6s plus to 8 plus. LOVE it. Feels solid, I actually like the heft to it. No issues whatsoever. That being said, whenever Apple makes a notch-less OLED iPhone I will buy it. Cannot stand that notch lol.

That's why I'm holding out for the Galaxy S9. It's either that or the 8+ for my next upgrade, but I want an OLED screen WITHOUT a notch. LCD just don't cut it anymore after seeing the S8's screen.

We? We are waiting for the iPhone X, why would anyone be excited for the iPhone 7S? Which is basically what the iPhone 8 is.

the iPhone X is the new experience we've been waiting for, all screen and OLED screen at that. the iPhone 7S same ole LCD screen... same ole bezel-full design

Speak for yourself, the more I see the iPhone X the more I hate it and am thankful that Apple released a phone with current hardware with the "old" design.

Not to mention, at the end of the day, the iPhone X might as well be a 4.7" phone.

Apple gave us all a choice. If we prefer the look, feel, overall design, but upgraded feel with the rear glass, and staying with Touch ID with all the innards of the latest and greatest, we upgrade to the iPhone 8.

If we want something really new feeling and looking from Apple, and want larger screen, smaller device, and some new features like gestures and FaceID we upgrade to the X.

From the inside. They are the same device with different looks and functions on the outside.

I upgraded from the 7 to 8 Plus and have been overall happy with the experience. I really like the large screen, particularly for spreadsheets, easier not to have to pull out the laptop or iPad because the screen is too small. I love the increased feel with the rear glass. I haven’t tried wireless charging but I’m looking forward to it.

The performance is not mind blowing compared to the 7, but I do notice a little zip. I really like the camera on the 8. This does take incredible photos compared to the 7.

The biggest thing I am REALLY appreciating is the battery life increase. All day easily.

Switched over from S7.

LOVE the 8+,

Bigger screen is amazing
Wireless charging is convenient.
It’s SO fast, no lag and Touch ID is perfection.
The camera is beautiful, although portrait mode has its faults.
Speakers are crazy loud, they’re great and the glass back is so grippy!
Battery life is the main winner here, it’s incredible. I’m impressed.

Overall v happy with it!
I own an S7, too. From one flat OLED display owner to another, do you miss having OLED. And do you think it’s a big deal the IPhone X is getting an OLED display?

Honestly, it doesn't make a difference to me. If I compare the phones, then it's noticeable of course, but just by looking at my iPhone, I can't tell if it's better or worse than an OLED display - it's just a screen.

I'm probably not the best person to ask because this stuff really doesn't make any difference to me, the screens on iPhones are beautiful, as are the Samsung ones and ones on any other high end phones. That being said, I definitely think it's time for Apple to upgrade to an OLED display, just because it IS better but it wouldn't make me go out and buy the X just because of that. I think the OLED display is really overhyped on this website (in particular). It's not as big a deal as it's being made out to be but it is an improvement and if it makes some people go out and buy the X then Apple can laugh all the way to the bank!

I went from an expanding 6 Plus (battery had broken both the frame and the front screen expanding) to the 8 Plus.

I was considering the iPhone X but the phone had almost become unusable and I didn't want to feed the battery any longer.

It is better than the iPhone 6 plus with a sharper display and it is faster. I haven't done anything with the camera yet.

I"m happy with it but to be honest, at this point with phones, it's like buying an expensive toaster. Until something groundbreaking comes along, buying an iPhone 8 or X is nice but not exciting.

Mostly looking forward to the jailbreak being released. First time I’ve ever used stock iOS and Jesus it’s terrible. Can’t even put folders in folders or get rid of app names.

You might have a long wait...we'll see.

I do have app names blanked out on the home row, but that wouldn't be my most treasured tweak. :)

Actually you are the perfect person to ask because not a lot of people here on this part of the forum (excluding the Alternatives to IOS part of the forum) have had experience with the kind of flat high quality OLED display that should be similar to what we will see on the iPhone X.

I had come to similar conclusions and thoughts as you on the matter. It was interesting to see that we did end up feeling so similarly.

The experience that some people have with the OLED Edge displays wont necessarily translate as well to guessing at what the iPhone X display may end up looking like. Those Edge displays have interesting distortion and color shifts and slight graininess at the very edges that I don’t see on the S7 and don’t expect to see on the iPhone X. That’s why I was so interested in your opinion because I don’t run across that many people who have owned an S7 and now also have experience with the latest LCD panels from Apple.

Ack, sorry I’m not explaining very well. It’s been a long day with hyper kids and a super hyper dog!

Yeah I know. That’s why I upgraded. I usually refuse to buy the new iPhone until there is a JB released.

It’s the little things that bug me. The home screen looking extremely cluttered thanks to app names and the dock background.

No folders in folders. Not having what I want in control centre.

It’s the little things that make the experience as a whole better.

I guess I didn't realise what sort of opinion you were looking for! Glad I could help though! I have no doubt that the iPhone X will have a beautiful display, but in my opinion it's hardly groundbreaking 'ermgadddd i gotta have it' stuff. Of course if you're into tech and care about things like that then it's great but for the general consumer, they'll just say yep it has a nice screen and then go on with their day.

