Was sort of assuming you could do this. If not, I'll only jizz 1/2 way.

That is either really gross or there is a major language differential.

how do you think steve will handle the announcement of video chat? I mean it's "revolutionary" and "pioneering" in the US, because it's the first of its kind. but across the world it's pretty old news....

Oh, come on. You know the drill.

Steve: Lots of manufacturers have had video chat for a long time. But they never implemented it the right way. So I asked our team of engineers to make the best, easiest to use, smoothest to watch, mobile video chat ever. And they did. So I am here to announce mobile video chat DONE RIGHT... iChat iPhone. You are going to love it and our competitors are going to wonder how we did it.

IMO, so many shunned by society over the past two generations migrated to a social life on the Internet since their looks, lifestyle or political views were shunned by their local community. Now the Internet is catching up with the rest of us that have social lives.

Back then, it was only text and the occasional picture to communicate. With sites like Chatroulette and Omegle Video conferencing, we are seeing a divide of the socially acceptable and non-socially acceptable using this quick video connection technology. The video conferencing on the iPhone will just make this divide bigger.

Notice the types of people you see in Apple ads, they are energetic, fun, happy and social. Dweebs hide behind their non-video computers. Have fun you legacy pre-common video Internet types, you need another rock to hide under!

Umm...ok. Now, real slow like, step away from the bong.

the feature set of the 3GS is already quite complete. Aside of improvements like better camera, faster GPS, better screen I can't see any NEW feature other than front facing camera that Apple could include.

If Apple wants to lead the market they have to include NEW functionality because the other phones have similar hardware and the software for the competitors also gets better.

Video chat=additional carriers!

So along with the fact that Apple likes to withhold features to ensure reoccurring purchases I believe(just an opinion here) that a lot of the data-intense features that Apple has dragged its feet on are due to carrier bandwidth restrictions. I really don't feel like ATT is a bad carrier, at least relatively to any other carrier. In fact I feel like any single carrier would have had just as many or more issues with the exclusivity of the bandwidth-hogging iPhone. So my guess is that if Apple is doing the video chat then that means the iPhone will be opening up to at least one other carrier in the U.S.

But I personally don't care at all about video chat. I would rather Apple's primary focus be on battery life. IMO, battery life has always been the weakest feature of any of the iPhones.

The tweets from the actors about auditioning for a new Apple commercial are from just last week. If that's the case, I highly doubt we will see a "now shipping" announcement on June 7th. Most likely it will be the 22nd of June as per the original rumors

Given the high costs and low monthly caps of Canadian carriers, I don't care about the iPhone or any other cellphone for that matter.

Tell me when Apple stops treating the iPod touch as a second-class citizen, always one or two generations late on iPhone features.

Bitter much?

Hmmm...

2 things.

Do you there is ANY chance that at$t will not let the video chat on 3g? (wifi only)

If you can't do the video chat over 3G then the feature will pretty much be pointless. AT&T has been investing a lot of money in their network and also has been stingy about not letting bandwidth hogging apps on the network...perhaps this is all part of the master gameplan (to be able to roll out a new ground-breaking feature like video chat)?

If this is done right it will again differentiate the iPhone in a market place full of "touch phones" (iPhone copycats). Again you'll see the rush for everyone else to try to copy what the iPhone can do...again caught one step behind trying to follow the leader. :)

Who would ever think that ?
Never happen will be by months end.

i have video chat on 3 phone before i got my iphone, i made one video call just for the novelty factor then never used it again. I cant see the iphone having it making any difference to me, id rather they saved the space / weight for something else.

Voice Chat is one those techs that seems so dam good on paper and in your head, but is annoying and a pain in the ass in real-life except for that rare special occasion.

All that poll shows is 47% of the people are lying to themselves. :)

Zzzzzz

Fantastic, I already do this for too much long, on My NOKIA 5800, video phone calls, and Skype video drought Fring. Oh, remember Nokia 5800 is like 1/3 the price of the iPhone, so I just wonder how much Apple is going to charge for this!

I cannot imagine a scenario where, personally, I would need video chat on my phone. I am quite surprised that 47% of people find it 'very appealing'. Sure, some people will find it useful but almost half the people in the poll seems like a larger amount than I think would actually make use of it.

Do you care to elaborate? I means it's easy to sit in the corner and monday morning quarterback, but what are your ideas to move the platform forward?

Maybe it's ho-hum, but I would love a better screen, better battery life, and better video quality. Those three things would satisfy me very much. I don't care as much for new bells and whistles that sound great on a press release, but in reality rarely used -- kinda like Photo Booth, as I do for improvement of the features I do use a lot.

Truly, much of the new "functionality" of iPhones since the 3G has come from 3rd party App developers, not Apple. Apple has concentrated on making a better widget, not a more bloated one. I hope they stay the course.

Video calling was a gimmick back in 2003 when it launched in the UK, nobody used it then after the initial few calls and nobody has really bothered since. Its one of those features that's kinda flopped over the years, no doubt Apple will make it sound all exciting and new.

Great, now in addition to texts and regular calls, I'll also have video calls to ignore. It should show a preview of the person making the video call so you can see them and where they are before you decide to take the call.

I've had my MacBook for about 15 months now, and I've used video chat exactly once, using iChat. It'll be interesting to see if this takes off on the iPhone.

Once again it's really about personal need. I have relatives across the country, and children in college far away. We use video chat almost daily.:apple:

Don't see why it would not. The same as a regular call. Location is not an issue
unless it's outside your country and your plan is domestic only. I agree however, location would be nice for video calls. :apple:

Videocalls? It won't fly on 3G

Like others who have tried it in Europe over 3G, it's too expensive and too laggy and poor quality. Just no point. On the other hand if it will work over wifi and skype, that's a different matter.

Gotta ask... if you ignore so many calls why do you even have a phone in the first place? Or at least why do you give out your phone # to people you plan on ignoring?

Well the $100 trick worked. I was due for an upgrade 11/21 but paid over $100 on my last bill so now I can upgrade 6/21. It looks like it could be a full discounted upgrade.

Can't wait for the 4G:)

You're at Fanboy Central. If Apple announced their phones would start emitting a fecal smell in lieu of ring tones, you'd get a "FINALLY! what we always wanted and needed!" response here.

Agreed. Unless... A new carrier is announced. Maybe someone other than AT&T can do this!
