I bought my Lifeproof case for protection, and skipped the insurance. Instead I started my own iphone insurance fund, just in case I need it, I already have $200 in the fund. If nothing happens to the phone the fund is used to purchase my next iphone.

Protection is the very most important factor, imo, which is why I've chosen the Otterbox Defender. I have two children who love to play games on my phone and I am a busy lady, so my phone will get dropped... I hate it, bc the iPhone is such a beautiful phone and deserves to be shown off - but if I'm going to spend so much money on something, I am going to protect it.

None of the above. I have an iPhone 4 and stubbornly insist on holding it wrong. :D It drops signal too much for me to use without a slim case, so I mostly use a PowerSupport Air Jacket. Otherwise, I'd go totally caseless--it's a nuisance to have to either remove the case or custom fit one to use with my Olloclip lenses (I've Dremeled out the corner of an Acase Superleggera for that, the non-pro version).

Protection, eh, whatever. Neither of those cases offers much drop protection, if any. I put SquareTrade on it the day I bought it, and I can't tell you how many times I've dropped it already without damage. Most of the truly protective cases are overly thick and ugly, plus again, they don't work with the Olloclip, my speaker docks, some stands, or plenty of other third party accessories. To me, I'd rather shell out for the accidental damage coverage and not use it than deal with the daily nuisance of an oversized case that doesn't play well with other stuff.

Battery $ Protection

I need the battery of the Mohpie Juice Pack Plus merged with the protection of the Otterbox Defender. Currently running the Mophie and looking for a skin to cover that to add a little extra armour and pocket "stickyness".

I'm physically tough on phones and use all the power-eating features of the 4S

This is one of the few instances where I have to places looks above functionality. Functionality in terms of protection that is.

This is because I paid $200 for a beautiful phone. I have very little desire to cover up this $200 beauty with a bulky and very aesthetically unpleasing $30 Otter box.

I might get a bulky protective case for snowboarding though.
