I guess what I was thinking was that maybe it seems a little far fetched to have all these mystery ports (a display port no one has seen before, and missing FW ports)

At this point it would almost seem like these cases could be rejects in manufacturing and the port is too small on that batch. Seems about as likely as this mystery port.

I agree with you about the possibilities that these aren't the new MB/MBP cases at all but some kind of prototype or rejects. But as far as mystery ports being far fetched, iPod connector, mini-DVI, micro-DVI, Apple has been known to make their own ports to suit there needs.

Yes, you CAN chain audio interfaces. Most of them have 2 FW ports for that.

But, if you can afford a MBP you'll at least have a FW port!
I can't afford a MBP and I need FW too, so I'm screwed !

Well mine only has one, and it was DESIGNED by Apple! I'm screwed unless there's 2 ports as I need my fw 800 drive as well. If there's only one then I gotta hope there's no problem daisy-chaining my Duet into the hard drive but that just sounds like bad news somewhere down the line.

so even us pro will get the sthiest keyboard ever on our 3000$ machines?, what an insult

Lol no,
it fits because you look on the front of the plug so you have to turn it 180°.
But I too saw on other pictures that they are different from this.
Dunno, maybe different versions or just compressing as someone mentioned...

Nope. take a look on the picture. Compare to wikipedia-article. It doesn't fit.

EDIT: Actually I stand corrected. Dunno what's wrong with me ;-)

What about mini-HDMI as someone suggested before?

Mini-HDMI looks nothing like that. I posted a photo in my earlier post, but will re-post here for your convenience.

I'm also going to re-post my findings for the idea that it could be a Mini-DisplayPort here as they weren't picked up on due to me amending my previous post.

I did a search for mini-displayport and came up with a PDF from a Chinese company about their operation for 2008.

On page 43 they mention that from January to March this year they did the following:

1/1/2008 ~ 3/31/2008
1.Batch production for Sony HDMI Cable 3M.
2.Development to Apple’s mouse cable and keyboard cable.
3.Development to Apple’s Mini Displayport.
4.Development to Displayport products.
5.Development to halogen-free signal cable.

As nice as they were to print this information, they don't provide a photo of the port.

maybe the FireWire S800T uses breakout cables? That might make more sense, uses less ports... like the Apogee Duet.
as well a lot of people don't use firewire so its not needed. So the people who DO need to plug in their firewire device just connects their appropriate 400/800 breakout cable.

Just a guess?

Remember the Air, everybody was whinning, well all the buyers are extremely happy with thir toy and no one miss the firewire.
:apple:

How do you know that ? All the buyers ? Did you take a survey or are you pulling that out of your *ss and making yourself look like one in the process ? Toy, indeed.

I've written it somewhere in this thread: I think most likely it is a proprietary Apple connector that translates to dual-link DVI with a bundled adapter. As it's no industrial standard, the development would not have had to be public.

This has probably been mentioned but why this "从左到右 PCI-E卡插槽 耳机 音频输入(话筒) 火线800口 两个USB MINI-DVI输出 电源接口" having the case in their possession do you think they were stupid enough to miss this mini-dvi thing, if they are the fans we are, you would think that with it in their hands they would figure this out too...but if it is a connector that aside using the APPLE connectors sucks, they break with continual use, forcing you to use the connector would be an apple move.

Very interesting and if I had to bet on any of the suggestions that have been thrown out there for this port I would be willing to bet on yours.

Besides, the ExpressCard slot should allow you to add FW400 ports, should you need more.

In that case I hope the ExpressCard slot works better than the one on the current MBP. The cards don't stay in well at all, and if they shoot out while using an audio interface, it can freeze the system right there.

The FW cards I've seen also need external power, so that means more wires and power bricks.

Maybe a stupid question, but if there's no firewire, how are you supposed to transfer your files from your old computer to your new macbook?

I don't think I've ever seen a USB to USB cable...

It says: "From left to right: PCI-E card slot, audio headset (microphone), FireWire 800, two USB, MINI-DVI, power interface". So what you suggest is that the mysterious port actually is FW 800 and the one next to Ethernet, which was not mentioned, is Mini-DVI... or what?

Maybe the poster on the Chinese site is not a complete expert either?

Translated this for you and it reads:
"From left to right PCI-E card slot audio headset (microphone) FireWire 800 two USB MINI-DVI output power interface"

EDIT-DonSqueak beat me to it

What about mini-HDMI as someone suggested before?

mini-HDMI = No Dual Link Support

No Dual Link Support = No Apple Cinema Display Support

They'll probably use Mini DIV || DisplayPort

I'm all for DisplayPort because it would be the most backwards compatible solution.

I'm more concerned about the new ports and price point.

I'm sure that the price point will be lower, but will Apple package the Cable connectors / Convertors for the new port setup?

Firewire 400 to 800 and the new DisplayPort/Mini DVI connectors.

I doubt they will, thus bringing the price point back to exactly where it was before.

And now I'll have to move all my damn cables to the other side of my Desks to accommodate the new location of the ports!

Why FW400 and FW800.Fw400 is unecessary.HDD i can connect to eSata.I can make RAid from 5 HDD.And fw800 is comaptible with fw400 and it is more faster.fw400 is dead.My dream is Hdd RAid eSata.AJA io hd to fw800 and i will be video killer.:D

Some of us use 2 FireWire ports ALOT! 400 isn't dead at all, its still WAY better than USB for audio or video.

only annoyance i can see is that when using a wired mouse or game controller the cord will have to go all the way to the left side as opposed to a more natural right side.

Exactly.:confused: Many of us are perplexed why FireWire would be dropped. But then the MBA has no FireWire either.
