So Tim wants to prove he can outdo the tragic John Browett hire?

What an awful choice, and it stinks of politics.

Apple would be better off using Jimmy Lovine and Angela Ahrendts talents and connections.

C'mon everyone.....he is the PERFECT person to justify exploitation of third world slave labor, tax evasion, obscene payouts to executives, obscene profit margins when income gap disparity is at its highest level, etc. And if someone criticizes Apple leadership on legitimate issues, he will be the PERFECT person to delegitimize that person by making accusations of homophobia and discrimination.

I can't think of anyone better for the limousine liberal Apple executive team. Perfect hire.

Carney is a good man. I would worry a bit that the Obama haters might react negatively, but on the other hand they should already know that Apple is a liberal company that honors diversity.

Great point.

I think you forgot your sarcasm tag.

Goodness, I hope not. I understand the press secretary is supposed to promote the president's agenda, but this guy was just so smug about it. He belongs at some liberal college somewhere teaching electives.

Beyond just not liking the guy, I think he's too much of a lightning rod for a company like Apple. Especially when the administration he worked for is still in office.

I don't know first hand if Carney is a good man or not. I do not hate Obama, just not happy with the way our country is going. Diversity is healthy for any society.

Just give me good hardware and services.

Please tell me this is joke. This putz has holds 2013 Lie of the Year award from Politifact. Can someone tell why perhaps the worst press secretary in modern history would even be considered?

Carney is an excellent choice ... for the old Apple. Doesn't make much sense if Cook is serious about openness.

I'm definitely not an Obama supporter. But:

His previous job was basically delivering White House lines without the aid of a teleprompter. If he didn't have prepared lines for a question, then use as many words as possible without actually saying anything. All press secretaries do this in the modern world of politics. And yes, they all lie. Welcome to politics.

But anyway who Apple hires to do PR isn't something I'd be losing any sleep about. I'm far more interested in them continuing to drive innovation forward, creating incredible new products and experiences that will delight all consumers. Carney isn't going to have ANY influence over the stuff that matters to us so if Cook thinks he the right man for that particular job, so be it.

The overriding Apple mission is far more important than any guy hired to do some PR.

On the plus side, he'd be really great at blatantly lying about any hardware and software issues.

If that didn't work, he could probably cover up any scandals by feigning total ignorance.

"Teflon don" comes to mind.

So...

most of you lovers of Democracy think that companies can have religion, but a liberal CEO has to hire -- who -- Hannity? for this job. It wouldn't be a good fit.

But let your political madness flow. I don't have to listen to it.

How about hiring someone who's had experience running PR/communications for other companies? I'm sure if I spent 5 minutes on linked in I could find someone more qualified than a White House PR flack. I seriously hope this is a joke. I've already seen several people tweet Cook that they'll ditch their Apple products if he hires Carney.

BS. If they honor diversity, how about hiring someone right of center for a change?

Apparently Tim Cook only honors liberal diversity.

I can't believe all the Obama-related hate on an Apple forum since many Apple users tend to lean left. Is it finally ok to openly not like Obama without being called a racist or someone who is against hope and change? I just want to point out that I didn't like him before it was cool. :D Not that I'm by any means a fan of the republicans. Both sides can bite my shiny metal yeah…hiring this guy would be a bad call for sure!

PR unfortunately appears to now say whatever it takes to make your client appear in the best light, even if your client is wrong. PR rarely tells the truth, but often fabricates a man-made reality, that may or may not resemble the truth.

I try to keep my politics out of my electronics as much as possible, which is a chore as it is with Apple. Under its new leadership, Apple has taken a more overt political stance. And hiring this individual would probably be the final straw for me. My friends have been trying to get me to go Android, but thus far I have resisted. But that can change.
