Same thing that happens every time I suppose.... I guess I just like my restricted FAST iPhone.

So what you should have said was "it's not worth it for me".

I personally think the "hassle" is more than worth it. Of course I've dealt with much bigger hassles in life than five minutes to jailbreak and having to download and install great software that Apple refuses to give me.

In my opinion, the jailbroken software isn't that great. I'll just wait for Apple to do it "right"... if they never do anything at all... I'll still use my iPhone... I just like how clean it is with no jailbreak.

I will however, happily jailbreak my iPod touch and 1st gen iPhone because I don't really care about those as much as my 3G.

JBing has added a few features to my iphone experience that I really now couldn't do without.

1.SBSettings - this is sooo useful that apple must take note and implement summat similar. The the swipe to access and then toggles are quick and easy and when you add things like processes killer and agentfaker it really comes into its own. (In fact SBSettings ahould be the answer to any question as to whether its worth it to JB)

2.PDAnet - again, this is sooo useful that apple actually removed it as an offical app! Gotta tell you something.

3.Having a memory like a sieve, being able to change the banner for somethng more useful - like my own number has been super useful - esp considering it doesn't show up anywhere else on the phone!

4.Battery % - I just like to know, ok!

Everything else like themes etc isn't really my bag and compromises on the interface speed. So while my 4 reasons don't seem like much of an incentive having tried JBing and factory fresh, I think you can have the best of both worlds and JB to add genuinely worthwhile features.

3. If you're talking about the "banner" meaning the time at the top of the screen, you can change that without Jailbreaking.

4. You can get battery percentage without being jailbroken but, you have to jailbreak first to gain access to com.apple.springboard.plist ...Once you've made a backup with that file changed, it will get transfered to your non-jailbroken iPhone.

To me it's really not an all or other.

My current phone is stock. I've had devices that I have made as many modifications as I could fine. For me it's just time and mood.

I've seen cool advantages to jail breaking and many people are clearly thrilled with it.

A minority of users, who arguably should have left well enough alone have had problems.

It's really just of a mood thing. If you asked me why I didn't jailbreak, it would be more "i just didn't feel like it"

I'm not quite sure I understand the interest in why someone else would or wouldn't modify a particular piece of gear.

Just my $.03

Good post. We don't really need reasons to not jailbreak. Just depends on what type of person you are.

Jailbreak when you want to.
Don't when you don't want to.

Sounds good.

#1 Reason to jailbreak the iPhone: So you can make fun of the people who haven't jailbroken ;)

"Hey baby... did you know my iPhone can shoot video? Check it out. Hang on, it's loading... sometime today it will come up... oh, here it comes... any second now. Okay, got it... wait... it's not responding, hang on I'll just force quit it. Hmm... that's not working... perhaps a hard reset will do the trick...... hey, where'd you girls go! Oh well, I love my jailbroken iPhone! YIPPIE!"

Great post. Solid argument. You've changed my opinion.

I'd say more, but a mod would probably delete it.

To tell you the truth, i've got just 2:
1) yellowsn0w
2) Cycorder

I really hope someday apple gonna introduce iphone officially in Ukraine and make video shooting possible w/less body movements, so I'll buy official phone with convenient carrier and will continue to buy apps in the AppStore, but in Ukrainian, not US, as I found a way to do now :):apple:

This is where the problems arise.

For some people jailbreaking is worth it for others it isn't. It is a matter of personal preference, just like Safari v Fireforx, Matte v Glossy ... ad nauseam

The whole jailbreaking scene arose out of the fact that apple locked down the device and functionality that quite a large amount of people wanted. These people still have to buy the iPhones so apple is getting a chunk of change from them so apple is benefitting. Apple is obviously checking out what the jailbreakers et al. are implementing and will likely use it as market research and it will lead to developments with the software. Therefore apple and no jailbreakers benefit.

When people start trying to convince other people to do the other above the other persons actual needs (especially with some half truths and stupid examples) it just becomes a pissing match.

After Jb do not go crazy using themes. They DO slow down the iPhone.
I Jb for all that was mentioned but also for an app that everyone did not mention.

XGPS! Uses google maps and the app TURNS when your car turns on roads.
And by the end of the month they will have VOICE guided directions. The app as is works really good. Still not as complete like tomtom but way better than just regular google maps. Once voice direction comes out it will be great. Btw, I been using XGPS with BACKGROUNDER so when a call comes in the app won't shut down, awsome!

QUICKGOLD is another great app. Press the home button once and start typing WHATEVER you want and it will find it. Finds apps, contacts and more. And if your on the desktop say at the 8th page and you want to go to the 1st page, just tap the home button twice and that's it. It also give you a few recent used apps to launch as well. Nice app!

CYCORDER works very well and does not freeze and it's not slow as some guy here mentioned. I never have problems with it.

To ME, if you use THEMES you will run into problems and slow downs. Dont use it, just use the apps mentioned in this thread and you WILL be fine.

CLIPPPY (something like that) is another very VERY good app. It's a copy and paste app that goes into to your keyboard. Double click a word and slide your finger at what you want to copy. Than click on the 123 button on the bottom left of the keyboard. You will see a top row on top of the numbers which have, COPY PASTE STACK and CLOSE. Very cool app.

I can go on but it's really a matter of looking for the right apps that work and that you will actually use. To jailbreak I suggest you do a complete restore, followed RIGHT AWAY with the JB. Than play around with Cydia apps BEFORE doing anything else. Once you have found what you like and will use, RESTORE AGAIN! than download your picked apps from cydia!

I have use this method on every phone I have owned. Helps to get rid of many left over files....... that do not get removed. Do it this way and see how nice JB really is. Just PLEASE don't use themes, or at least use ones that are light on MB.

I have to agree with you about Clippy... it's pretty cool and works great. However, the only thing I didn't like about Clippy is... you have to be in a text box to use it... you can't just copy text from anywhere there's text (like a webpage). Also, I tried Cycorder once and I had some bad experiences with it and I didn't bother trying it again because video recording just isn't on my list of things I want on the iPhone.... I'm glad video recording is great for you, but I don't need it (and I'm not trying to drink Kool-Aid by saying that)... I never took videos on my other video-enabled phone either.
