It is all a mess, If apple and 02 cant meet supply and demand then i guess they need to drop out of the market!
Just like Nintendo should drop out of the video game market. I still cant get a wii anywhere.

Because there is NOTHING wrong with how O2 is running things and it is unlikely any other carrier could do any better.
Apple has to get a finite number of phones to 30 countries for a simultaneous launch.
O2 gets their allocation. Fanbois smell blood in the water and want to order a phone 1 picosecond after the website goes live.
30000 fanbois kill server and use up allocation.
The end.
I'm not surprised their order system crashed with possibly the most anticipated product release since the gameboy!
I managed to order a white 16gb around 2.30pm and I count myself lucky, but I don't understand how so many people are moaning about their customer service - I've been with them over 5 years and they've been great!
Besides, if the British postal service is anything to go by I'm sure most people will get them from O2 stores before mine arrives...
ps I think the functionality is spot on. Who actually regularly uses video messaging? I've taken some pretty decent pics with the camera and if I need anything better I'll use a digital compact or SLR. GPS is a nice bonus too!

Where do you reckon you got a white one from? This would be news to pretty much everyone in this forum.
With the iPhone now sold out in the UK after 4 hours....and the lack of information on PAYG...on reflection what a total mess.
Apple obviously went for the provider for the most amount of $$$ without researching who could do their brand justice, now Apples brand is diminsihing and 02 have lost the plot...
...lets all reflect on the whole iPhone's short lifespan...a phone that does not have proper 3G capabilites (no video calling) no upgraded camera and voice plans that make up for the reduced price...this is where as consumers we should be showing whos boss!!
I filled in the form on the O2 upgrade page, selecting the £45 tariff and opting to pay £59. Filled in my payment details and got a thank you for your order message.
Fingers crossed!

Good luck getting a white one. No one else on here was not given the choice, and as such presume it is only black available, as shown in the pictures on the upgrade pages.
While i was waiting for O2 to fix they're upgrade service I rang their customer services dept who informed me the white version would be available when the site is back up and that I'd have 3 days to order one.
Three days? Well it's plastered all over there site that the thing is sold-out already, and I hold out little hope for O2's website come Thursday morning, unless they sure it up with some serious extra serverpower!
As for the white one, it states on the order page that only the black model is available - given how well O2 have handled it so far, I don't know if any of these sources are reliable!
Assuming O2 can get pre-order confirmations out to people for their friday deliveries, then I'm hoping that will mean fewer people heading out to O2 stores on Friday morning. The pressure of all those people this morning may have been overwhelming to a central set of 'O2 Shop' servers - but those not fortunate enough to get their orders in this morning will be 'spread out' between all of O2 and CPWs retail stores - I'm confident it won't be too much of a nightmare on Friday!
