Thanks so all who have contributed to this thread. I have been scratching my head silly trying to unlock my 3G 3.1.3 06.02.
I got it jailbroken but fuzzyband couldn't unlock it..
Am I right in saying a solution should be days (maybe a week away)?
I will buy the new iPhone but I want to unlock my 3G to have when I'm overseas. Roaming charges with AT&T is too rich for my blood.

Fuzzyband will not unlock an iPhone, and the bootloader has nothing really to do with unlocking. Your baseband is what you need to pay attention to which, in your case, is 5.12.01. You will need to wait until a carrier unlock for 4.0 is released, in the coming weeks.
On a side note, where did all of this misinformation come from?
JB and unlock is already out.
Upgrade to official 4.0 and then JB with redsnow.
Then install ultrasnow thru cydia to unlock.

He's not brilliant, he just knows how to read the new information that is released.
And he does a good job keeping current (which apparently you do not or you could of done this 3 or 4 days ago).
