What should i choose? i have heard that the 7200 makes the machine pretty loud an makes it shake quit a bit. Also it should drain battery noticabely...

5400 vs. 7200 RPM

I took the 7200 rpm. As said previously, the current faster disks does not seem to drain more power.It is in the new macbook pro. I just dont now wich to order. so the drive would come from apple

I have a 7200RPM drive, and there is only a very slight vibration. Enough that I can tell if the computer is on, but not enough to be annoying or even noticeable during normal use.

My previous MBP was totally silent. Since the HDD is a huge bottle neck just get the 7200. I think 5400 rpm are just too slow.
Larger 5400rpm drives are not that slow anymore.
Back when harddrives were 60GB you could really feel the 5400v7200 difference. Like you could just tell using the machine.
Now, not so much. It does seem better on longer throughput kind of stuff, sustained transfers, but a person could hardly tell in day to day normal use.

lol another noob here. in what case would you notice the difference of having a 5400 v 7200rpm HD? for instance is it when downloading music/files to the HD or just everything in general?
I'm going to be switching back to a mac in a couple of weeks, and had two windows computers and 7200rpm is much faster than 5400rpm, and you dont hear any sounds. I am not too sure if that happens with a mac. I hope not as i am going to choose the 7200rpm option

If you are going to do the HD upgrade to 7200 yourself to save like 400 bucks...

yeah that's a nice one. I am really torn between upgrading to a 7200 and trying for a 250gb SSD.
I pay 400 extra just with taxes and lost rebates If I order through able.
so for 250 more I get a SSD. I was thinking about getting the crucial SSD but am not sure if it makes sense since Mac has no trim support and have heard stories of the drives breaking. may be too soo to upgrade. A crucial is about 650.
I would get the intel but they are small and I use boot camp so I need the space for windows and Mac os.
same situation here. I will wait some till xmas to see if the prices of SSD drop though. The SSD are really to expensive.
