yeah. i'm beginning to regret joining here. basically yer snobs. i'll try watch what i post but really this is just plain rude. you can't possibly be worried about bandwidth. you just like to bully and be impolite. i think most of you have been glued to a monitor too long...

Trust me, they aren't. ...They're expecting my name. :p

I don't know what is worse ....

Seeing a +1 post

-OR-

Watching User A go off on a tangent in a post, User B picking up on the tangent, then User A coming back with " Please stay on topic ".

I usually see people using +1 to say they are in agreement with an answer to a post, as if to say ...

" I would have given the same answer as the previous poster, but since it was already given I want you to know that I would have said the same thing ".

Then there are what we call " Post Count Whor_s " ( on other forums ) who will post ANYTHING just to increase their Post Count as if a high post count meant something.

"Stay on topic" annoys me. It's the natural flow of progression in a conversation (which is essentially what a thread is) to drift from one subject to another related one. Kind of like we're doing here :)

Personally, I don't mind "+1" posts, except when people quote the original (often long) article, only to add the "+1".

On another forum, we used to be plagued with posters doing this, only to add "I agree" to the end. In the end, we decided if we couldn't beat them (I wish :p), we'd join them.

So the convention is if we agreed with the post we'd post "AOL".
a) because most of those "agreers" were AOL subscribers new to the internet.
b) 'cos it stands for "Agreeing Out Loud".

;)

I agree ... sometimes a conversation takes a turn.

What burns me is when a specific user starts the turn, realizes they made a mistake, and tell other users to "get back on topic" :D :D :D

I've noticed a sharp increase in the usage of "+1" on Page 1 news threads in the past two days.

MacRumors is becoming popular enough that its getting quite a bit of cross forum pollination from sites that have versions of vBulletin with "reputation points" activated or ranking systems. I don't think there is any malintent, its just they're used to a different forum culture. For example, its perfectly acceptable to urinate behind the nearest tree when camping in the national forest, however, when you're in someone else's living room you probably should find the bathroom instead of watering the orchid on the coffee table. (learned that one the hard way)

Personally I've not seen this happening much around here, but I haven't been following the Mac news when I'm tooling around here.

Does this rule re smilies as a response also apply to demi-Gods?
Hi all

Just a quick reminder that posting:

+1

falls under the general forum rules of one-word posts, and they are deleted upon sight or if reported, much as saying 'me too' or 'I agree'.

Quote : Useless posts. Do not bother making posts with only one or two words (e.g., LOL) or a smilie, or post simply to have the first reply in a thread. Such posts waste everyone's time and will be deleted. Posts saying "I agree", "me too", or the equivalent are also routinely removed.

Thanks! :)

p.s. The first person to post '+1' or 'me too' etc. in reply to this post will be struck off my Xmas shopping list. ;)

I see you edited your post a few times.

Firstly as you probably realised, hence editing your post,

demi god ≠ moderators

To answer you question yes it does apply to demi gods, and further to that it also applies to moderators.

Yes, I did edit my post as I realised my mistake and wanted to have my facts straight :)
