I just bought another firewire enclosure since my old one got lost somewhere when I moved. I had many partitions on that with all my OSX install software and backups. So I plan to do that again. It's easier and more convient to boot/install from Firewire than from the discs.
So I just installed my stock 80GB from my 15" PB G4. Ran the HDD benchmark again on the FW 80GB HDD to show a comparison with the internal SSD. It's amazing how snappy this drive is installed in this old G4 compared to the stock spinning mechanical drive. It's as quiet as using an iPad.
Hi Orange,
My G4 original ATA HD just fried last week, and I am debating what should i get. I saw normal ATA 80GB HD goes around $30, but it is slow as hell. I am just wondering how much does it cost you total to do this mod? and part do I need to get? Is there a lot of space there if i choose SSD and it will loose the connection (i keep in my backpack and ride bike a lot, I am afraid it is not secure)?
