Hate her or not, Kim K. isn't dumb. She made $40 million simply on her recent app alone. Buying a gold watch for $15K is like buying an extra value meal for you, I'd imagine.

How about Justin Bieber.

And it's not going to be just $10,000 though, is it?

No-one will spend that on a gold watch, and leave a rubber sports strap on it, surely??!

They're going to want that matching rose leather strap with the rose gold buckle....

Just an extra $7000.

(Or if you're in the UK, £5500 = $8300 at today's rate.)

EIGHT THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS....... for a strap!!!!!!

Welcome to the world of fine jewelry.

Anyway, there is 20% VAT in your $8,300 strap, so it's actually cheaper than in the U.S. :D

Maybe it worked for some people back in seventies or eighties when they introduced the xx.99 pricing. Now it just looks stupid. How typical is it to hear someone say "that item costs nine dollars and ninety-nine cents" rather than "that item costs ten dollars/bucks".

I'm not telling you its correct, or that its been proven, I'm just saying that we talked about it in my marketing class today.

Apple is about the only company that can tell you what you want to buy, so the market for this is guaranteed. It won't be as big as the iPhone, but I doubt that's their target.

The price difference is for Rose Gold vs Yellow Gold. The strap is included free. If you look at the site, the price differs via two factors : 38mm vs 42mm and yellow vs rose gold.

The only people that will spend $10,000 on a Watch edition have more money than sense. Apple could charge whatever price they wanted for a high-end watch.

I could justify $10,000 for a Rolex far more easily than I can for a Watch that will be obsolete in a year.

Ok. So let's say for argument's sake, there is $4000 worth of gold in that band. They are charging $3000 more??? I'm sorry, this is just nuts to be honest. Anyone who will pay these prices for a tech gadget is a fool. This is not an heirloom. It is not something that will be relevant in 3 years much less 30 or 40 like the other $10000+ watches out there.

its being sold as a limited edition and marketed to the "elite" who don't have the same views as you. People who will buy the gold watch will do so simply because they can.

They do? I was under the impression that people buying watches in this range had several of them, and bought both for looks and timelessness. The :apple:Watch doesn't fit those criteria, especially when considering it is clearly meant to be your only watch. It is not designed to be in a rotation with other watches. It is obvious that the Edition is a "because we can" thing. I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't made down the line (Gen 3 or 4) due to sales not justifying its existence. It is the Ford GT. Halo product that is not a permanent fixture.

Actually I'm surprised, $10,000 is not bad at all. Of course its aimed at a certain crowd.

Err, nope. You're wrong.

38mm rose gold case + sport band = $10,000
38mm rose gold case + rose grey/gold buckle = $17,000

the yellow gold equivalents are same prices:
38mm yellow gold + sport band = $10,000
38mm yellow gold + red/gold buckle strap = $17,000

I'm really honestly baffled at why people care. It's not like Apple has made an Apple Watch only accessible to those that can't spend 10k+. Like, this doesn't pertain to you at all so why does it matter? Really though, why?

It's like me not understanding why I have on a $20 bracelet versus the person with a 20k diamond incrusted bracelet. They serve the same purpose... fashion... one is just on a whole other level and that's fine.

I'm not mad someone has a Porsche while I'm driving my Jeep. I'm very happy with my Jeep and more power to the person who can afford fancy cars.
