~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates

Good luck

I can confirm that this DOES work with the iPod Touch. I've just completed it.

Unfortunately, a few old apps (*cough* Mail *cough*) don't work when put on 1.1.3. iSlots works, and I'm in the process of downloading new apps.

Anyone know how to get the jiggly icons working? I can't move them.

If you have the new app upgrade from apple, you should just hold down on a button...

I was pleased to find that all my contacts and other settings were still there even after restoring to factory settings.

You'd probably synched beforehand with iTunes 7.6, which gave us a new feature: it now backs up the information on your touch. This is probably because they can now legitimately have Mail, Calendar, Notes, etc on them so iTunes offers a way to back that data up. Take a look in the "Syncing" tab (the one all the way on the right) of iTunes' Preferences and you'll see that your touch appears as "Backed Up." This is new with iTunes 7.6, AFAIK.
