I'm 99% sure it's a software issue so just wait. Even if it is hardware you still have a year warranty so you can exchange it whenever you want.

Just for kicks, for those of you who are dropping wifi can you look in your diagnostics and see if you have any log files that start with "seld_yyyy-mm-dd-hhmmss". I believe I am getting one of these every time it happens.

My friend and I were at the local pub last night. We could not connect to their wifi anymore. I had no problems connecting at this bar before with my 4S running IOS 7.
I have a new iPhone 6 now and she has a 5. What we have in common is IOS 8.0.2. People with Android had no problems connecting but she and I just spun but could not connect. We reset network settings, we rebooted, to no avail. The issue seems to be certain wifi networks can be seen but will no longer connect with IOS 8.0.2. I don't have any problem with WiFi at home neither does she. It seems that there are networks I can no longer join. Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

Odd. My 5s running 8.0.2 last night was unable to connect to Chick Fila AA's WiFi after repeatedly trying. I eventually gave up and just used LTE.

Ok, so same issue. Unfortunately, I get no cell service in that place so connecting to Wifi and/or minimizing data use in general are key reasons for having wifi capability. It appears there is s pretty serious issue here. Folks will be burning up data use depending on various hotspot capabilities with a temperamental wifi issue.

May be a fix?

I have an iPad air that has the much reported Wifi problems with iOS 8. None of the fixes I have seen have worked for more than a couple of hours.

Earlier today I went into Settings, General, About and noticed it had some default (I can't remember) in Name that suggested the name hadn't been set. I changed this to something sensible and for several hours now I haven't had a single drop out or slowdown in speed.

Sitting next to the router I'm getting full WiFi speed (55Mbps on a 60Mbps broadband measured with OOKLA) consistently without the stuttering seen before.

Is it a real fix or will it break after a couple more hours who can tell? But it may be worth trying as I would imagine it's good to have a name anyway.

My iPhone 6 has my name. I don't drop connections. Instead, I have trouble connecting to some Wifi routers when out and about. I rely on this basic feature to keep my data plan within reason. If this is an intermittent issue with certain wifi situations, my data plan is going to become ridiculous. It's one thing to reconfigure your wifi at home in order to tweak this issue but this phone needs to be compatible with wifi on all basic levels.

The Wi-Fi drop outs continue! Spoke to an AppleCare UK representative yesterday and advised that I had tried all the possible steps to resolve. He agreed and said it could only be down to hardware so best to get a replacement.

I honestly don't think it will resolve the issue but the problem is the advisor said I was the first one to report wifi issues so I don't think they are going to acknowledge any time soon!

What to do as my return date is Monday 6th and I'm on my third iPhone 6 Plus 64GB -

1. Had yellow screen in bottom left hand corner and also dropped connection once ( 8.0)

2. Had a yellow screen and decolouring across the whole screen (8.0)

3. My current one - great screen but continuous Wi-Fi drop out issues (8.0.2)!!

Do you think its worth risking it for another replacement?!

First off, let me just state that I have a iPhone 6: 64GB Gold running 8.0.2 and I have had no problems with WiFi speeds OR dropping (also none on 8.0, skipped 8.0.1.)

With that being said, I think it would be wise for people with the WiFi issues to list the brand and model of their modems/routers, and I guess maybe their internet provider. I think, since some have reported that at certain places they have no WiFi dropping issues, then they go home or somewhere else and have the WiFi issues. One person in this thread said at the Apple Store he had no WiFi drop issues, so maybe it is a modem/router issue at play here? I am just trying to think out of the box as I really do not think this is hardware at all because I have had 7 friends with either a iPhone 6 or 6+ come over to my house for about 3-4 hours and no drop or speed issues. Also, they have no problem at their homes, and all but one have had zero issues overall. The one I mention had his WiFi drop at our local Panera Bread. So I am really thinking this is a modem/router issue and MAYBE how it is setup or just the modem/router all together and may possibly need a firmware update? So with that being said I will list my information.

