Still trying to figure out how my July purchased, 8 core, 3.0ghz, with 9gb ram Mac Pro and 30" ACD are "outdated"......

:):rolleyes::confused::D

Currently, the eight-core isn't. Instead of posting your snide comment you should have read where people have stated it is not. Also, when the new Mac pro hits with eight-cores in the base I will be feeling pretty good knowing i didn't waste $1000 more for an eight core.

Keep waiting guys - meantime I will keep ripping my 600+ DVD collection in Handbrake at about 25 minutes encode time a pop ;)

If that is all you do with the thing you surely wasted your money. And guess what, in a few months I will be able to do the same thing for $1000 less.

PS - When the new one finally get's announced, and you have waited a month for it to start shipping,

The new iMac was shipping right away, as are most Apple products when they are announced

then another 4 months to make sure any intial bugs are ironed out,

Just like the original Mac Pro had bugs for 3-4 months? This Rev. A myth needs to die.

then another 3 months for the GPU update that didn't come out to start with - well then you will be mid release timetable and we can all start over waiting for the 2009 update with 16 cores and an aircraft simulator built in.......

Just like the iMac and MBP had to wait 3 months more for their GPU update right? I really hope you don't plan on posting any more crap. This has to be one of the worst posts I have read in this thread. What difference does it make if we wait? Whats more, why do you have to come in like a macho man and attempt to knock down those waiting to justify your own purchase?

When you are done ripping your DVDs, you should watch them and avoid this thread. Thanks.

I am doing the same thing (albeit a little slower but not by much) with my PowerMac G5 with an ATI X800 XT card.

Come November (or before) I'll have a new Mac Pro with a much better video card than you have.
You will be eating my dust.

1600MHz FSB Harpertowns

I just got done reading that dailytech article, myself.

I thought one sentence was particularly interesting, "Intel plans to release these 1600 MHz front-side bus processors in Q4 2007 with the rest of the Penryn family."

Maybe there is a chance that the next Mac Pro will have these 1600MHz FSB Harpertowns.
Wouldn't that be the cherry on top?!!!

Yeah baby! :D:apple:

Waiting is so easy these days

I'm going to speculate that 1600MHz FSB Harpertowns are comming this year as Intel managed to fill Apple's order for 3.2GHz and 2.8GHz Harpertowns and had enough 3GHz left over from the binning process to put out in to the retail market.

Hey Guys

I apologise to anybody who took offense at my post - the intent was to point out to the original poster that those who have already bought should not consider themselves having "outdated" MP's when the new one ships (and certainly not before it ships).

The postscript was meant to be a humourous assessment of the dilemma we all have purchasing new stuff and what may be around the corner. Shame it was taken out of context by I suspect a minority. :(

Guys who are waiting will get an awesome machine and guys who buy now will get an awesome machine. Neither will be outdated and neither is wrong.

Again, apologies if I offended anybody.

Quite sincere I assure you. I'm from the UK - we obviously have a different sense of humour over here.

Sadly there have been a few users on here who were also in your situation with a new machine and came in to EVERY thread about anyone asking or talking about waiting, or what might come, speculating on hardware, dates or anything, and basically call those people idiots. So it's become a touchy subject.

Along those lines, I'm hoping that a Mac Pro will provide me with the computing power I need to call people all over the world dumbasses and douchebags because they don't share my vast knowledge and opinions. :D

I've been predicting an August MP update for a while, but that clearly didn't happen. Is there any chance for a September update, perhaps CPU bumps, or is there so little in the pipeline that Apple is stuck waiting for November for significant upgrades? I would think that Apple would have to drop those 2.0ghz CPUs soon.

We can only hope for a miracle that Apple receives everything early for a Paris update. But that won't happen considering they are due for the iPhone and other things. First week of November sounds good for me. And yes, 2.0ghz is old school now. Who uses 2.0ghz? lol And here I am still in Megahertz land.
