We'll see....

I just received a call from the Apple tech I've been working and he said it should be resolved for me. All I have to do is, Restore the phone, and then restore the back up.

Since I literally just got done syncing everything, this is going to take a while. As soon as it's done, I'll let you know if it worked.

Fingers, toes and everything else crossed

Yes!!!!!!!!!

Whatever he did, worked! SIM card activated and now i'm in the process of restoring from my latest backup! It activated and says Verizon! Woohoo!

Now, I can take a nap while this restores because I've been up since 5am EDT yesterday. ugh

does everyone else who is having this issue show that the 5s is now their phone on the verizon website?

doesn't make sense that it shows as activated on the verizon site, but the phone won't activate.

oh well, its nice to look at i guess......

It's absolutely ridiculous that you can't even USE THE PHONE in the meantime. Fine, don't let me make a call or use data, but FFS let me set it up.

You can set it up. With the phone plugged in, you'll get SIM not valid. Eject the SIM, unplug the phone, shutdown iTunes, plug it back in and restart iTunes and now you can set it up.

At least I think those were the steps.

Any idea what he did? Mine is still DOA!

My room mate is having this issue with his Verizon 5S. Got it this morning, tried activating himself and he cant, sim issue.

I'm researching for him. I told him to try restoring the 5S and reinstalling the software...

I have no idea, but call Apple and tell them what the deal is. Everything that's in this post. Tell whoever you talk to that the Boise call center techs know what the issue is.

Did you have an apple case number that we can reference when we call? I tried the restore option....it thought a little longer than normal, but still came back as SIM not valid.

This is so bizarre. I had the same issue and was working with it ALL DAY. I went back to the Apple store, I got 2 new SIM cards, and they even exchanged the phone (which I thought was completely unnecessary) but nothing worked. I was on the phone for over an hour with a Verizon rep and then he conferenced me in with an Apple rep and it just started to work. The Verizon rep and I did everything, from restore from recovery mode to resetting the SIM card. And nothing worked but all of a sudden it just did. So weird. Anyway I hope everyone's starts to work too! This was such a frustrating experience.

Can you please help to be more specific please? I am on the phone with Apple right now, and these people are clueless.

Please advise WHAT STEPS, references, etc you used to get this resolved through calling Apple. Thanks!

Jumpie - Do us all a solid before you take your nap, call them back and get your case number, and post it back here so we can have these clueless reps, informed.

Thanks pal!

Brian

There only solution was to tell me to update to 7.0.1, which I'm not about to do as I want to make sure I can jailbreak this thing when the day comes

The support center guys in Boise, ID, know what the issue is and how to fix it. I don't know what they did on their end. But it's all related to the SIM not registering from Apple to VZW and back.

I highly doubt there is any difference jailbreak wise. This was a rapid update to fix bugs. The jailbreak guys barely know what works at this point let alone Apple.

Same problem here. Black 64GB Verizon.

Go to twitter and search for SIM Not Valid and you'll see tons of people complaining.

Actually THANK YOU. If you didn't start this I never would've known that anyone else was having the issue. So, buy yourself a drink for all of us tonight! :D

Thanks! :) Honestly at this point all I want is for mine to work LOL

I've already updated to 7.0.1 and it didnt help...

I was told by Apple this update really wasn't an update per se but more of a glitch on how 7.0 was listed in iTunes for new phones.

But, who knows.

Well, instead of complaining on Twitter, call Apple's free support for your shiny new phone and tell them what the problem is. If they can't help or don't know, seriously, tell them to call the Boise Support Center because they know. Trust me. I have the tech's email. And, no, i'm not giving it out.

My phone is syncing right now and has a Verizon as the carrier.

just got off the phone with apple and i'm more frustrated now than before. they can't fix it. insist i go to a verizon store as its the sim sim sim.....

oh, and i was told by Daren at Apple that we are a small number of customers out of the billions they have and that overall its been a very successful day.

its starting to be NOT so nice to look at anymore....

FWIW, I followed the instructions and no dice.

What worked for me (I think anyways, it's restoring from a backup) was pop the sim card and open iTunes and BOOM, it starts the set up process.
