Why I bought the watch: I love Apple. I love gadgets. New Apple gadget? Take my money. I will admit after 2 weeks the shine had worn off and I was considering returning it.

Why I'm keeping it even though it can't be denied there are bugs to be worked out: April 1st I had heart surgery to remove a left atrial myxoma. My recovery was going great, I had had no complications. Last week I walked into the garage and I passed out. I used my watch to call 911 because I had left my phone in the bedroom (at the advice of a nurse I had already added 911 to my favorites list before I left the hospital). Using the Health app I was able to give emergency personal a list of my meds, doctors, allergies and emergency contact. Once at the hospital my doctors looked at my activity, heart rate and I was keeping track of my blood pressure and putting it the health app, they figured out a small change in my blood pressure meds was most likely the cause for passing out. All along the way the doctors were impressed and grateful to get the information from the watch and Health app. IMO, the watch has paid for itself and I'll be keeping it.

Truly an amazing story. Apple should pay you to publish a story in the news.

It brings me joy when I use it, even to just look at the time. I lift my wrist to see it and PRESTO, I can magically tell what time it is from any one of many beautifully designed watch faces.

It also pleases me greatly when it taps my wrist lightly to remind me to stand or move...and when someone's just messaged me. :) It's kind of like the assistant Siri could be if she could tap your wrist and remind you of things you wanted to be reminded of.
Siri IS already the assistant you need that taps you on the wrist and reminds you of things you wanted to be reminded of. I'm the most forgetful people I know so Siri reminds when to take my medication, of appointments and when I schedule meetings, reminders come in the form of notifications on my watch. I even ask Siri to remind me to close the windows so I don't forget I opened them .

Siri is becoming more developed with the addition of the AW.

This is simple for me. I'm a Type 1 Diabetic and I can see my Blood Sugar by simply glancing at my watch. The Apple Watch integration with my Dexcom Continuous Glucose Monitor has been nothing short of amazing for me and it's only going to get better. Here are some real world examples of how I use this functionality:

-While coaching my son's baseball team I leave my iPhone and CGM Receiver in my backpack in the dugout rather than having to carry both. A quick glance let's me know where my blood sugar is at and if I have to take any action.

-While hanging out with kids in pool a quick glance is all I need instead of having to get out, dry my hands and check my CGM.

-While on a jog, my iPhone and Receiver remain tucked away. Once, while jogging I dropped a CGM receiver while trying to look at it and it broke. No worries about that anymore.

-While driving I no longer have to fumble around to grab my receiver. Just glancing at my watch let's me know if I need to take action.

-I no longer have to carry my iphone and receiver with my everywhere I go in the house. They stay in the kitchen and I can see my numbers no matter where I am.

This may sound like convenience to many, but when living with a 24/7 disease like Type 1 Diabetes, consuming information in a quick and convenient way is a major piece of the puzzle.

Yes, the paramedic went to my room and got my phone. I pinged it from the watch and he had no problem finding it.

Pinging the phone from the watch is indeed quite convenient. I can't hear the ping myself because I'm hard of hearing, but I ping it and my partner finds it for me. :p

I recently read an interview at recode (http://recode.net/2015/06/18/the-watcher-of-the-apple-watch-jeff-williams-at-code-2015-video/). Scroll down to the Q&A section, and an audience member talks about how the watch helped a family member when they had a heart episode. I think Apple watch is going to make a huge impact in the health field going forward.

For me it's the effect it's had on my fitness. I've always naively assumed that because I'm young and slim, I'm also fit. Apple Watch made me aware of the fact that I actually had a very high resting heart rate. Since getting it on 24/04 I've upped the amount of cardio vascular work I do each week (and actually enjoy it for the first time ever!!).. The benefits on my RHR have been huge plus I'm sleeping a lot better! I'm looking forward to Apple developing the fitness features further... I'd love to see a 'Strava-like' community feature that allows you to share activity info to people in your area and your friends.

Hey Siri set a timer for ... Hey Siri get directions to ... Hey Siri message so and so with ... She isn't perfect but it is pretty damn convenient. Can't wait for hey Siri pop the trunk, hey Siri unlock the door for groceries or hey Siri watch tv hey Siri turn off the lights.

Completely agree... For me, the convenience of having Siri on your wrist and so quickly accessible makes it much more useful than on my iPhone. Setting reminders is a feature I use all the time.

I need to revise my answer... Originally I said it was the looks. But upon more reflection, I bought the watch because of the Apple brand.

There are many other smart watches out there. And, many are far more capable than the AW in their specialty areas. And a few are more capable overall. However, they all look like the calculator watches of the 80s to me. I wanted a smart watch, but it took the Apple brand to get beyond the 80s calculator watch stigma. The brand is what elevates the AW's business and social acceptability status.

It's also the design isn't it?
The use of SS and gold, even if you didn't buy those models, elevated the watch's appeal in the minds of consumers (probably).
I mean if Apple had released a smart watch that looked like a Moto360 (hockey puck) or Urbane (trying too hard to look urbane) or Samsung Galaxy (way too big), I would never consider buying one.

My original answer was looks. But then I realized that looks was not the #1 reason. The Apple brand legitimizes a smart watch as an acceptable alternative to a traditional watch.

I missed calls and messages on my iPhone regularly. I don't feel the vibrations and I don't like having a loud ringtone or alert tones. So what I did was check my phone constantly.
Since I got the Apple Watch I feel so much better without constantly pulling my phone to check for notifications. Also pulling the phone 20 times a day to check for the time.
So for me this is the ONE-FEATURE. I don't have to check my phone 40+ times a day. It's hard to describe, but it's really great!
