Sorry if this sounds very very stupid, but my new mbp doesn't sit evenly and one of the corners doesn't touch the desk. It's nothing to worry about in terms of if something in the future were to happen, apple woudl try to say i dropped it or something?

That's too bad. My current PB doesn't sit straight on a desk, but that is because I've dropped it too many times. :)

Hi Everyone, especially Multimedia,

I am having fun with my new 15" 2.33 MBP Matte, Stock, Everything I hoped and more. Installed some work programs, now installing parallels and windows xp.

This beauty is slick, VERY quiet, VERY cool, and well, she's a beaut. My first mac and I love it!!!

As always much thanks for the advice, and keeping me patient for the C2D.

Also, the green light for the camera is pretty awesome :)

Thanks
Neuroguy

C2D MBP Rear Vents Are A Radical Redesign That Makes All Prior Mobil Macs LAME Hot

They are a radically new design making all prior mobile Macs fully obsolete. No way will these new C2D MBPs ever get hot.

Still waiting on my top of the line 15" w/ glossy screen... If anyone else wants to wait with me, apple finally shipped.. here's my tracking info :p

It is probably not a good idea to post tracking numbers. Apple uses your phone number as the 'reference number', so someone could possibly find out who you are, and know that you have a nice new MBP coming, and when. You may want to edit out your tracking number, and instead, post a screenshot, with the number whited out.

Fujitsu 200 GB drive is not PMR!

There's an in depth comparison of several mobile drives on Tom's HW including the 160 Hitachi and 200 Fujitsu. Here's how they stack up...
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/10/12/fujitsus_mhv2200bt/index.html

Very interesting. So it turns out that the 200 is not PMR after all! Instead, to get the extra space, Fujitsu added a third platter, which also increased the height of the drive. So it will not fit in a standard 2.5 drive space.

The review summary is fairly negative:

In my opinion, Fujitsu developed this drive in order to grab the title of "first 200-GB mobile hard drive," while buying time to develop new standard-sized PMR-based drives. To Fujitsu it was only a matter of time before competitors, like Seagate, which already have an edge in PMR technology, would hit the 200-GB mark. By increasing the height of the drive, Fujitsu broke away from convention and thus it should not be compared to other standard-sized 2.5" drives. To me, increasing drive size as a solution to increasing drive capacity is a step backwards. Fujitsu's attempt to resolve the storage limitation in mobile drives solves some problems while creating others.

Still, I'd like to see a performance comparison with the 200 appropriately partitioned as recommended on that other site I have the link to lying around somewhere. E.g., create a 120 GB partition, and compare performance within that partition to a 7200 rpm 120 GB drive. I wonder what the result would be.

I wish US Customs would get there act together...
Apparently that's where my MBP is being held-up.

My overnight shipping isn't fairing too well...

Oh well - it will be here soon enough :)
(just frustrating to see so many others having tracking numbers or having already received their MBP)

I am there with you. My order has changed to a delivery date of 11/2, one day later than my shipment notice said. That peves me a little, but there is nothing I can do about it. I guess I will just have to work on that huge project I have due in my design class next Monday instead of playing on my new MBP. Now that I think of it, this is a bad week to get a new laptop. I have a lot of homework this week and a psych test next week. I may be in trouble.

Everyone says FedEx this, FedEx that. How do I know my FedEx tracking number? Or is this only within US? Is anyone here from Australia?

Hey, I feel your pain. Aussies don't get no lovin' from the local Apple store for shipping information.

First, you need to login using your Apple ID to the US Apple Store (not the aussie one). This tells you the courier (which should be TNT) and your consignment number.

You then plug that consignment number into this page: http://www.tnt.com/webtracker/tracker.do?navigation=1&respLang=en&respCountry=AU&genericSiteIdent=

Happy tracking.

Hello Everyone,

First time poster here. I just received my new MacBook Pro in the mail today, and I just wanted to thank everyone here at the forum for keeping me distracted while I waited for this update.

For those interested, I purchased the 15.4 inch, 2.33 GHz model with a 160 GB HD, 2 GB of RAM, and a matte screen. (I was upgrading from an 800 MHz PowerBook G4).

I would be happy to try and answer anyones questions. For those still wondering about the viewing angle, the manual states: "The display is not meant to open past 130°."

OK time to get back to playing with my new toy!

Well it's wonderful. I can't hear a peep from anything.. and I've been doing a lot. I'm just installing WoW now and the drive is QUIET! Way quieter than my desktop. I'm amazed by this whole thing. The latch to open the thing does require a little bit more pressure than I thought it would, but I don't consider it damaged or defective.

I'm as happy as a clam. I'll setup Boot Camp later tonight I think... :)

TheSith:

Thank you for responding! I wanted to hear from you especially since we both have the 120GB drive in our machines.

To the person who asked the "What is hot?" question, my 12" PB idles at 42C/108.5F, which is pretty cool. Running WoW and folding@home for 15 minutes pushes the processor to 60C/140F. The latter temperature is starting to get uncomfortable for the PB to be on bare skin. Hope that helps as a comparison.

True enough, but given that I live in a dorm room and run a webshop and have several websites (all of which can be whois'd to find out my name, phone number, and home address) I don't feel all that concerned with privacy... Not to mention my entire dorm wing knows I have a new MBP coming along with how much it cost... heh.. I should probablly get a lock and insurance shouldn't I... But uhh.. yeah, if you guys feel the need to prank call my cell phone, by all means, go ahead :p

Flight 139

I hope that everyone posting that their MBP's arrived in AK today means a large shipment (including some glossys) went out from China at once, and some are allocated for Apple Stores. I hope it was a smooth flight.:)

A boy can dream, can't he?

Help, please

Everybody seems to be very excited awaiting for their new MBP. Now, would you mind trying to help me with these questions while you wait so I can order mine?

I need to decide between a 15" and a 17" MBP, and I've heard that for some women the 17" area around the mouse can sometimes be uncomfortable (seems to be kind of far from the keyboard). I've been to a Mac store and tried both sizes, but I can't tell from just standing there for 10 minutes. Can anybody help me with this?

Is it worth spending the $300 some on the warranty?

I would also appreciate any other comments you may have on preferring one over the other.

Thank you.
