I've been having problems with my wifi being slow and/or disconnecting for me on my iPhone 6 plus since 9/20. I've tried everything possible to fix it and they all seem to be temporary fixes which stop working after a few hours to a day.

Called Apple and they want me to exchange my phone in store, the store has no stock though and I don't believe it is a problem with the phone itself since so many other users are complaining about it as well.

UPDATE 9/30/2014
I returned my phone at the Apple store for a replacement and it seems to have fixed my problem. I will post back after a few days.

UPDATE 10/1/2014
Wifi disconnecting again after setting up as a new phone. Definitely a software issue.

UPDATE 10/3/2014
iOS 8.1 beta seems to have fixed the wifi issue. Been connected for a few days now with no noticeable problems. I would recommend restoring to it if you are registered.

So far I have tested this method for 2 days and haven't had a problem... yet... LOL

1. You should have restored your phone via itunes to 8.0.2 and setup as a new phone. Do not restore from a backup. I've noticed that causing significant battery drain and lots of error logs versus a clean install.

2. Your router should be using WPA2 security.

3a. For each network you connect to, click the blue ! in your wifi settings.

3b. Copy down the information you see there, such as IP Address, Subnet, Router, DNS, etc...

3c. Tap on "Static" and insert the information you just wrote down. If you have more than one DNS just pick the first one. For me I had 75.75.75.75 and 75.75.75.76. I only used one. Also leave search domains blank.

3d. HTTP Proxy should be set to off.

4. Enjoy your fast and reliable wifi connection! (hopefully)

You'll have to do this for every network you connect to. It is annoying but it seems to have fixed the problem for me.

Comment below if it doesn't work for you.

So it's a problem with getting an IP address via DHCP?
Why are there always inevitably wifi issues with iOS/OS X updates? Getting reliable, rock solid wifi connections should be one of the priorities for an OS in this day and age.

I'm not saying for sure 100% that it is what the problem is, but I've been running for 2 days on multiple networks without a problem. So far it seems to be the most promising fix I've tried. But then again, my 5s on 8.0 worked fine so that leads me to believe it could be hardware as well as buggy software.

all this seems to be is telling the phone it has static ip & dns & if this is a magic fix for a large number of people then it could mean a incompatibility with the ios dhcp & router dhcp server. its not a standard practice to force anything static on a client when the server(router) is probably not configured for so as a clash can happen, try giving ur phone a static ip from the router, as for the dns, look for something like dns passthrough(enable it) or local dns(disable it) & that should give the same effect as the manual dns ur entering. if ur going to test what i said then set the phone back to dhcp before doing so(dhcp means it asks the router for info every so often, it has a expiry time which gets seamlessly renewed, the renew point could be the issue with this whole thing, but if the router is assigning static data to the phone there is no renew period)

does anyone with the wifi problem(& without the problem) have dd-wrt running on their router? if so what build?

It's easier to set it on the phone, say for example if you're at a friends house. Since you would be using the same IP which is being assigned to you via DHCP it wouldn't run into any IP conflicts anyway.

I am also running dd-wrt on my access point which is giving me problems. Tried using tomato also, same result.

UPDATE 9/30/2014
I returned my phone at the Apple store for a replacement and it seems to have fixed my problem. I will post back after a few days.

Has your new phone given you zero wifi issues? Did the applestore say its hardware related?

I've only had it for about 10 hours now. No issues so far on 8.0... They didn't even look at it, just swapped out my phone when they saw I had called support previously and tried all the basic troubleshooting bs.

Did you get a new retail unit or a white box genius bar one? What store did you go to?

I actually had the wifi dropping issue on IOS 8 on my first plus so it may still need to fixed in 8.0.3.

It was a white box genius bar unit. I went to apple.com/sagemore

So why did you return it if it worked?

I returned it because I think it's better to be safe, than sorry ;)

Thanks for letting us know. How has this one been? Is it worth swapping it mine out. My plus return date is 6th October so not long to go before I can take back!

Selecting a static IP inside of the DHCP range is a terrible, terrible idea - especially with some cheaper home routers that won't know how to handle it. This advice is bad. Select an IP outside of the DHCP range.

aint that the truth ! 35 dollar chromecast doesn't have issues with wifi

Fix did not work for me

Less than a day but it's been fine so far.

Last Thursday, less than a week after getting a new iPhone 6, I noticed that my wifi connection would drop in my home. I reset my network settings. That didn't work. I contacted Apple. They suggested that I set up the phone as new since I set up using a backup from my old iPhone 4. So I wiped the phone and set it up as new. Took me a couple hours to do this and get all my apps reloaded, music, etc. In less than an hour, I DROPPED my home wifi connection again!!!! I signed in to this forum and tried setting up my phone using static IP address on my router and updated my phone as described in this post. Wifi network is still dropping. I have an iPad (3rd generation) which I upgraded to iOS 8.0.2 -- no problems.

I have an appointment at the Genius Bar on Friday. I wish I knew if this was hardware or software related. It looks like the wifi drops as the phone comes out of standby/sleep mode.

I'm fresh out of ideas. Looking for suggestions.

Well I had the wifi drop on my replacement phone now. Convinced it's software.

I have yet to update to 8.0.2 or setup as new though.

It may be a combination of hardware/software

Since my wifi only iPad is working on iOS 8.0.2 yet my iphone6 has problems, it may be both. Doesn't sound like getting a replacement is the answer either. By the way I spent 40 minutes in the Apple Store in Monday, and my wifi didn't drop at all.

I spent 3 hours waiting at an Apple store for my appointment. Got a replacement phone and it still disconnects! Setting a static IP like I suggested before does seem to work though.

Not. Here

I set it up with static IP address and mine is still dropping. Out of curiosity, do you also have an iPad connected to the same network? I wonder if the "handoff" between the two doesn't cause a problem. I could always connect my iPad to my guest network or vice versa. But then that defeats the purpose of the new feature.

The reason I suggest this is that the problem appears to occur at home where I have both devices.

I hate the thought of going there Friday, getting a new phone and still no real resolution.

I have an ipad 2, I didn't want to update to 8.0 on it... But it is connected and working fine. My 5s also had 8.0 on it for 3 days before I got my 6+ and it worked fine as well... Seems to be a combination of the 6/6+ and 8.0... I don't believe that it is hardware based though.

Just dropped again as I was typing my last reply.

I'm at a loss now. Seems like a replacement is pointless. I either have to keep and wait for an update or return for a full refund as my last day to do so is Monday.

I'm 99% sure it's a software issue so just wait. Even if it is hardware you still have a year warranty so you can exchange it whenever you want.

With 3 days remaining on my 14 day return window I couldn't wait no longer for a update to correct the WiFi issues... I exchange my device for HTC M8... Which by the way is the only Android device I would recommend for iOS users
