BS. If they honor diversity, how about hiring someone right of center for a change?

How about hiring someone who's had experience running PR/communications for other companies? I'm sure if I spent 5 minutes on linked in I could find someone more qualified than a White House PR flack. I seriously hope this is a joke. I've already seen several people tweet Cook that they'll ditch their Apple products if he hires Carney.

----------

Apparently Tim Cook only honors liberal diversity.

No doubt, all political views are equal - but some are more equal than others. Conservatives need not apply.

I try to keep my politics out of my electronics as much as possible, which is a chore as it is with Apple. Under its new leadership, Apple has taken a more overt political stance. And hiring this individual would probably be the final straw for me. My friends have been trying to get me to go Android, but thus far I have resisted. But that can change.

This is why I hope it's just a silly rumor. If Apple does hire Carney I could see them losing some customers. I can't believe Cook would be that stupid. But he did hire John Browett who he said was "the best by far" so who knows.

Considering is one thing. Hiring is another.

The fallout after Obama is out of office will be massive. This White House staff could be more toxic than the Nixon administration.

I bet this "considering" announcement is a trial balloon as they watch the stock price over the next few days.

I typically don't mix politics and purchases, but this would give me cause for pause. For one I think he's completely unqualified, and two this move would have element of personal/political creep that makes me uncomfortable considering Obama using Apple and many others to violate people's privacy with the NSA

This would make the Browett hire seem genius. Really, Tim Cook needs to keep being focused on Apple being Apple and stop these jaunts into politics and aggrandizement.

I know he's not Steve Jobs, but this move is completely off the rails if true.

While Obamas record on surveillance has been poor lets not pretend that a president with an R after their name (except Ron Paul) would have been any better.

Off topic and irrelevant. Let me know when Carney serves a GOP president.

No, no, no... Jay Carney is just too tainted from the over-the-top deceitful Hussein Obama administration. This would be a really bad PR move by Apple. There is a lot of opposition to Obama, not just in the USA, but also in Europe. Not strange considering Obama has pretty much done exactly the opposite of everything he stood for before he got into office.

There are a hell of a conservatives who are apparently against Obama's NSA record who are going to vote for the Republican candidate in 2016.

And if the Republican candidate wins they will then do exactly the same thing with regards to this in office. Let's not kid ourselves that this is a partisan issue.

Obama is a bit right wing and authoritarian for us in Europe.

PR needs a woman's touch.

That is pretty sexist...

I can't believe all the Obama-related hate on an Apple forum since many Apple users tend to lean left. Is it finally ok to openly not like Obama without being called a racist or someone who is against hope and change? I just want to point out that I didn't like him before it was cool. :D Not that I'm by any means a fan of the republicans. Both sides can bite my shiny metal yeah…hiring this guy would be a bad call for sure!

I think there's a disconnect between Apple users broadly and posters to this forum, who apparently veer to the political right.

I'm not a huge Obama fan, but not for the bogus reasons propagated by US right wing corporate media, but because Obama is center-right cultural conservative, and not a true left/progressive.

So, the overwhelming majority of MacRumors readers are Republican. Interesting.

More like even Obama voters have limits. First Apple spends billions for subpar headphones and a washed up rap singer, now they're thinking about hiring a smug refugee from a failed administration. Apple's got a lot of money in the bank and they're riding high at the moment, but arrogance will do them in like it did Microsoft.

Look, if Tim Cook tells his employees to not talk about the iPhone 6 they'd darned well better not tell anyone about the iPhone 6.

I'm not clear why you think they should hire someone who'd just say "nuts to you, old man" and blab away.

There is a HUGE difference between keeping a product under wraps and "covering the butt"

It's so funny to see that most people don't like him because of how he spun Obama's lies but 5 years ago Obama could do no wrong to 90% of the people here.

No it seems that the overwhelming majority have come to the realization that Obama is the worst president since WWII...

Is it April fools in July? Seriously Tim? Why would you have anyone involved in government on the short list? There has to be better candidates for your PR chief than a political hack. Pretty soon Apple's executive ranks will be full of former Obama staffers.

It reeks of buying influence.

Of all the former Press Secretaries in the past, I'd go with Dana Perino if you're gonna go with a trustworthy appearing PR person.

Jay Carney....well, he's either sold his soul or he actually believed the bunk he spit.

The political environment today is much more polarizing than it used to be. Both sides are guilty of flaming the flames of that divide the parties and their politicians. And the country is close to evenly split - the last two elections show how close it is.

Given all that why would Apple want to hire someone that's so closely tied to one side of the aisle?

I don't agree. There was a duel between Dickinson and Jackson that Andrew Jackson won (and debate raged that he took a cheap shot after Dickinson fired).

It's just social media and partisan politics is raged among the elite newsmakers (those who decide what's "news") of our time due to more competition for the eyeball dollars.

Don't kid yourself. Plenty of liberal Democrats are disgusted by all things Obama.

I was a Bush fan. But he turned somewhat odd in his second term. I view Bush as much more of a decent former president than Clinton or Carter (just shut up, retire and do good with your blessings...)

You are probably right on the NSA, but the IRS scandal is looking worse by the minute.

As for Apple, they probably should avoid hiring too many high profile members of a controversial and increasingly unpopular president. It could alienate customers in their largest market.

Just like Bush at the end of his term, and Clinton before that and so on and so forth.

Clinton wasn't horrible and was politically savvy. He also buddied up with Bush HW Bush for good causes. Lying under oath (whatever the reason) should NEVER be acceptable regardless...

Bush left with dignity though his second term was meh at best.

Obama's second term is riddled with corruption, incompetence, crisis and plain ignorance of law (or ignoring...pick one)

Great point.

Though I find this a bit humorous, if that board is the best and brightest, diversity can pound sand if i'm an investor.

oh no...Apple is doomed.

I have thought the Press Secretaries for many presidents are somewhat cheesy. Always offering to shine a turd.
