 3579, which were supposed to be out-of-contract phones. I picked up my phone at about noon and did not get home with a working one until about 8pm. But the Apple Store gave me a free beige Apple genuine leather case, and a soda. :)

Hmm, I can email him and see if he'll give it to me.

Everyone still having a problem?

Did you call and have them initiate the fix? If not, then just the simple act of restoring won't work.

Still having sim card not valid errors

i had this "SIM NOT VALID" issue the first day and they swapped the phone for a new one and it worked fine until i did a full restore on ios then i got the error again, apple didnt fix it they just swapped for a new phone, which worked until i updated the software, and once again they didnt fix it, they just swapped for new one, which worked until i needed to a restore. I called apple today and they said they will look into it and get back to me within 4 hours, but i see a lot of people called apple back in september and were able to restore their phones and have it work, could someone please tell me or email me EXACTLY what apple did to fix the issue so i can tell them, and preferably a ticket or case number i can provide them so they can look up EXACTLY how to fix it
