That's why they'll still warranty it once you remove the gold plating, as previously stated. They do not have an obligation to service unapproved modifications/parts.

Don't be silly in invoking the MM act. Otherwise, the void warranty wouldn't be an issue without Apple getting into trouble.

How on earth do you plan to get it all????

Hi everbody,

I´m from Berlin/Germany. I sended my Apple Watch last week and it was delivered to WatchPlate on Friday. It should be shipped yesterday but I didn´t got an e-mail with a tracking number. So I don´t know if it was really shipped.

I must admit that I´m also a little bit anxious. My Apple Watch was a birthday present of my family. They will killing me if I didn´t get it back soon.

Fingers crossed that I get a tracking number today.

@Rian: Can you please help me? I was already in contact with Amber.

It's going to take a couple days, I got my fedex shipping notice from Watchplate the evening it was shipped out, it was actually almost 1/2 to my house by the time I received the notice. Give them a chance, I'm sure it'll only be a day or so more.

Thanks for your help! Maybe I should have a little more patience. :)

How does the gold color compare to the Edition? I watched a video of a 24k plating by another company compared to the Edition (it's on YouTube). The colors are noticeably different. 24K is as gold as gold can be, and the 18K is a nicer tint.

nice

nice write up and pictures..

the only comment I'd make is that I think the original apple watch for 10,000$ will lose a lot more than 2K$ when apple watch 2 comes out. I don't really seeing it hold that much value at all as the technology progresses..

Some think it will somehow have collectors status as a V1 product, possibly. I don't see it though. I've been collecting hand made watches for decades and I don't really see the V1 apple watch being able to hold that type of cache, even if it is 24K gold. We'll see soon just how much GOLD is in the apple watch when ifixit tears it down and melts it.

You've made a good choice though to get a gold one. ;-)

What I'm saying is you can leave the gold-plating intact. Apple has to service the unmodified part. So if the battery dies at 50% or the buckle fails, those have nothing to do with the gold-plating. If the screen stops responding or the digital crown stops spinning, then maybe it is the gold-plating but Apple still has to do the diagnosis and prove it.

The gold version looks so beautiful. I want to do that with my watch (have to wait till June). If they have convinced Kanye West to use their service with his link bracelet, I am sure the craftsmanship is great.

There are ways to do it. They'll be obligated to service it once removed.

I hope if anyone actually removes the plating they post pics here. And I'd be great if they'd include a spy camera in the box when they send the watch to Apple for servicing so we can see the faces of the techs that open the box.

I don't think so because otherwise this would have been tested and people would be succeeding in getting Apple to service aftermarket modified iDevices. This hasn't happened so you might want to do more research on the MM Act before spreading such misinformation.

A vehicle, for example, has many different warranties covering several parts of it. Even if you modify a certain component with an aftermarket, it doesn't affect the warranties on the other, unrelated components so the dealer will be happy to ignore the aftermarket part (they're not touching it after all). If you gold-plate an iDevice, it's not possible for Apple not to come into contact with the gold-plated shell so they have the right to refuse to service it until you remove it. Additionally, you won't be able to invoke several sections of the MM Act as AppleCare+ isn't strictly a product warranty but also covers replacements and other services.

Watchplate Review

Well, like everyone who has posted so far, I've just received my order back from watchplate and I couldn't be happier. The watch looks amazing.

Thank you Ryan!

Damn that looks tight with the black classic! I like it

Has anyone heard of the company Baseus? They are selling a few aftermarket bands in red with the gold, a combination only available from Apple along with the Edition itself. It says it fits the 42 mm and appears to come with its own adaptors… i'm a little thrown off by the shipping date that set in June but I'm also tempted to give it a shot. I think for certain occasions throwing a red band on my new gold watch is gonna look sick. Any idea if they're legit?

There was a slight issue with the plating of my milanese band… I was one of the original orders before he upgraded his equipment, and apparently the old equipment was sometimes causing him problems for the magnetic clasp. He called me about it earlier this week and sent me photos, and we decided that he was going to strip it and re-do it with the new equipment... But as a result I didn't get my watch back on the original schedule. It is actually on a FedEx truck out for delivery right now, so I'm expecting it in the next few hours. I will definitely post pictures !

That sounds really great! On my Apple Watch there was a small issue on the watch, too. That's way my shippment is delayed. Seems that the WatchPlate-Team makes it really perfect. # Looking forward to your pictures! :)

Did you get your watch? Let's see pics!

I got the watch today and my Milanese band (my sport band is being sent separately) and it looks fantastic! I am really pleased with the results.

I've made a silly little video to show the results, in an attempt to earn the $100 rebate he offered for early buyers/reviewing, so check it out:

https://youtu.be/e8P3hfLipzk

I also attached a few of the pictures (low-res...) that show it best. The watch face supports a slight yellow/gold color for the Chronogram and it look sick with the gold... I had a lot of trouble getting a picture that really shows that, I think you just have to see it for yourself.

Ryan, excellent job my friend! There were a couple of little communication / shipping hiccups, but Ryan was great sorting everything out and communicating with me, and I have full confidence that in no time he will be running a streamlined operation.

I'll post more pics when my sports band arrives!

Can someone make a picture how it looks behind the watch adapter? Is that part also plated?

I really like the look with the Classic Buckle btw.
I have a sport now but going to order a SS Classic Buckle just for this.

What are the total costs for shipping to Europe? Because I am from the Netherlands.

I asked them but after one week I still got no answer.
(I also asked about the Tax payments. don't want to pay for the hole watch tax again)

Exactly. It's not that they won't service it. They just won't service it with modifications in place. And they won't cover any damage that is due to modifications.
