With apple's statistics of 1 in 1,000,000 being able to unlock your phone using face ID, that means roughly 7,442 people around the world can unlock your new iPhone X. Guess that means we all need to start watching out for dopplegangers.

i wonder how well it works with twins. they mentioned them, but they were not very clear about it. ;)

Apple - TouchID = 1 in 50,000 fingerprints
Apple - FaceID = 1 in 1,000,000 faces

Seems to me that it would be much more challenging to replicate (much less find) someones fingerprint than face.

But I guess with thermal-indicators, FaceID *should* be pretty secure.

So does 1 in 50,000 impress you better? The point was and is that face ID is 20 times better than Touch ID at preventing erroneous unlock by random person.

All well and good...but what's still to be evaluated is whether FaceID (in the absence of TouchID)...won't bring its own share of unique concerns.

Of course it will. Name me a product with 100% perfect execution 100% of the time.

Oh my god, my phone didn't open right away, poor me, how will I survive.

Give me a break.....jeez.

Wait till EMP pulse hits and you holding a shiny piece of inert glass and metal in your hand. Will make a great door stop. Now you can complain.

Why? Are you identical twin? Or you just like looking for hairs in your jello.

Probably won't work well with identical twins. The word "identical" sort of gives it away. Why they said they hope you trust your identical twin. Course you could still always use a passcode.....dah.

It doesn't seem likely that 20x more people share my fingerprint than my face. Just sounds odd.
No one claimed they share your fingerprint. They share enough data points between fingerprints that they can unlock your phone. Hate to break it to you, but Touch ID does not look at every swirl and loop and match them like FBI does.

Face ID uses more data points, 30,000 dots I believe was stated. Which means that there still is a chance sufficient number of data points match and would unlock phone. About one in a million.

Obviously not all 30,000 data points need to match, as allowances need to be made for glasses, facial hair, hats, scarfs, etc as was also pointed out.

Lies and mumbo jumbo by Apple. Unless they went ahead and tested 1 mil people I don't believe it, I don't believe the Touch ID STATS neither.

You can always get a flip phone for $50.

That might be the best new thing since these phones are getting boring. Samsung is getting ready for the next gen flip phone.

Lucky for them, life will go on even with your disbelief. I am sure they didn't ask one million people to test FaceID, but they can extrapolate, based on the underlying tech, how similar two people can be to set it off.

Also why would anyone want a flip phone? The thickness is the annoying part in your pocket, not the height. I would prefer a taller slab that is thin, then a shorter one that is flipped closed and thicker.

Nah, Samsung will wait till Apple bring back flip phone. Then they will be all over it making copy.

My razor was real thin. Still remember the good old days. Star Treky flip phones. And minutes charged for calls. Those were the days my friend.

I could have sworn they said they did test over over million people. I'd watch it again, but don't have two more hours to waste.

And you could download games on to Razor from their game/App Store. No screen protector or phone case required.
Those were the days.

Yes, it was, but what was the battery capacity? Did it have a multitouch display? :p
Battery capacity? As I recall, as many spare batteries as I could jam in my pockets. Then I got the super hemongo size battery. Course razor wasn't thin anymore. More like Quasimodo with huge hump.

Yes I was able to touch the display multiple times. Course had to wipe fingerprints off with a cloth.

You also have a 1 in 1 million chance of guessing a 6 digit passcode on your first try.
You convinced me, gonna change to seven digits.

Even Twins can have minor facial discrepancies that may not be distinguishable to the eye, but Those tests will certainly be interesting once the iPhone X is launched.

i'm just a bit surprised, because i fully expected them to show a demo with twins. and when he talked about the evil twin i was like "oh here we go!"

i remember a video from microsoft, where they showed that windows hello can even tell twins apart
