    Hello mac peeps,

    quick question...

background: '09 quad flashed to 5,1 (is that right?) and upgraded with:
    • 3.46 6 core Xeon
    • 32 Gb Ram
    • SSD Startup drive
    • AMD Radeon R9 280X (System profile says it supports Metal)
before I try to upgrade to Mojave, how best to prepare? Should I disconnect my other hard drives? I have a time machine backup, can I use this to downgrade in case things go badly?

I use my desktop for work and so need to be very cautious with anything that risks downtime...

A current time machine backup is always a good idea when doing upgrades, but I want to warn you that no backup should be depended upon if it hasn't been tested. If you need to be cautious then I would recommend taking a clone of your current boot drive to serve as a second backup.

That said, the upgrade to Mojave has been pretty pain free for the vast majority of people--even the betas were highly stable. I think disconnecting your other drives falls into the category of "not necessary, but certainly can't hurt".

Your specs all look fine for Mojave. Keep in mind that with Mojave you will lose the use of FileVault, no matter what video card you have. If you don't use it now, then no problem.

If you're not already on High Sierra then you will need to upgrade to that first, then to Mojave.
