So does anyone who has done this before know when we can expect them to actually ship? And do we get a tracking number the second they ship (aka even in china, assuming they're coming from there)?

I'm curious ...for those of you who have had your order changed to preparing to ship, when were your credit cards charged? Trying to see if it's the same or different. My order for a 16gb gold att was confirmed at 306a. My credit card wasn't charged until this afternoon. While most who have moved on to the third step were west coast originally, that's no longer true. Curious to see if a pattern.

Oops, Just screamed a little.

My status changed in the last 30 minutes!

Ordered Via Apple.com;
Unlocked Silver 64GB T-Mobile.
Paid with debit a card.
Order confirmation received at 12:08 (I completed my order a few minutes before).
Charged for both Apple Care+ & Phone.

Eeeeeeek:D

Credit card charged yesterday evening, ordered 3:03 am eastern, and got "preparing to ship" at about 6 pm eastern today.

I live east coast and was charged for both within 15 minutes of placing the order. Payment seems to have been random.

Mine was charged roughly the time I placed the order. Certainly by 4 AM on launch day. But my bank is super fast...like the automated system calls you while still at the register if suspicious. I think people are seeing differences in their bank processing...

Thanks for reopening the thread SandboxGeneral!

I ordered a 16gb silver att phone and its still processing. Scheduled delivery is Sept. 27 to October 1st. There is an authorization charge on my credit card but no actual charge just yet. I also tried searching the carrier websites by reference number like I did when I was waiting on the 4s, back in the day, and no dice.

Maybe it would help if people understood the difference between payment and authorization...an authorization is in effect payment but the processor hasn't settled their account yet. At the point of pre-auth, you've bought it. How long it takes to settle is a function of your bank and the processor.

There is no action on behalf of the merchant to change from an authorization to a settled charge.

Hi guys

This is my first purchase at the Apple Store online and I was wondering in how precise the estimated delivery times are.

It says "Delivers: Sep 30 - Oct 2 by Standard Shipping". Did your previous orders arrive on the estimated delivery time too or did they generally came earlier/later?

Did anyone have a shipping confirmation yet?

In my experience, the time is usually right on or more often, a day or two earlier.

Status just changed to "Preparing for Shipment" within the last half hour.. :D
Ordered at 3:06 am

I assume that its considered pending until its been authorized then right?

I was actually surprised to see my two charges (I did use a debit card) immediately went through, no time in the pending section like most payments have.

The preauthorization is instant. As far as the bank is concerned, the funds are obligated and the bank cannot refuse to pay. (That's the point...they are guaranteeing payment before you walk out the door.) The settling has to do with the transfer of funds between the banks at the federal reserve. Essentially the processor's bank has to get money from your bank's account.

Debit works differently if they process it through the debit network and not as a credit card. Those are considered cash payments just like you went to an ATM. Sometimes they can still show as pending if they are using an oddball processor that is really a subprocessor...but Apple isn't. Most banks belong to an exchange that takes the federal reserve out of the equation so their is no midnight settling.

All of this is random and has zero effect on when you're actually going to get your phone. Everyones is going to be sent out at roughly the same day or two and from that point on, it's 100% up to the mail carriers, and that in and of itself will vary wildly based on where you live. It's fun to get excited but I wouldn't read into any of this stuff at all, people do it every year and it ends up meaning nothing :apple:

You're saying if they say preparing to ship vs shipped vs processing it doesn't matter?

I have to believe that if you're suddenly unable to cancel, it's because your phone has been allocated to you and is somewhere in the boxing/loading/transport process. Whether it has an actual impact on the date of receipt, okay, maybe not. But I don't think Preparing to Ship is assigned randomly.
