Looks good, but how do we actually know he is using real 24k gold? He should release a video showing what the process is. Also, on the top right side of your watch screen, I see some specs of gold. Can u clean that off? Or is that dust? Thanks

Good question. It's trust right now. But material cost is way less than we would think. 24k gold is not that expensive for this amount of plating. When he first did it himself without the thought of starting a business, it cost him $6 in material.

And the top corner is just reflection

Has anybody else taken advantage of this service and received their watch back?

I sent mine out a week ago and I haven't heard anything… I'm getting a little bit anxious, and I'm not getting replies to my emails. Either they are just so swamped with orders that they're behind schedule and don't have time to reply to all the messages.... or I got scammed. I am still reasonably sure it's the former scenario, although another couple days will change my opinion. In any event it would be reassuring to hear anyone else that's had success with this.

Fortunately I was able to drop off and pick up my watch based on my location and when I placed my order. I know when I went to pick it up, he had a few watches that were done from what I could see. It was order numbers around 10.

If you are a lot higher, he is probably swamped right now. Along with media requests, and everyone send him emails.

Thanks for this reply! I am order #13 so hopefully mine was one of the ones you saw waiting.

Wish they were making sure to respond to emails... Doesn't feel good to have sent them my new toy and now have no way to get info. But if you saw the shop in person, it is reassuring at least

I didn't see the actual shop, but when he grabbed mine I saw a few that were done. It had labels on the screen indicating which order number it was. I ended up getting a shipping email so he might be running through the list of orders and shipping them out.

Well this sucks, I just sent mine today. They have been really responsive to my emails thus far, I am order #75, looks like I will be waiting a while.

I believe he said the $6 was a typo.

It's actually $60 (sixty dollars) worth of gold, which makes a lot more sense.

Hey Everyone! I'm the founder of watchplate.com, which by the way, I started because of friends on this forum suggesting it when i posted pictures of the first one. You guys are right that we were swamped with all the press and orders, but we upgraded our system this week and got almost all our orders shipped today! As a thank you and to make up for any lost time, we upgraded everyone who sent their watch in last week to overnight shipping for free.

Expect a lot of reviews and pictures tomorrow!

*exhales* that was a CRAZY week. System is dialed in and the watches look amazing.

That is great news dude! I hope you got mine last week and it is in that batch... very excited to get it back.

Been following this thread with some interest Rian, but was disappointed to see that international shipping is no longer included in the flat fee - kind of killed it for us, unfortunately. But best of luck to you, and congrats on the results.

Hey there, I understand why it would, I'd feel the same way, but the international shipping costs us on average $75 each way. Free shipping international just wasn't sustainable, so we added a $99 flat fee.

Well I'm order 56, but I have faith that the process will be quick and can't help but smile when we're seeing a fledgling small business start to flourish. (Especially a Southern Californian one:))

Hi everbody,

I´m from Berlin/Germany. I sended my Apple Watch last week and it was delivered to WatchPlate on Friday. It should be shipped yesterday but I didn´t got an e-mail with a tracking number. So I don´t know if it was really shipped.

I must admit that I´m also a little bit anxious. My Apple Watch was a birthday present of my family. They will killing me if I didn´t get it back soon.

Fingers crossed that I get a tracking number today.

@Rian: Can you please help me? I was already in contact with Amber.

Dude relax.....

The warranty issue has yet to be tested, but I was told during my GB appointment that if any third-party modifications were removed, and the device had not been opened, AC+ is still in effect. AC+'s incidental $80 replacement fee covers everything including driving over the watch with truck, so it seems to me if you really got stuck you could remove the goldplating and exchange the scratched up result (plus a small fee) for a new watch. But as I said, this has yet to be tested and may not fly... They may consider it permanently modified even if the gold itself was scraped off

Anyone with US warranty concerns should definitely get familiar with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. It basically says that the manufacturer is obligated to prove that the modification is related to the defect. It's a big deal for aftermarket car parts. One example is that the car dealer can't void your warranty when your transmission fails after you installed new wiper blades. In this case, Apple would have to prove (not just speculate) that the gold-plating is the cause of the problem. Too bad Apple would likely just replace the broken/defective watch rather than actually fix it and give back your original watch. It's almost the same scenario people were in back when iPods and iPads were getting custom engravings.

Bottom line: You're not voiding your warranty unless Apple can prove the gold-plating caused the problem. You'll almost certainly get a replacement watch rather than have it repaired if you make a warranty claim. It's still way cheaper than an actual solid gold Edition watch.

I just got my shipment notification! My gold watch is on its way home!!

That's why they'll still warranty it once you remove the gold plating, as previously stated. They do not have an obligation to service unapproved modifications/parts.

Don't be silly in invoking the MM act. Otherwise, the void warranty wouldn't be an issue without Apple getting into trouble.
