mini updates

These are just mini updates for basic functionality. There's no way Steve's going to allow any "wow" to escape before MWNY. He wants to hit the stage there like Moses coming down from the mountain with a list of everything Apple has listened to and improved upon.

10.2 is going to be big. Apple knows it has to be.

The preview at WWDC should be loaded with 'wow'. And I agree that we're only going to see support and bug fixes till then.

What OSX needs is support for PC ports so peecee users can upgrade without throwing away their peripherals and devices. Maybe a PCI card with parallel, ps2 and serial port on it. Under $100 andsome sort of provision for an extension that sends the proper commands to the port based on what DOS/Win might do.

How about USB to Serial/Parallel/PS2 ?
A Keyspan USB->RS232 9-PIN is available (this is what I used for my Palm IIIx cradle) - there's even a high speed model. PDA version is $39, high speed is $59.

There's a few PS2 to USB adapters for about $50 (www.kinesis-ergo.com is one of them) However - most mice/keyboards now are available in USB for less than the adapter.

There's a ton of USB to parallel printer adapters for as little as $20 now-a-days too.

There's also USB to ADB adapters FWIW -- I'll be looking into one of those when I upgrade from my Blue & White to an ADB-less machine so I can keep my Apple Extended Keyboard II (I really wish they still made those!)

I'll take an update-let a day if they want to fix things that quick :)

Just so long as there is a roll-up every now and then...

With the PC's move to Legacy-Free, I doubt this is garnering much attention about now :)

Am I the only one that doubts the authenticity of this update?

This is an Apple-like description:
"Increased Stability of Mail and Sherlock"

This is NOT:
"Emails are properly retained when rebuilding the Draft mailbox"

It's too specific. I doubt this is the frozen 10.1.5, just a version still in development, because a final ReadMe would not sound like that. At least not from the Apple I know... remember, these are the guys that we had to heckle just to find out what was new!

I wasn't under the impression that Apple had anything to do with writing the descriptionat all - after all it isn't officially released yet, so there wouldn't be a final ReadMe. I thought it was a report from someone with a seed of the next update. Even if the description was Apple's, the extra detail makes more sense for a beta seeded to developers.

The bit that makes it less likely to be real, in my eyes, is the 10.1.5 description popping up -so- soon after the 10.1.4 release, before the general public even started back with bug reports.

i too encourage people to use apple feedback, but having used it extensively since the dp days of osx and have found that lately apple doesnt care what you have to say.

this is why i started my list i felt apple wasnt listening to me or others so i attempted to provide a forum for people to collect and present a united front and a cohesive image of what osx should be. the list has been circulated through apple cupertino through a couple unofficical channels but has still gotten little (if any) attention, but ive got peopel working on finding better apple contacts. i just find it a shame that apple has chosen to ignore its customers lately. i try lots of shareware, freeware, and payware out and if a developer is not responsive i quickly trash the app, cant do that with apple, so all i can do is try to get em to listen somehow.

anyone who's downloaded it: does it work or is it a fruad? is it even worth downloading this "pre-release" ?

10.1.5 is very real at the moment.

Really don't have a clue why but just wait and see.

yes, real

I thought it would be clear that I meant 10.1.5 is very real inside Apple at the moment, not on Software Update.

10.1.5 is very real.... 5S37... It appears to be far from release, as there are a few bugs that are still in it. For example, the energy saver control panel quits unexpectedly whenever you try to access it... also, the screen seems to 'tint' rather than sleeping... very strange.

i am NOT implying that it is available from software update... it is an internal build. if you don't know where to get it from, then you probably shouldn't touch it ...

The NT networking problem (AFP crashing) appears to be fixed in 10.1.5

YIPEEEEEE!!!!!

Now I can start to move to OSX. Only my home computer could be OSX my work computers have been waiting a year for this!!!!!!!

Pathetically long time to fix it!

But at least it is fixed.

Well, I am just waiting....

I am still waiting for an answer from Apple as to whether they are going to align their schedules up with the evil giant *cough Microsoft cough*, which I hope not. I am also just waiting for something that makes my computer a little faster, or maybe that would require giving more money to them *G4 POWERBOOK*. All I want is a nice computer that has a good Operating System, so I don't have to hurt my head any more, like I do at the school. I wish I could only have one of those dual systems running the Quartz Extreme, with 10.2, hopefully, until then, I am just Glad I am running a mac.

10.1.5 at work

I'm a network administrator at a 60-person company w/ a few Macs. I would loooove to upgrade all the OS 9.2.2 Macs to OS X, but we have an NT file server! I have been waiting for the OS X connection to an NT SFM share to work for over a year. It makes me sad to be teased this way with 10.1.5 being so close. :(

Build 5S45

I have been using 10.1.5 build 5S45 for more than a week without any issues. However, build 5S55 is the latest release. I haven't noticed any differences from 10.1.4 so I presume that all of the upgrades are to components that I just don't use.

TiPB G4 800

That's odd...I could swear that the build number on the iBooks I looked at yesterday at the local Apple Store were 5S55...

[edit: yes it is...I need to read more carefully... ]