1. Time Warner Cable: Ultimate Internet 300mbps/Download 20mbps/Upload.

2. I have a Time Warner issued Ubee DDW3611 Docsis 3.0 modem/WiFi router.

3. I just bought two days ago an Apple AirPort Express, which I bought because I was having some issues with my Ubee modems WiFi reaching certain parts of my house, and the AirPort Express solved the problem wonderfully.

4. I just want to state that I was not having any WiFi dropping issues or speed issues with the Ubee, just range problems and range extenders are in my opinion a bad choice when having this issue, so that is why I went with the AirPort Express. If the AirPort Express did not work, I was going to buy an AirPort Extreme, which I still may do due to the 802.11AC support but I will see. With the speeds I get from TWC I really do not think I need the AC right now.

One side note that I really liked was that with the Ubee I did not have to put it in Bridge Mode, just disabled the Wireless on it and let the :apple: AirPort Express take over and I cannot be more happy.

Anyway, my idea is maybe we can narrow this down to certain modems and WiFi routers, once that is done, those effected may be able to email or call the modems we find to be more problematic and let them know they are having issues and that may alert the company enough for them to look into it and release a firmware update? Just trying to help anyway I can.

This is not a hardware issue. This is a Broadcom driver issue. I have the issue on 5 GHz on my iPad and Apple TV. These issues were not present prior to upgrading to the new OS. 2.4 GHz is fortunately reliable.

It's not the first time they have heard of it, that's a lie because I called numerous times about my wifi problem before they decided to just switch the phone out. My replacement phone is having the same issues so no it's most likely a software bug/glitch.

I'm willing to bet you do have wifi problems as well, you just either 1. don't notice because it will connect back after some time or 2. You're not connected to wifi long enough to have a problem. I have 5 iPhone 6+'s in my family in multiple households with multiple routers and they all drop connection. Some in 5 minutes and some in 5 hours. Sometimes they connect back in a minute, sometimes they won't connect back until you reboot the phone. Running iOS 8.0 to 8.0.2

2.4 and 5.0 both drop for me on my Asus RT-N56U

Ok so it sounds like most people have a hard time connecting / dropping out. At least you guys can somewhat connect!

My iphone 6 64GB Wifi / Bluetooth is grayed out and says off. I can't even turn it on! When I restore to 8.0.2 (fresh install) I'll be able to turn wifi on but it won't connect to anything. Then after about an hour, it goes back to being grayed out. I've done reset network settings which doesn't help, restore fresh, restore backup, reset who knows how many times - nothing works. Considering that it does work initially I have to imagine its a software problem.

Oh, and my phone resets itself randomly multiple times during the day...

I always recommend updating system OS with apple however this pathetic excuse of an update will change my mind on that! I thought this would be an upgrade from an iphone 4 and sure the apps load quicker but I can't even use the internet...some change

If no update in a few more days that fixes this, I'll have to request a new iphone and see if that fixes the issue (doubtful).

I have the new 6 updated and from what I can tell I never drop wifi connection. Have problems connrcting to some routers while out though. Have an older Linksys broadcasting WPA personal on AES only. .

I think it's the software because I was having these wifi issues on a 5S. I now have a 6 and I had the issue once or twice. I think I should have stayed on 8.0. It was working better on my 6 than 8.02.

As I recall, the iPhine 6 has an updated Wifi radio able to run faster connections. It's likely that the drivers still need tweaking to accommodate slower as well as faster speeds. I had a Linksys N Router and had to move back to my old one. It kept dropping my signal.

Except a tiny flaw in that logic. The problem(s) are not exclusive to the 6s. So it's not due to some hardware which is only in the 6s vs. older iPhones. It's software, plain and simple.

I have an ipad 2, I didn't want to update to 8.0 on it... But it is connected and working fine. My 5s also had 8.0 on it for 3 days before I got my 6+ and it worked fine as well... Seems to be a combination of the 6/6+ and 8.0... I don't believe that it is hardware based though.

Just dropped again as I was typing my last reply.

