No, it's not just semantics. Betas are pre-release versions, which means that some functionality may not be present. GMC is essentially the final version and will be released pending QA. If bugs are found that are deemed critical (or whatever) then a new GMC gets released. I've worked at several companies that followed this process.
Golden Master candidate 3.0, but it's effectively the second candidate from a full installation perspective.
(GM Candidate 2.0 testing was limited 2.0 was a delta that required the first candidate. Better to test a full installer.)
These aren't GM's. They are GM Candidates. Don't know why this is so hard for some people to understand.![]()
I'm not seeing this icon in my Dock. Did you change any settings on your Mac?
Have they fixed the Finder preferences bug yet, for ****'s sake?
9 DPs and 3GMs ... you'd think someone would have noticed that Finder preferences are inaccessible.![]()
Thank you all for sharing all the bugs still not fixed.
I'll wait for 10.10.1 (maybe 10.10.2) for a clean installation on my Retina MacBook Pro 13".
i use this as a primary system now, and beside the laggy animations, i'm not experiencing anything. i reinstalled it completely (clean install) when the 1st GM Candidate came out.
so my advice for whom experiencing weird issues to do a clean install.
I think it may just be you... I don't have those black corners.
GM Candidate 2.0 was not compatible with WebKit.app (nightly) …
Wow, I do not have Yosemite yet and was looking forward to it. After reading this thread I think I'll hold off for a while when it is released.
Downloading now! 55.4 MB on my 2012 13" cMBP.
So totally irrelevant to Yosemite and about your iOS 8 so called bugs, you must be joking...Funny, I already listed two of them.
But those were Mavericks bugs. For iOS 8 from the top of my head
Settings app crashing constantly.
Safari crashing every now and then.
this update keeps logging me out, anyone know has this problem as well?
I was about to post the same thing. This is not a game changing bug! Hence why it's probably not getting fixed.
Continuity and handoff now work flawlessly for me. As soon as I open up Safari on my iPhone, I see the icon on my Mac's dock. As soon as I close Safari or put the phone to sleep, the icon disappears. Also, SMS messaging is back for me.
Edit: Also, there appears to be icons in the top right corder of the Safari icon for Handoff depending upon if you're using an iPhone or an iPad.

ugh.. really looking forwards to a new public beta.
Also, and i know this has nothing to do with this thread, but can anyone tell me what the 'location' option is for?
I don't think that's always been there, or has it?
And lastly one more bug Apple hasn't fixed...
THE FEEDBACK ASSISTANT itself knocks out your internet while collecting data, at least on Comcast Xfinity internet. I don't know why or how, but I have to reboot my router/modem after each Feedback report.
Why ?
You know GlenK, most here are just a smitten of the millions that will have it, and not go banana's over some trivial stuff that is now being posted. These are fanatics that have not seen the outdoors for a good while. And when they read my post here they will jump on me as if they think what they are arguing over is important and I don't have a clue.. Sad.. Real sad
1. transparency rant
2. Name of OS should be rant
3. Thin fonts rant
4. What does GM actually stand for rant
5. Etc, etc
When I worked at this little software company in Redmond, "gold master" meant something different. Testing wad done and the GM was the actual imagine that wad going to be replicated a gazillion times. Of course that lets you know how long ago that was.
I've never understood why the filename for the disk utility icon in launchpad has always been wonky (ie not centred)
Is it so difficult to centre it?
It doesn't bother me, it's more amusing than anything else.
I assume that you are not a developer. Can someone answer a simple question please?
If I install the newest GM candidate public release on my main working machine, what happens if a new candidate version is released? Can I just update it the same as a 10.x.x update? Or do I need to do a whole new install again?
Secondly, once the final version is released on the 16th, can the candidate version be updated or will I need to do a whole fresh install?
Thanks.
I assume that you are not a developer.
1. GM candidate is not a public release: it is for developers. However, you can install new GM candidate version (as if there would be any) over current one.
2. Candidate version can be updated to a final version but not through App Store. You can download final version from other sources (as you did with GM version) and install it over your GM. However, Public beta users will have an opportunity to install final version through App Store since it is linked to their Apple ID.
Verdict: do a fresh install of official release, so that Yosemite will be linked to your Apple ID.

… third golden master candidate of OS X Yosemite to developers …
Build number for GM3 is 14A388a.
… the public beta download from Apple, it is currently downloading. Will this version be the GM candidate being discussed in this thread or is it an older beta version?
Why ?
