I wonder how many people actually frequently use the MobileMe webmail interface? It seems like I always have either my laptop and use the Mail app, or I have my iPhone and use the Mail app on that for me.com email. It's rare that I'm without my iPhone and need to log in via another computer to check my mail.

I too am puzzled.
Mobile me is only of interest to Mac owners. So, if you own a Mac, why do you need a stupid web mail client?

I am not sure why Apple is investing in this.

MobileMe seems to be the answer to a question that no one is asking.

Webmail is best for when you're not using your own computer (or if you have a PC either at home or work and can't stand Outlook). It's not meant to even be the primary access method for MobileMe Mail, although it's designed to be good enough to allow you to do that if you choose. It's only getting better now.

I'll grant that it's a tough sell from a value proposition, but as an actual service, it's got a lot of good things to offer.

I'm glad they are updating it, but I've been happy with it so far. I like the improvements listed. Now if we could get color labels it would be perfect. I still used the webmail as I don't have an iPhone yet (I'll be buying the update). So it's of value to me. I just wish they would bring back the .mac. :(

I actually use MobileMe webmail access for my e-mail all the time. even when working on my mac laptop. Sometimes I just don't want the mail client open. And I use it all day at work where I have a pc that I must work on. I hope mobileme webmail open all day and night. It does kind of suck right now though so I'm excited for the upgrade. And obviously, if the e-mail was my primary use for it I would just use my gmail account.

Actually MobileMe is compatible with Windows as well... the only people it doesn't work for are Linux users...

As for checking my MobileMe mail in a browser I do that all the time at work. I get an email that I need to reply to that I don't want to type out on my tiny iPhone keyboard I log in and type my paragraphs.

I always though MobileMe would be a waste of $$ but I am coming up on my first renewal. I love the service. I use the syncing all the time, I use the iWeb service for my small photography business website and my website that my family uses to stay in contact with family that's far away.

I know there are free services that do these things, but I don't have time to deal with them all. It's easier just to get the solution that works with the fewest clicks.

Rules, finally, this is brilliant! BUT... I've got like 30 ones in Mail.app, do I need to re-create them in MobileMe Mail?

You're half right. As one of those unlucky many that use Mac at home and PC at work the web interface is my only choice. Well, the iPhone is also a choice, but not for longer emails.

So the reason Apple is investing (hopefully heavily) in this is because they have a sensationally "stupid web mail client." MobileMe's webmail client is by far and away the worst. It's buggy, still drags down all other internet windows/tabs if left open more than an hour or two, and sensationally slow. Sometimes I can literally open three new tabs after MobileMe starts to load and type in "gmail," "mail.yahoo..." and "facebook..." and my mail in those will load before MobileMe does. It is, in a word, pathetic.

So... the reason for the huge overhaul is that it needs it.

I like mobileme but yes the web interface sucks.

But NOTHING beats Outlook Web Access. 2003 was ok, 2007 was good but 2010 is truly professional.

Nevertheless, I'm happy to see Apple polishing MobileMe, and look forward to more refinements, new features, and perhaps a cheaper (free) price as some rumors have hinted.

I do.
Use it to look at personnel mail while at work instead of having it mixed in with work mail on the computer. I also then know with a few extra settings that when i quit the browser it gets cleaned beyond the skills of anyone in the office.

Sure i have my phone with me but that only lets me reply with the login email address which is the one I use least indeed almost never if I can avoid it.

I wish MobileMe would support personal domains like Google does. No way I am going to give up my personal domain name/email for an @me.com address. I would even pay a higher annual fee to Apple if they supported personal domains.

I still can't believe how long it took them to implement something as simple as SSL for their mail service!

Yeah, they really need to add the ability to reply from .me alias on the iPhone. It's an annoying and inexplicable limitation. (and while I'm complaining about iPhone mail, how 'bout different signatures for different accounts?).

Only to verify you IIRC, I was not billed until I continued, or there might of been a $1AUD hold put on.
Correct, it validates not just that you are a real person but from what country your credit card is issued. This validation is also used with iTunes to assign you to your "correct" iTunes store.

I now have the new UI and features.

The button styles, scrollbars .. everything is completely different from both Mac OS X and the rest of MobileMe.

It is fast though.

Quick question to pad07:

Is there a better way in the settings to use multiple pop/imap accounts? Or is it still only 1 account via pop?

Thanks!

That feature has been removed completely at the moment, you can't add any external accounts. Don't know if they intend on adding it back in later, it does state in the FAQ that the feature isn't present in the beta.

I signed up yesterday, around 5am. Nothing yet. Anyone sign up after and get an email from apple?

Nothing here either I signed up yesterday around 11am. I signed up out of curiosity since I never really use webmail. Just my phone and Mail.app