Yeah it's not right, but 8.1 isn't far away. They said October for Apple Pay so there should be something within the next 4 weeks.

Spent 2 hours at the Genius Bar armed with my phone and laptop that had latest backup of phone. The goal was to fix wifi connectivity and eliminate the seld and stacks logs. Here's what I learned after trial and error. DON'T RESTORE YOUR PHONE USING A BACKUP!!!!!

They actually gave me a new phone. I restored iOS 8. Then restored from my laptop (win7) back up. Immediately, same errors started to occur. Same crashes in log. Wiped the phone again. Set it up as new. Played with it for an hour. Loaded about 5 apps and played some more. No crashes. I even syncd some music from iTunes. Still no crashes. Rebooted the phone. No crashes.

Returned home. Loaded a few more apps. I load apps via the App Store not using iTunes from laptop. No crashes.

I then set up fingerprint to unlock. I immediately got the first stacks crash. I then took the few apps I downloaded and opened each one. No crashes. No log entries. When I tried to move the apps to folders and move them to different screens, I got more stacks logs entries.

From what I can tell, backboardd is a process that deals with touch/home button. I think these errors are related to just using the phone. Probably nothing to be overly concerned about.

I was home for about two hours when I lost my wifi connectivity. No crash in the log. No seld errors. At this point, I'm beginning to think that my router doesn't push a strong enough signal and my phone wants to connect to cellular. Not sure about this. My next step is to get a new router. I have a net gear 300N which is probably 4 years old.

Bottom line is set phone up as new. Reload apps via the App Store. I no longer get seld errors switching between wifi and cellular. I still drop wifi occasionally. Stack+backboardd errors appear to be related to the touch interface.

Iphone 6 updated and not dropping connection. Try making sure your router is set to AES algorithms only. Not TKIP+AES. Let us know if this fixes the connection dropping issue. This setting is under Wireless Security in your router.

This is not a fix for many of us. The only fix will come from Apple in a software update

This is merely a suggestion to try in the meantime. If there are millions out there like me who have the 6 and have updated to 8.0.2, and who are not dropping wifi connections, I wouldn't rely on any software updates real soon.

This is interesting. Can't vouch for it but if you're dropping connections it may be worth a try.

It's rather amusing that the Apple discussions are full of posts back in Jan 2014 about wifi dropping issues after updating to IOS 7. Yes, 7.

My Wife & I both updated our 6 plus' to 8.0.2 the day following its release. As of today, mine has dropped connection three times; hers hasn't..............until one hour ago. :p Just because it hasn't dropped 5Ghz Wi-Fi doesn't mean it wont.

I might add that she's never been off the phone since she got it, whereas I have used it much less.

I am willing to bet you I do not. I made it a point to use my iPhone 6 as my main internet device for a day, it is a perfect time to do this as I just had a back surgery procedure so I have the time to sit here and do it.

I used my iPhone 6 for 2 hours and change one day and not one single drop, or speed issues. Then another day, I used my iPad Mini Retina for about 2 hours and no drop (I know this is not the device people are complaining about but I wanted to see if iOS 8 caused my iPad Mini Retina to drop WiFi.)

If it takes 5 hours, as you said, then I think most people will not be bothered by this because, who uses their phone for 5 hours straight? It was hard enough to use my iPhone 6 for 2 1/2 hours to browse the internet and what not, to see if it would drop.

It is pretty audacious of you to tell me I do have a problem and lecture me on it. You might as well make a brand new post and tell everyone who DOES NOT have a problem that they really do. I am sorry you, and your five iPhone 6+'s do but do not tell others that do not have a problem they do just to make yourself feel better or whatever your motive may be!

And just because you only use your phone for 2 hours and don't see the wifi disconnecting doesn't mean you don't have a problem. You just don't use your phone when it happens, but it does happen. I also never said you had to use it for 5+ hours straight. If you're connected to wifi for periods of time, your wifi disconnects. It is an iOS 8 bug and it happens to everyone, on any router, at any point in time, randomly.

Solution... iOS 8.1 beta.