Basically both displays are beautiful, and 100% you can tell the difference between them but eh, how many people are really gonna be comparing and caring too much about it?

I compared the screens for about 30seconds and then put my S7 down, never picked it up again and eventually sold it haha!

The new CC is not to your liking? I sorta think it is an advance...even if only a little.

I will never understand why Apple has said No to having 5 across per row.

Upgraded to the 8 after using 6+ for 3 yrs. Using it for a week now and it is amazing. Super fast, beautiful screen. Battery life is really good. Really happy with the 8 right now.

Oh I guess you’ve missed some of the drooling over OLED on this forum and lamenting over the fact IPhones have thus far not had any.

I decided to try Samsung and HTC for the first time last year. It was the first time I found myself in a position to afford to check out the competition after being curious for years. To my surprise, I found out OLED displays were subject to just as many defects and quality variance and oddities as we have long complained about for LCD displays for iPhones. I was surprised because there had been so much talk about how going to OLED would end the display woes that plagued so many iPhones buyers on massive threads about yellow displays or displays with weird shadows. It really ended nothing like that.

I started to get a bit worried that people who kept talking like going to OLED was going to solve all our display complaints were going to be disappointed and furious beyond reckoning when they find out first hand that OLED displays will not end the “display lottery” we go through every year with some people getting and returning oddly tinted or weird looking defective displays.

Instead of cat pee yellow LCD displays people may end up with unicorn sparkly pink stains like I did on my S8+. They might end up with a display that looks dim and hazy compared to their friend’s display. That happened to my husband and I when we got matching Note 7’s. My Note 7 was much brighter and clearer. His looked a bit swampy.

What people can look forward to with OLED is some battery conservation on dark modes. And there’s a lovely contrast ratio many will enjoy. There are of course advantages in VR if Apple ever takes up the VR challenge. But it’s not going to be the panacea some people expect. Like you said, it’s just another type of lovely display.

I went from a 6 plus to 8 and I am still happy I did. Much easier to use with one hand. The speed and battery is AMAZING! Picture and Video are awesome. Even the music quality output has improved. For sure this phone will be with me for another 3-4 years.

It sounds like the leap from 6 and 6s to the 8/8 Plus has been a success for many. I’m happy to hear it. Congrats and best wishes for a good run with your new iPhones!

Upgraded from a 6 to the 8 Plus and am trilled. I had downloaded iOS11 when it came out and it slowed my 6 down. It was improving, but was still slow. For me, the 8 Plus is a big improvement. Fits my hand better, call quality improved, doubled storage, and overall a much better feel in my hand. I usually stay a model behind to save, but Sprint had a deal for the 8 that was actually cheaper than staying on my old plan with the phones I already had.

Feels similar to my experience, Rogers gave me a better plan for the same price, plus gave me a $235 bill credit which paid for a huge chunk of the upfront phone cost. Very pleased with what I got at the end of it all

Purchased a space gray 256 iPhone 8 plus....really liking the phone! Just found a small spec of dust under the camera lens today though!

I picked up my 8 on Monday. Came from a 6s. My 6S was great on iOS 11, it went though the whole beta process. The 6s actually ran buttery smooth and had great battery life. I wanted to upgrade for camera and wireless charging. The X, I will wait for, don't want a first gen phone. I am also hoping Apple will do the X look on a smaller 4.8" size phone screen next year. The new Touch ID button is different but would not call it bad, just getting used to it. But it is fast! The phone especially in system functions is much faster. Siri seems super quick comparably and better accuracy. Call quality seems clearer and louder, as well as the better speakers. Battery life is stellar, better than the 6s. But never had any beef with the 6s it always got me though my everyday needs. The screen even though it has not gained resolution, is clearer, brighter and has the true tone like my newer 12.9 iPad Pro. This phone is the last of a generation of great phones and it is the best version by far. It is a workhorse than has been refined and made better. I don't know why others are hating on it so much. If you have a 7 it would not be as much as a upgrade. I predict this phone will be like the iPad 4 was, the best of it's form factor with a longer life and less issues.

I don’t think it’s bad at all. I’m just used to being able to decide which toggles are there and which aren’t. There’s things taking up space that I’ll never use and that space could be used by something that would give me better functionality.

I kind of like the clean minimal look so no app names. No dock background.

I can’t believe we’re on iOS 11 and there is still no option to put the date in the status bar.

As I said, little things.

Updated from the 7 not much changed has True Tone I kept it on for now. Speakers not much louder than 7 definitely not as loud as the IPad pro’s 4 speakers. Some extra memory too now 64gb.

Don’t notice glass back as it’s in a case.

Over all a few updates but it was not worth forking out £300 more for an X phone which won’t even get a years cycle and might not be the finished product with Touch ID rumoured to come back.

I will maybe buy the X next year or wait and see if Apple bring another LCD phone out.
