Was hoping for $1099 but $1149 isn't horrible when we're already talking about this much money. And I think Apple knows that. Anyone else notice the iPhone 8 is $50 more expensive too? Also a $150 gap between the 64GB and 256GB there too, but the old models were 32GB and 128GB, so you do get a lot more storage at least.

Factoring in the NYC sales tax, my final cost for the 256GB version would be $1,250. Of course, I can opt for the 64GB version; however, I have under 9GB of free space left on my 6s Plus (64GB), which is not likely to decrease on my next phone. As much as I want the iPhone X, I'm seriously debating the prudence of spending that much money on a phone. Fortunately, there's still some time to decide.

The 256GB iPhone 8 Plus is priced at $949. On one hand, this makes the $200 mark-up on the iPhone X seem a bit more palatable. On the other hand, these prices are completely outrageous. Welcome to the era of the $1,000 smartphone, everyone!

I have no interest in an IphX, but I am still rather perturbed to see prices exceed $1,000 USD.
I use Android for my phone, and didn't even want to pay $700 to $800 something for Samsung's latest and greatest either. When I bought my LG G4 last year, I was going to consider the LG G5, but not at $650. I didn't even bother to compare if the G5 was worth 3x the price. According to reviews and word of mouth, this looks like a phone that will work out more than adequately... especially at $220.

I'm in Canada and is over $2k with AppleCare and taxes.

It's $1650 if I drive to Michigan and get one there with AC. That's still nuts.

I'm guessing with that price I would need to make the phone last 3 years.

Thats cute. The base model costs more than that here in Germany (yes i know your price is without tax blablabla but your tax is laughable low so that does not even matter)

I don’t miss NY sales tax. I do miss NY though.

That price tag seems like a tough pill to swallow.

Apple introduced 3 brand new phones this year. 3 full featured no compromise phones. The 8, 8 Plus and the X all have the same features in terms on CPU, Storage, Performance and only slight differences in clock frequency, RAM, camera, etc. Under the hood they are all essentially the same.

The X is a premium / luxury item and is priced as such. Can't afford the X? That's why the 8 exists... the x probably wasn't meant for you. You aren't sacrificing anything. You can still run the same apps. You can still use the same services.

The X is for those who don't think about price. Ever look at something and wonder "How much does that cost?" In my experience, if you have to ask the question you probably can't afford it. All watches tell time but some people choose a Rolex over a timex. All cars have 4 wheels and get you from A - B... but some people choose a BMW over a Kia.

And some people with Choose an x over an 8 or some other android device...

Frankly, I don't see how one can afford the $849 iPhone 8 256GB or $949 iPhone 8 Plus 256GB but not the iPhone X. The cost differential between Kia and BMW or Timex and Rolex is much larger. If one can afford an iPhone 8, then they can afford the X. The only question is whether an individual considers the extra features of the X worth the additional cost.

Personally, I use my iPad far more than my iPhone so I'm strongly considering just going for a $150 iPhone SE if I ever need to replace my current iPhone. That's cheaper than AppleCare+.

Sounds like you got a plan. Me, i'll be waiting for the X preorders to start

far more managable on pay monthly contracts. I think 70-80 a month for contracts for the top tier flagships will become normal.

bet the pixel will be close to a grand

Pixel 2! Is that going to be announced soon? I still have yet to see the face of that phone... if it's got more screen than the iPhone X, I will be sad. If it's got a notch, I'll be glad!

Announced later today

If Google can convince me to pick up a Pixel 2, they will have saved me from a lot of waiting. The only way I can see this happening:

1: Google shows off a IR/depth sensing camera.
2: More screen surface area than the iPhone X.
3: Dual OIS in dual cameras.
3: Magical features we don't know about that has yet to been seen.
